Emmanuel Stewart: Khan did nothing wrong in the fight

Post by allahsnackbar »

Stewart was on the HBO broadcast and had Khan winning the first 2 rounds and thought that Khan was doing well. when Khan went down Stewart was talking us through the replay between rounds and he basically said that Khan didn't do anything wrong. It was just something that happens. Khan was throwing a 1-2 and Garcia was throwing a counter hook at the same time, BANG.

Stewart re-iterated this after the fight and just said that Khan fought a good fight and was winning but got caught in an exchange which can happen to anyone.

The fight was over once that punch landed. We can criticise Khan for not holding etc but he was never going to recover.

In light of people saying Khan should leave Roach and potentially go with Stewart I thought that was interesting.

I think Khan is what he is and even Mayweather got clubbed a few times by Mosley and Cotto and even Ortiz. It's not Khans fault that he doesn't have the chin of Mayweather.

btw one of the things I liked about Garcia was his willingness to trade punches. Every time Khan was on the offensive, Garcia held his ground and swung back. He had to take a few but he was willing to take some to give some. He obviously has a lot of faith in his chin and naturally in his power.

Yeah but I think the difference between Khan and Mayweather is that Khan tends to be the guy in his fights who leads off, he's not a counter puncher and whenever you lead off you leave yourself open to a counter and thats what happened. Basically I think Khans style would be better suited being a counter-puncher but a boxers style is just in the DNA in a way so to speak I guess.

Garcia is a counter puncher though, thats why. He waits for his opponent to lead off with something and he tries to counter with the powerful left hook. He done it all night against. Morales could stand up to his punches better though, although he did eventually get tagged later on in the fight and put down.

Khan has fast hands but not fast, defensive reactions like a Floyd.

There are hundreds of animated signatures with Floyd throwing, ducking wild shots and coming back with his own counters.

If Steward could not see that putting gloves up to your face, whilst stood smack bang in range - thus inviting clubbing hooks (Garcia's trademark left especially) ... Well I'm disappointed.

I assume he's grooming team Khan for their business!

Despite training my favourite ever fighter & remaking Wlad into a world-beater, Manny Steward has talked absolute shite for years.

"Hearns got a leg rub, that's why Hagler KO'd him"

"You're looking great, you're the man, ooh baby you're gonna kill him" (to Naz before the MAB fight)

"Williams is killing him, Martinez is fvcked, there's no way Martinez is going to win, Williams is... Oh" (while Paul Williams walked forward & ate huge counter punches in the SGM rematch)

I cringe whenever he opens his mouth, tbh. This weekend, he couldn't honestly see the counter punches coming, & that maybe flurrying seven or eight shots with your chin hanging out to dry might get you clocked?

Shee-it.

he hasn't got the Ring IQ to be a counterpuncher, counterpunching involves patience and coolheadedness and a calculating brain. if he did try to play counterpuncher i think a smart fighter could just out-wait him and make him lead off anyway, which he'd end up doing out of pure anxiety

oh and anxiety is a good theme to bring up with Amir, he fights full of anxiety. burns nervous energy by the buckeload

i said this years ago, khan's best bet would have been to study and digest Sven Ottke's entire career, and try to win every fight on points by scoring 3 or 4 punches a round and running the rest of the time.
