Amir Khan : the rundown

I just wanted to give my brief conclusion of Khan as a fighter in light of his loss today. For me Khan is in the top 5 % of boxers worldwide when it comes to pure atleticism, up there with the likes of Pacquaio, mayweather, Berto, etc. Im talking in terms of sheer speed, the problem is however for me is that he has no boxing IQ! A lot of the time he'll just throw a high volume of punches but without any real thought. He's got away with it for most of his career because the guys he fighting either havent been counter punchers or even if they have, they havent had the power to make an impact when they have landed. Danny Garcia was the contrary to that, he was pretty slow overall but he timed Khan coming in inbetween the punches in bunches that Khan throws. Anyway, thats just my take on it. Be interesting to see what Khan does now.

I'd agree that he doesn't have a great boxing IQ. Makes some basic mistakes.
Obviously Roach can only prepare him for each fight and its up to Khan to execute the game plan but I haven't heard any response from Roach about the loss. Anyone else heard anything?
Id expect him to hear him say that Khan didn't stick to the plan.

The sparring footage showed Khan pushing a lot (like he did v peterson and last night)
It showed him standing trading (like he did v maidana, peterson and to some extent last night)
It showed him getting caught with flush shots (again like his recent fights)
Surely this should be sorted before fight night?

I was giving them the benefit of the doubt that they had released this kind of footage deliberately to let Garcia think it was the kind of fight he was gonna get and then change the plan. Usually the cameras don't get as much footage of the training camp but Khan took all the mistakes we seen in the build up into the ring with him!!

Well the thing for me that separates the great fighters from the also rans in guys like Floyd Mayweather jnr are very quick like Khan is but you very rarely see Mayweather throwing a high volume of punches, when he throws a shot theres an opening of some kind to capatalise on whereas Khan seems to throw quite often just for the sake of it! Manny Pacquaio is very similar to Khan in that sense but the difference is that Manny has a very good chin and he's also a hard puncher so he gets away with fighting like that to a large degree! Khan doesnt possess the chin or power Manny does to fight like that. Even when he was already put on his arse last night he was goading Garcia and telling him come at me so to speak and thats what happened!

I mentioned on another thread about khan waving him in.
He seems like the most important thing on his mind is to prove to the public how tough he is.
Aint his strong point and never will be.

I believe that he will be a world champion once again but i also believe we will see him on the wrong side of more stoppage losses.

Your assesment of Khan is pretty much spot on.

I'd have thought that working with Freddie Roach & sparring with Pac would have helped him cure those problems by now.

Maybe it's time for a new trainer?
