Very good docu-film, if people havent seen it and have spare 90mins I strongly suggest watching it. All 3 came across very well.

Indeed, an excellent program.
Jonas is a lovely lass. Jazza looks a handful and Stalker's candidness is something you don't see too often. He looks very focused and driven indeed.

Re: channel 4 at 11.05pm
my only gripe was the narrative kept insisting (in the classic line of self-promotion so common to scousers) on telling us that scousers stick together, fighting city, everyone else in the country hates us (you want to know why? cos you can't shut up with your scousers this scousers that scousers the other malarkey), and best of all, 'all good scouse lads love their grans'. as though thats a sentiment foreign to anyone outside Liverpool. only a minor nark it's just scousers can't seem to help ramming down your throat the various characteristics they seem to regard as their own private territory when they share them with just about the whole feckin world never mind the whole country. like i say, just a minor gripe. it's just you don't get people from Scunthorpe continually saying 'the thing about people from Scunthorpe is we stick together/love our nans/great sense of humour....'.

As I say it didn't detract too much from what was a brilliant programme and thought all three boxers came out of it really well.

Re: channel 4 at 11.05pm
glad it wasn't just me, then.
Re: channel 4 at 11.05pm
I agree - it was a really good programme and the only negative was the Bunce-Style narrative (the usual "they have fought their way out of the mean streets" etc.). As somebody else said, the "scousers love their grans" bit was particularly random !
I think it was Jazza's dad who made the "I am not british, I am a Scouser" (or was it Natasha's dad - both bald fellas !).
Natasha is obviously a great athlete and extremely personable - if she does well at the Olympics then there will be mega commercial opportunities for her of the Jessica Ennis proportions I am sure.
Not so sure about Stalker - although a great prospect and very candid, I am not sure how many sponsors would put him in front of a live mike ?
A shame about Dickens who seems a really good lad - I am not sure of the politics involved : who was chosen at his weight / did they qualify ? It seems to me that if you are on the squad then you need to be given the opportunity to qualify otherwise what is the point (also, the usual "not experienced" is a chicken and egg problem - they need the opportunities in order to gain that experience !).

Not all scousers believe that nonsense, but the ones that do are some of the most tiresome people I've ever met.
Re: channel 4 at 11.05pm
I spent over 10 years working for 3 different companies in Liverpool (number of employees ranging from 100 to over 3,000) and everybody I met did believe/speak that nonesense (and I agree - it is very tiresome). The Dark Destroyer wrote: Not all scousers believe that nonsense, but the ones that do are some of the most tiresome people I've ever met.

I watched 5 minutes of it but could not stand the accent longer than that.

Bollocks, I went to uni in liverpool as a granny-hating, lone wolf who had no interest in the fight game. 3 years later, me and me gran couldn't be closer, the wolf pack has now multiplied to 4 and i can't have a drink without wanting to fightCounter-puncher wrote:my only gripe was the narrative kept insisting (in the classic line of self-promotion so common to scousers) on telling us that scousers stick together, fighting city, everyone else in the country hates us (you want to know why? cos you can't shut up with your scousers this scousers that scousers the other malarkey), and best of all, 'all good scouse lads love their grans'. as though thats a sentiment foreign to anyone outside Liverpool. only a minor nark it's just scousers can't seem to help ramming down your throat the various characteristics they seem to regard as their own private territory when they share them with just about the whole feckin world never mind the whole country. like i say, just a minor gripe. it's just you don't get people from Scunthorpe continually saying 'the thing about people from Scunthorpe is we stick together/love our nans/great sense of humour....'.

Re: channel 4 at 11.05pm
Why was the double world champion Indian girl having to qualify ?
Re: channel 4 at 11.05pm
Same here. Interesting programme but could not stand her accent :)
Re: channel 4 at 11.05pm
I thought all three of them represented themselves well. Maybe there was a bit too much empthasis on the scouse thing and as if Liverpool is the only city in England with rough parts of it.
But it was good to see these who have come from places like Scottie Road and Toxteth and have made it to the Olympics, when a lot of the kids they grew up with will be out on the streets up to all sorts. Shows kids from places like these that anyone can do it if they put the work and dedication in.
Im looking forward to watching the boxing in the Olympics now.
I don't know much about Jazza Dickens but I believe he's meant to be really good and one to watch out for in the future.

Pick a window, you're leaving
Being from north wales people always think i have a scouse accent, until they meet a real scouser that is.
