Why is everyone ripping Freddie Roach?
Does he control his fighters by remove control or something? Pacman is clearly declining and Khan's biggest opponant is himself... he can only advise the fighters
Re: Why is everyone ripping Freddie Roach?
It's always the trainer's fault, never the fighters (allegedly!).

Re: Why is everyone ripping Freddie Roach?
I think Khan should leave him for the following reasons:
- The worrying insight we got prior to the fight of Khan's training being delegated to "Marvin", a largely unheard of character with seemingly very little authority.
- Basic technical flaws: Khan is often off balance when throwing, which detracts from his power and leaves him vulnerable. He is often off his feet when throwing - see how Garcia seemed to be lifting Khan up all the time, illustrating how he wasn't firmly planted. He tends to lean over his left leg (esp when looking for the left hook to the body), and doesn't have his right hand up, thus exposing him to the very punch that did for him. Why hasn't Roach addressed these basic issues?
- Basic tactical errors: he goes to war when hurt. Roach has seen this in the past and should have drummed it into Khan that he shouldn't do this. He's working with a lad with a dubious chin, he should have a survival strategy nailed.
- I believe Khan needs closer attention and a more authoritative task master to guide him back.

Think there is difference between ripping Roach and on the otherhand saying Khan should leave Roach.Khan should think about leaving Roach cos he is not listening to him or he is not following the gameplan for 12rounds. I originally thought he should leave Roach but now I think if Khan is not gonna listen then it doesnt really matter who is training him.

What about a stint with Rob McCraken or Adam Booth?

I think either would be a good call.forcefraser wrote:What about a stint with Rob McCraken or Adam Booth?

He needs a hair cutbig time.
Re: Why is everyone ripping Freddie Roach?
This is crazy - not long ago everyone agreed that Roach is the greatest trainer in the world, now some people think he'd be better off with Robert McCracken!!
People - inside the sport and outside it - need to realise that a boxer takes responsibility for his own preparation and performance and a trainer's job is to help and guide as much as possible.

Re: Why is everyone ripping Freddie Roach?
I think Amir need someone who can focus more just on him, while Roach seems to be spread very think these days plus his health may well be affecting how he can train fighters these days. Can also needs someone who is a better defensive expert than Roach, who for all his success has never been very strong on teaching his fighters a tight defence. Roach is certainly not the worst trainer out there but hes not the best either imo its just that he has had a run of great success with Manny and Amir, but there are other trainers out there who could help Khan make the changes he needs to do if he is to succeed in the future. My tip would be Manny Steward....
Re: Why is everyone ripping Freddie Roach?
Nobody in the GB gym would even talk to the guy.
They despise him.
Can't anyone remember Amir Khan using The Sun to sling mud at McCracken when his bug-eyed brother couldn't fight his way out of regional qualifiers, yet he expected Kal Yafai's vest? Who'd just medaled at the Europeans ?
They pulled team GB to shreds and joined Pakistan squad.
They're all completely dillusional and on another planet.

Interesting to hear that Gomez. You don't often hear fellow pros with such a dislike for each other.
I can remember the incident with Haroon Khan and remember thinking at the time what a set of prats they made of themselves. But didn't he then beat the Brit at a tournament? And whatever happened to him after that - is he at the Olympics for Pakistan?

Re: Why is everyone ripping Freddie Roach?
Yafai withdrew just a couple of days before the event with inflamed elbow injury. A stand-in took his position.
Haroon had been with the Pakistan squad for a while by then.
It's extremely arrogant to expect to stroll into the squad, when the other guys have toiled their way to that position with consistent performances.
They thought the surname would be a free-pass, which is completely unfair.

Yes but until pacman retires khan won't get enough attention, and the wild card gym always looks so busy, and I just agree a change is better then anything else, I like booth a lot but can't see it happening, McCraken knows khan pretty well already I think and I can see it working, also the constant flying around the world will be stopped too.danfoster wrote:This is crazy - not long ago everyone agreed that Roach is the greatest trainer in the world, now some people think he'd be better off with Robert McCracken!!
