Crikey, that is sad news. Saw him a couple years ago and he was trying to turn his personal life around.
Re: R.I.P Richard Evatt
Tragic end for a very good fighter really sad to hear that he has passed onTommy13Gunn wrote:Not sure when he passed away, but hearing he banged his head&collapsed once let out of hospital, what a fantastic puncher he was in the Ams&Pros.. R.I.P

Re: R.I.P Richard Evatt
That's a shocker.
Didn't come across Richard that often in the late 90's early 00's but do remember well his fight with Junior Jones when Naz fought Paul Ingle.
Very very sad and only 39. I feel for his family.
RIP Richard.

Tragic news,
God bless Tiger. Rest in Peace.

Re: R.I.P Richard Evatt
Tragic news was just thinking back the other day how he pushed Junior Jones to the limit. That loss seemed to take something away from him as he was never the same. He may have lacked the finesse for top level but serious puncher and as gritty and tough as they came. RIP
Re: R.I.P Richard Evatt
Remember him as an ABA champ and a powerful, exciting fighter well ahead against Junior Jones when he got caught in the penultimate round. This is a waste.

Re: R.I.P Richard Evatt
Yeah, although Junior Jones was a shot fighter when they fought people often forget that Jones was ahead against Paul Ingle at the time of the stoppage further down the line.
Re: R.I.P Richard Evatt
Just heard on facebook, terrible news, he went from some bad times, almost knocked out world champion Junior Jones, who had knocked out Barrera, he had Junior Jones in all sorts of trouble, before he got caught himself, so near. Big puncher, tiger hairstyle. Big loss.Tommy13Gunn wrote:Not sure when he passed away, but hearing he banged his head&collapsed once let out of hospital, what a fantastic puncher he was in the Ams&Pros.. R.I.P

He has been totally off the radar...did he have personal demons?
RIP, used to always tune in for his fights, always exciting. And as mentioned, was beating up Jones at the time of stoppage

Terrible news.
A hero of mine growing up in the 90s and i got to know him well during my days at BBN, between 2004 and 2008 - when he considered making a comeback. I was in awe of him even then.
Had a lot of personal problems that i know of - and they haunted him both during and after his up-and-down career that was never short of excitement. It wouldn't be fair on his family to go into them on here, though. But they were the same demons that caused the downfall of another quality fighter from Coventry, Dean Pithie - although he's beat them and no longer lives in the city.
Sad news for Coventry, Midlands and British boxing. RIP, mate.

R.i.p Rich, Very exciting fighter, his fight with junior jones is always remembered and talked about around Coventry
Quite a shock seeing this thread because I'm not on Facebook and hadn't heard, didn't really know him myself but I know the poster CB did.

RIP Tiger. A warrior.
Re: R.I.P Richard Evatt
It's a shame; he was a very fierce fighter; (there is a good youtube montage of Richard boxing). When he was an amateur the Boxing News rated him the pound for pound best amateur puncher. I have heard that Coventry is a difficult city to live in for a celebrity/well known person.

Re: R.I.P Richard Evatt
I was far from a close friend of Rich's but knew him for a good few years and was good friends with one of his younger sisters Louise growing up and lived next door to another of his sisters Lisa for a good few years.
I can only say on how I found him over the years and he was always sound with me and I found him a good lad. However, there's plenty of stories (some true, some not) of him being a bully over the years both whilst he was boxing and after.
As Podmore has put he had his fair share of problems with certain aspects of his life and the company he kept but that's not for this board. What I do know his family will be gutted and especially his Old Man Step.
I can remember Louise showing us the video of his first Pro fight a couple of days after the fight and he put the other geezer down with his first landed punch of his Pro career. Not a bad way to start.
Saw him fight a few times live and he was a very entertaining fighter who could dig like a mule and that never left him.
RIP Rich.
