Im not a fan of khan a lot of the time, i think he's too mouthy and cock sure of himself BUT no I dont think he should retire, he can still achieve things in boxing but he needs to make some kind of changes imo.hal73 wrote:Super-middleweight world champion Carl Froch calls Amir Khan's career "a write-off" after he is knocked out by Danny Garcia. Re: Should Amir Khan retire?
Im a big fan of Froch's but I think that was a bit of a low blow to be honest because I remember Khan sending Froch a message on ringside wishing him all the best for the fight against Bute and he seemed genuine about that. It seems a little like Carl is sticking the boot in there when its uncalled for. I know they've had words in the past but i thought they'd sorted out there differences and seemed to be more friendly now. A bit disappointing from Carl.Quixall wrote:NO.....

Re: Should Amir Khan retire?
One thing Amir certainly doesnt lack is Cajones and he wont want to go out like that im sure of it! Knowing him *not that I do* he'll have the same mentality as when he lost to Prescott and want to redeem himself and as he puts it "shut the critics up" haAndypittcov wrote:Depends what his hearts telling him
Re: Should Amir Khan retire?
No not at all, silly question. It's a massive blow but to retire at 25 would be daft. Carl sticking the boot in, a bit unecessary.
Re: Should Amir Khan retire?
Exactly, like I said I like Froch a lot as he fights the elite over and over again but there was no need for those comments. He could of just said nothing.TheCobra wrote:No not at all, silly question. It's a massive blow but to retire at 25 would be daft. Carl sticking the boot in, a bit unecessary.

Glenn McCrory also put on twitter:
"My advice to amir would be Retire! He's written his name in history, he has the wealth, most important is health @AmirKingKhan"
Suppose everyone is entitled to an opinion, I have no doubt Khan will become a world champion again but also confident we will all see his chicken dance in the future also.

not only is he young he is still a fighter that puts bums in seats and will still make serious dough.TheCobra wrote:No not at all, silly question. It's a massive blow but to retire at 25 would be daft. Carl sticking the boot in, a bit unecessary.
but in spite of this i still think he should chuck it. as i honestly believe it's just a waiting game before he gets seriously hurt in a ring.
but because he's young, talented and has plenty of earning potential, he will carry on, of that i have no doubt

Re: Should Amir Khan retire?
No way. He just needs to box to his strengths and not get involved in a tear-up. Does anyone know if there was a rematch clause in the contract for last night's fight?
Re: Should Amir Khan retire?
Im thinking there isn't a clause as I'm sure i read on one of the various sites earlier today that Garcia's camp have already turned down a rematch stating that Khan is "done"
Re: Should Amir Khan retire?
After he's had a long break, which he deserves, there's some massive fights for Khan in the UK.
His decision, but I think he'll box on.

Re: Should Amir Khan retire?
He's 25 and a fantastic talent.
He needs to sort his defence out, if he hadnt left himself open last night we'd be saying it was a mismatch now after he continued to school Garcia for another 9 rounds.
I agree with the other thread, it's not Amir who should quit, it's his training team. He was woefully under prepared for a knock out artist like Garcia last night. He got clipped from round 1 and had no intention of stopping Garcia from getting shots through. Roach should have worked on his lack of common sense after Peterson, I didn't see any change.

Re: Should Amir Khan retire?
No way! Just blame the loss on weight making issues, make a few adjustments in the gym, step up to welter and take a couple of easy fights, job done.
Re: Should Amir Khan retire?
I dont think you can blame Roach totally, for Amirs defeat but I do think he needs a trainer who is more focused on him and isnt spread so thin as Roach seems to be these days. The bottom line is though that Amir is vulnerble and no trainer or conditioning can change that. Amir could concentrate more on defense and become a hit and run merchant, but if he does that then he will lose a lot of his tv appeal. The worrying thing about Khan is not just that he gets hurt, but his recupertive powers are very poor. Once hurt he basically falls to peices in a manner that is a bit reminicent of how Frank Bruno used to fall apart when hurt. Khan has got as far as he has becuase of his exceptional handspeed and he certainly doesnt lack heart but against world class fighters with some power he will always be vulnerble. The problem he will have now if he carries on is that everyone has seen how to beat him now and that will fuel his future opponents confidence. Also if he moves up to 147 he will be facing stronger guys. Whether he retires or not should depend on hwo much he still wants it but he doesnt want to get hurt again like he did on saturday too many times. If I was his management I would get him in with Pauli Maggliali for his welter title, a light puncher who he should be able to beat then he could have a big fight here with Kell Brook which would be interesting, then if he wins that a rematch maybe with Garcia, then win or lose get out of there. But nothing will be a sure thing for khan from now on.

Re: Should Amir Khan retire?
He shouldn't retire, but he's got to go back & learn the basics.
He takes too many risks & often looks like a raw amateur at times. His technique is dreadful & he doesn't seem to have learnt a thing from Freddie Roach. He's blessed with great speed & athleticism, but not much else & as a consequence, he is overly reliant on these things.
He doesn't appear to have any ring smarts; punch resistance that is less than satisfactory & to make matters worse, he leaves himself wide open to be caught.
Nobody can doubt Khan's massive balls & hearts, but that is part of the problem. He showed absolutely no survival instincts last night once hurt (a punch to his neck at that
), it makes for exciting fights, but it also makes Khan look like a boxing disaster waiting to happen.

Re: Should Amir Khan retire?
Yes he should retire, he has millions in the bank, and is in full health. He can still get a very good living off the celebrity circuit.
I think he just can't hold a punch at world class, I'm A Khan but i just see another bad beating for him next time he gets in with a half decent puncher. Garcia had never stopped a world class boxer before last night.

Re: Should Amir Khan retire?
Yes he should whilst he still has his health. Khan has taken some really big punches from the likes of Prescott, Maidana and Garcia last night. It looks like he has the same punch resistance as Enzo Mac. Get out whilst he can with his facilties in tact.
Khan did say 2 years ago he would retire after facing Pacman and Mayweather:
http://www.boxingnews24.com/2010/04/kha ... -pacquiao/
That's never going to happen now so he'd be is well throwing in the towel, enjoying his money and working on his Promotion company. He's had a good run.

Re: Should Amir Khan retire?
The thing is if Khan concentrated on defence and safety then he would not be the draw that has been, certainly in America. He also is not a naturally defensively gifted fighter, such as Mayweather or Hopkins, his only option would be to hit and move and use lots more footwork but a problem with that is that khan hasnt got great footwork and doesnt fight well when on the defensive or moving back.
I think Khan could gain a lot from working with Manny Steward who helped Wlad Klitchenko and Lennox Lewis tighten up their defences and protect their vulnerble chins. Steward would also probably have Khan concentrate more on a jab and move style and less on the flashy combinations which look good and exciting but leave him more open to counters.

Re: Should Amir Khan retire?
He's racking-up Maccarinelli style losses.
That's 2 knockouts from 3 losses in average company.
Brandon Rios, Olusegun or Mattysse could be further knockout losses. If you can carry a shot and have a dig, you'd only have to get through the first 1 or 2 rounds and then put it on him.
Wealth & status. He's got plenty of wealth but will never get the status. Thus retirement is an option for him. But his cronies and back-slappers won't be advising him that as they'd be unemployed.

Re: Should Amir Khan retire?
I cant see Khan retiring yet, he is what he is and just needs to regroup a little and forget all about fighting Mayweather and Pac. I think an ideal fight for Khan would be a shot at Pauli Maliginalli, at 147, who he has already beat. That would give him a title and he could go from there to big fights with Kell Brook and maybe rematches with Garcia and Maidana. If Khan cant beat Paulie then itd be time to hang them up. I think Amir has a few decent fights left i him but he should definately forget all about Floyd and also the likes of Bradley too....
Re: Should Amir Khan retire?
I think Khan should have a think about retiring. With the amount of heavy shots he's taken at only 25 I think his long term health is starting to become an issue.
Poor from Froch - no need to stick the boot in.

no, not one bad performance, repeated signs that he has a real vunerability and weakness, he has a weak chin, little defence of it and seemingly no desire to do anything about that.
he has been badly knocked out by prescott, looked like bambi on ice against maidana at times, and suffered a bad stoppage yesterday. he has also repeatedly got dragged into scraps in fights where he should be finishing off opponents using the obvious strengths he has in his game
Re: Should Amir Khan retire?
I agree Frochs comment was a bit classless, Im a big fan of Carl and think he let himself down a bit with this remark.
