What is Amir Khan's best win?
So with it now being 7 years since Khan made his professional debut, the question I set to you is what is the biggest/best win of his career so far?
Candidates-
Andriy Kotelnyk-Khan's first world title fight was won over a genuinely top level Light Welterweight in Kotelnyk. Khan was making his debut at 140 and put on a near punch perfect performance barely losing a round.
Paul Malignaggi-Khan's second defence of his world title was against American Malignaggi. "Paulie" was a genuine world level fighter who had only been beaten clearly by Cotto (UD12) and Hatton (TKO11) and Paulie was also at home in New York (Khan's first bout outside of the UK).
Marcos Maidana-Khan's 3rd defence of his title was against Argentina's hard hitting Maidana, a crude but hurtful puncher who was 29-1 (27) going into the bout. Khan dominated much of the bout but was forced into a slug fest and seemed to answer a number of questions about his chin
Zab Judah-Khan's fifth WBA title defence also saw him unifying his title with Judah's IBF title as he looked to prove he was the #1 guy at 140. Judah entered the bout on a 5 fight winning streak including a controversial win over Matthysse and a stoppage over Mabuza but was no challenge for Khan.
Also as well as voting, in the poll, fee free to rate each victory from 1-10

Kotelnyk
Re: What is Amir Khan's best win?
It's a bit of a paradox, but Kotelnik was both his most outstanding and most forgettable bout.
Kotelnik produced one of his best performances afterwards, against Devon Alexander but got jobbed on a Don King-esque scorecard.
Which adds to Khan's win.

I think the Maidana victory was a greater one to be honest.G0mez wrote:It's a bit of a paradox, but Kotelnik was both his most outstanding and most forgettable bout.

I don't think Khan boxed well against Maidana, despite showing heart and providing entertainment.
Re: What is Amir Khan's best win?
Best performance out of these was the Judah fight.
Re: What is Amir Khan's best win?
Well the reason I think the Maidana victory was his best is because we all know power is Khan's achilles heel and Maidana certainly provided that and tested Khan in that fight. I'd go out on a limb and say that Khan would beat 95 % of guys who dont have the trouble to hurt him purely because he is so quick and throws such a high volume of punches! Lets be honest, If Garcia didnt have heavy hands like he does he would of been eating shots all night against Khan until he eventually was grinded down or lost a wide points decision!crusader wrote:I don't think Khan boxed well against Maidana, despite showing heart and providing entertainment.

Kotelnik, which speaks volumes about his resume.
Maidana was crude as fornicate but had power and Khan was lucky he was the house fighter in the tenth round.

Re: What is Amir Khan's best win?
Kotelnik he beat a good fighter that day almost flawless performance
Re: What is Amir Khan's best win?
I think people are forgetting Kotelnik took on and beat an unbeaten Maidana before Khan.
Maidana is a crude puncher, and save for Joe 'firm but unfair' Cortez, Amir might have been stopped for sure.
The Argentinian is a quiet man. But post fight he said Cortez bruised his arm from tugging him away hard, and almost felt like Cortez was going to hit him too at one point. Cortez was Khan's defence that night.
Devon Alexander showed exactly how to beat Maidana and won every round.

Yeah but as the saying goes Gomez, styles make fights! Kotelnik did beat Maidana but Kotelnik was/ is a guy with a very good chin and also very good at covering up. Khan on the other hand is a guy whose chin is not the best and big punchers are his achilles heel. For me thats why the Maidana victory is his best win up to now.G0mez wrote:I think people are forgetting Kotelnik took on and beat an unbeaten Maidana before Khan.

You gave Kotelnik no credit for beating Maidana before the Khan fight. In fact, you said Maidana was robbed blind (altough he was'nt. it was close).G0mez wrote:I think people are forgetting Kotelnik took on and beat an unbeaten Maidana before Khan.

Re: What is Amir Khan's best win?
Astonishing that some people consider Kotelnik his 'best win'. Khan called Kotelnik "the worst world champion in boxing" in 2009 before he signed to fight him, and rightly so, the guy was pretty ordinary, and this has become some kind of outstanding result for him? Please.
Re: What is Amir Khan's best win?
khan was lucky to win maidana so i'll say his performance vs judah was his best

When you look at the above list it makes his "superstar" status even more absurd.
A good fighter, with great hand speed and plenty heart but ultimately he has been well marketed and believes too much in his own hype.

Re: What is Amir Khan's best win?
To be fair Hagler, I think Khan's "superstar" status is on a par with the status that had been given to the likes of Arturo Gatti and Micky Ward.... based on his excitement. He was involved in 2 fights of the year contenders and, against lesser / faded opposition has shown flashes of brilliance (Malignaggi and Judah).
I think in someways as some people paid to watch Gatti as he always brought excitement and there was a hope that one day he would be put in a disciplined performance that made him step up and beat the elite (it never happened).... people have bought into Khan. Like Khan, and against weaker oppostion, in patches Gatti looked truly elite - but this was sometimes only moments in fights - quite often he would switch off during fights and resort to being the brawler - and when he did step up, he was found wanting.
Khan aint the only one whose been over hyped. I haven't really seen a US pundit seriously give Khan a hope against Mayweather or Pacquiao.

For me, it will always be his clash with Maidana... That was a great win for him.
