That was part of Atlas' problem, too.
Imagine the state Tyson would have left some of those sacrificial natives in down south. Yikes.

Wasn't it also that the match couldn't sell in the States?
Anyway Japan is a unique country in that they embrace foreign fighters like no other. Bob Sapp couldn't speak a word of Japanese and was far from the best in K1 and yet he was not only the most famous kickboxer, but the best-liked. His fight vs Korean Choi Hong-man was front-page news there. Even Butterbean and Peter f'n Okhello are stars there. I would say any boxer with a gimmick - especially heavyweights - would do very well there, financially, if his limitations prevent him from doing well in the States. Kimbo Slice, with his multiple disciplines, could easily do what Sapp did.

Tubbs, was totally outclassed, mentally and physically by Tyson...............You were probably in nappies when this fight took place, so be quite young manGoodnight, Irene wrote:Tubbs took some real blows in there, I'll give you that.dempseyfire wrote:Pitiful surrender? Tubbs came to fight, did OK the first round, and then just got KTFO. Nothing cowardly about his performance at all . . he showed much more fight in less than 2 rounds vs Mike than Smith did in 12.Goodnight, Irene wrote:
Let us know when you've watched it.
The, "knockout punch," certainly wasnt among them.

And the fans prior to the Tubbs fights went berserk to even get a glimpse of Mike. He went out running at 4am and they were all there, trying to run with him. Unbelievable...Controversial wrote:Tyson fought in the same arena in Tokyo two years before he fought Douglas, against Tony Tubbs.

Looking back on it, the idea of Japan as a super power was just ludicrous.
It is by far the most backwards country ive ever worked in.
In 15 years we will be saying the same about China's dramatic collapse. Just u see.

WHy ludicrous.....they were/are an economic powerhouse. They have an imperial past only England can better.......... they recovered tremendously from the deflation of the 90s and their economic powerhouse status is assured even as China rises.... there will not be a dramatic collapse in China... 100 years ago China was the worlds second greatest economic powerhouse...now it has risen again the last 12 or so years...Khaosai-Galaxy wrote:dempseyfire wrote:Yep.
