Who are your London 2012 Olympics Favorites

Post by ricky_old »

My kid Felix Verdejo (Puerto Rico) is going to be there in the 60 kg division. I know is a tough field but Verdejo is ready and hopefully will be a big suprise for the more mature fighters participating...

I am sorry. At that weight is very talented, and a phenomenon: Vasyl Lomachenko of Ukraine. Yasniel Toledo of Cuba is also a difficult rival. My favorite fighters to win gold medals in each of the weights are:

49 kg: Zou Shiming (CHINA)

52 kg: Rau'shee Warren (USA)

56 kg: Sergey Vodopyanov (RUSSIA)

60 kg: Vasyl Lomachenko (UKRAINE)

64 kg: Rosniel Iglesias (CUBA)

69 kg: Serik Sapiyev (KAZAKHSTAN)

75 kg: Evhen Khytrov (UKRAINE)

81 kg: Egor Mekhontsev (RUSSIA)

91 kg: Artur Beterbiyev (RUSSIA)

+91 kg: Anthony Joshua (GRAND BRETAIN)

Yeah I think Raushee has the best chance to win Gold...I thought Ramirez coulda got the decision against Lomanchenko, I think it was the AIBA World Championships...

I think Marcus Browne, Raushee Warren, and Jose Ramirez will medal...not sure if I would say Gold though

Too many older fighters here I think. You should expect to see some youngsters arrive for this competition. My current theory is that amateur boxers probably peak at about 24 (excepting the heaviest classes), given how much the sport relies on hand speed and footwork and discounts strength. If you're Mario Kindelan, you're so much better than anyone else you can be untouchable until your 30s, but some of these older guys will be less than they were, and the younger fighters are improving. Hope this means the US can nick a few medals.

If you look at the last two Olympics there were three boxers in each who had never won a medal in any major championship,Worlds,Olympics,Pan Ams,Asian games and europeans.Expect a couple of surprises at least.

Dont want to look over confident here but I hope he has the oportunity to show his skills against the best. Win or lose I know what to expect from him in the near future since he is still developing. So I know is a really tough field for all our kids but as Mike and Emile said these young lions may bring big surprises for the older and more experienced fighters. :yay:

Well I'm a little sad because my kid lost yesterday 14-9 to Vasyl Lomachenko (Ukraine). 1st round 5-3 2nd 5-4 and 3rd 4-2. No excuses, he lost to the best man in the 60 kg division and a more mature fighter so hopefully this new experience will help in his development... :box: Remember that name, FELIX VERDEJO, hopefully you will hear that name in the future. God bless u all... :TU:

A great effort indeed, remember Lomachenko isnt just the best lightweight he is the P4P king.
Puerto Rico have three of the best teenagers in the world,Felix.Jantony Ortiz and Jeyvier Cintron. They should all go far.

Great fight by Verdejo, Loma was struggling to get the win. Very impressive showing by the PR boxers.
