He certainly has a good sence of boxing history, he got the Khan thing wrong and the Thompson stuff was his job for sure.. However if the Kesslar fight can't be made before the Bute rematch then a fight against an Olympic goald medalist and reigning European champion at his weight would be a good fight in anyone's book, it's only Froch for whom that would seem an easy fight!

I felt Bunce saying Khan-Garcia was a mismatch was a dig at Sky on behalf of allegedly's Saturday night entertainment
Re: Does Buncey know anything...
and you base that on what exactly? Your personal opinion? i've read your posts, and I've read mickey's. anyone who asks (assuming it was a genuine question) 'so is it difficult to get big fights arranged without a major promoter on board?' (your q to safeerah on another thread'), anyone who has to actually ask that question, should not be dissing anyone else's boxing nous. although it was doubtless part of your standard ingenuous schtick to get someone to open up but, hey-ho.

He said all those things? I suprised.Maybe he's on a bad run of predictions. I was sure he said Thompson was another fat american HW with no heart the first time he fought Klitchko. He can be emotional and screams nonstop but usually quite knowledgable knows his stuff.danconnollyeire wrote:This is spose to be Britian's top pundit:
- 'Garcia a walkover for Khan'
- 'Tricky Thompson will test Wlad'
- 'Bute fight a mistake for fading Froch'
- 'Froch vs DeGale the stand-out British fight' (WTF???????????????????????)
Now the top 3 I disagreed with before they happened. The Froch-DeGale thing is insane. What really gets me is he rips fighters to pieces then bums them on his show (went on saying how Dawson can't fit his entire fanbase on a bus then says everyone will be routing him on against Hopkins!!!)

He knows a bit, but not as much as he thinks. Enthusiasm can only - or should only - take you so far.
Same goes for Hart and Sheehan (minus the enthusiasm). We need new blood, but it's been said before.

People gotta see in boxing that there ain't any underdog ;) "That will be the reason nobody will fight me"... :p Khan on paper by far was much better than Garcia!!! One punch can change a fight and in this fight that is exactly what happened... Keep up the good work Buncey opinions make fights more exciting!!!

We do indeed need new blood...but sadly we won't get it until people start to see those lot for what they are. Bunce does it time and time again.Captain Hook wrote:He knows a bit, but not as much as he thinks. Enthusiasm can only - or should only - take you so far.

It's all fine and good going "Bunce is only saying what his paymasters tell him" but what about when both he and Lillis make complete factual errors? I.e.
"Narvaez has never fought outside of Argentina" (Talking about the Donaire fight, Narvaez had previously fought in Italy and in France)
"Should they have let Narvaez out of Argentina earlier?" (He was out of Argentina as early as 2002 as a professional)
"Can Narvaez carry his power up, he has stopped 19 guys before" (Narvaez didn't have any great power at 115, why would they think he had power at 118? In fact his previous stoppage had come 2 years previously at 112)
"Alvarez has defended his title once against Ryan Rhodes" (Prior to the Cintron fight IIRC, forgetting the fact Alvarez had beaten The Gomez)
"Peret fought Tyson Fury in a kilt" (Nope, that was Marcel Zeller)
"I'd award Bahktin 120 points" (OK this was by John Rawling but still...)
Paymasters or not they have all been errors by Bunce or Lillis (not sure who said which, they were very early in the channels history). It's annoying to have professionals making such inaccurate comments.

Dan Dares - on the money pal !
Re: Does Buncey know anything...
He has his moments, (don't we all?) but if you asked him a detailed and obscure question about boxing from some time ago then odds on he'd know or be in the ballpark. Maybe Bunce is not his best in studio conditions? I don't right care; he's a fan, spoke at Shaun Grays' funeral and does his best. He has a boss who pays his wages and he's not in a position to tell his boss to kiss his arse; the same as most of us.leftysreturn wrote:I think he's pretty clueless personally, great for hype and bluster but in terms of actual knowledge not so much.

To be fair you aren't gonna get any idea of who the Oxford graduates are from seeing them type their opinions on a message board.leftysreturn wrote:This coming from the man who claims he has a degree from oxford......they must of really left their standards drop...OR you're full of shit?!mugabi wrote:Ys i do find lefty somewhat trollishCounter-puncher wrote:i've read your posts, and I've read mickey's. anyone who asks (assuming it was a genuine question) 'so is it difficult to get big fights arranged without a major promoter on board?' Yeah, however general Grammar and the general content of his posts indicate the level of education he is operating at and its not Oxford graduate level! My uncle went to one of the Oxbridge colleges that make up Oxford university and his way of conversing *even in a forum setting* is far superior to what this ignoramus spouts!

Re: Does Buncey know anything...
I might sound like I'm just being wise after the event, but I didn't think Garcia would be a walkover for Khan either. Not that Khan wouldn't win, but I thought it was a 50/50 fight. Either man could've won. Whereas the same weekend Haye vs Chisora was only ever going to have one winner, I wasn't ever 100% convinced Khan was going to win. He was fighting an unbeaten World Champion, and though this doesn't mean anything much these days, I felt Garcia would turn up and give it a real go and it was possible he'd trouble Khan.
That may have just been based on the fact I'd never watched Garcia fight though, so didn't really know much about him. On paper, just basing it on records, it looked 50 / 50. Maybe that shows that I know less about the boxing than the pundits, mind.
