I like Frank, he's a character.
But thought his credibility took a battering when he publicly thrashed the Haye vs Chisora fight, called it another nail in British Boxing's coffin. He was damning, scathing and disgusted by the whole thing.
.. Then is all for it, even supplying Price as pundit !

"I am sickened by it," he said of the upcoming Upton Park affray. "I am a traditionalist. I would never have thought about doing anything like this. It is a nail in boxing's coffin.
"The British Board needs to be protected, possibly by the Government in this instance, because the sport must be kept under control. This fight will give boxing's opponents more ammunition to marginalise it. Do these fighters deserve such a big payday after the way they have behaved in Munich? If they hadn't had that brawl, no one would be talking about them, they are yesterday's men. To draw attention to themselves they have had to cause a night of shame and bring boxing into disrepute.
"One of the things wrong with modern boxing is that it's not about building fighters, it's about doing stunts for TV," he added. "Let's be honest, this fight will help sell allegedly [the new allegedly-backed subscription channel] but I wouldn't buy it out of principle.

He's got more faces than the Town Hall clock
No sympathy with him losing his deal, having provided us with constant mismatches in recent years, featuring some of the worst imports I've ever seen, who'd struggle to beat a pub drunk.
The dig at Hearn is just pathetic. Perhaps it's Frank who knows nothing about boxing, in that if you provide a good product at a good price people WILL watch. Give them rubbish and they'll watch something else.

The sutherland "story" was pretty damning too. Who knows how much of it was true...
Re: Maloney and Hearn. What he knows about boxing
I understand where franks coming from, hope price doesn't let him down to much, if he does frank will find another star !

Apparently Maloney was told to do a joint contract with Matchroom over Price and he refused to do it so sky dropped him. The same happened with Lewis with Sky wanting Lennox to go to Matchroom so he left sky.

Re: Maloney and Hearn. What he knows about boxing
I like Frank, and glad he's staying in the game.
Re: Maloney and Hearn. What he knows about boxing
Sour grapes on Maloney's part, unfortunately.
I have no affiliation with any promotional outfit but imo Eddie Hearn has been a breath of fresh air to British boxing in the past couple of years, putting on some great shows. Maloney's criticism of Hearn appears somewhat unfair.
I know that more often than not, Id far rather watch a matchroom promotion than one of Maloney's.

Re: Maloney and Hearn. What he knows about boxing
Frank only has himself to blame for being dropped by Sky,to many poor fights in half empty leisure centres, then trys to redeem himself by putting a packed card on just before the contracts run out but it didn`t work this time. However he adds more value to allegedly and i do wish Price all the best in his career.
He does sound bitter going on about Lewis and loyalty with Sky all that was a long long time ago.

Re: Maloney and Hearn. What he knows about boxing
Frank does sound very bitter about a lot of things in the last few years. A shame really, but Lewis was a long time ago and he hasn't really had a decent marquee fighter for quite a while. Price is a great hope though and I must say I'm still surprised Sky didn't stay on board for Price.
Re: Maloney and Hearn. What he knows about boxing
What did you learn? Boxing is a fickle sport with promoters doimg everything to look after #1 - de la hoya up garcoas arse after khan fight being point in case. Don king was the best at walking in with one fighter and out with the other.smoggy7188 wrote:The same happened with Lewis with Sky wanting Lennox to go to Matchroom so he left sky.
Hearns september show has 11 fights 5 of them for titles, announced tomorrow i think.
Re: Maloney and Hearn. What he knows about boxing
He did have David Haye originally. I think he also did the role as promoter for Hatton's 'homecoming' I think I recall.
I think a bit of sourness crept in when Rendall left, after getting him to a title fight in his defence.
But it's hard to argue some of the shows. I remember one show, all the Latvian cannon fodder were destroyed in a round apiece and I think he has to eat humble pie a little bit after.
Obviously people work a show to their budget, but I think a marquee name has eluded him for a little while. It looked solid with Sutherland & Jeffries looking the biz early doors. But obviously those two are no more. Price could be his saviour at this point.
It's a new chapter, let's see how it goes for the fella. But it's about looking forwards now, and not dwelling on past relations / successes.
The slagging of Hearn is uncalled for though. Sure Barry takes a lot of credit for his position, but Eddie is delivering and forging great relationships of his own. Most important of all the fights have been great.

Agreed with you. Think he means well but unfortunately, has served up rubbish like you said.
Eddie may not have served an apprentiship but he's delivering good matches which is what i want to see as a boxing fan.
Re: Maloney and Hearn. What he knows about boxing
I think he changed it to 6 title fights in the end. Announced this morning at 9 apparently.Wales wrote:What did you learn? Re: Maloney and Hearn. What he knows about boxing
I think boxing fans should be sceptical of Fast Eddie for a little while, but in fairness he's delivering what fans want.
British fighters in meaningful fights against the best names in their division, win or lose.
Not ''NEVER BEEN STOPPED'' or ''FORMER WORLD CHAMPION ABOUT FIVE WEIGHT CLASSES LOWER, A MODERN LEGEND'' or any other rubbish.
Sure, he's in it to make money, but there's a way to make money without mugging off the paying punters as others have done for so long.
Maloney is alright at digging up bodies, but his promoting has been well below par. Booking a leisure centre and then relying on fighters to sell tickets, and taking the Sky money as a given..... I'd imagine those bite marks on his arse are a little sore.
Eff him!

Re: Maloney and Hearn. What he knows about boxing
I like frank too, he's a good guy.. I think the problem that promoters have caused is that to be successful you don't need to 'loads' about boxing... Just be in touch with what the fans and the general public want. FW doesn't really give a shit about us (the vocal hardcore) because we only supply about 1% of his money once things become mainstream.
Eddie Hearn is managing, thus far at least to keep both sets of fans happy. Plus the boxers and the people who deal with them. I don't think a monopoly is good but that said I don't think of matchroom as a promotional body any more - In all fairness they are now Sky Sports Boxing.
Maybe Frank should have co-promoted Price. It's almost selling out for sure but he may just have a big enough star in price to pull a lot of interest. I must admit I'm warming to allegedly.

Re: Maloney and Hearn. What he knows about boxing
What i was against was this was not under BBBof C but when you saw the public demand for this fight you had to look at it in a new light, Yes i would say the say things again. This was one of the reason i did not go to the show myself. Why stop David Price,s profile rising because of what i said and believe.i to this day have not watch the fight .G0mez wrote:I like Frank, he's a character.

Wasn't it Frank's brother Eugene who had Haye at the start?G0mez wrote:He did have David Haye originally. I think he also did the role as promoter for Hatton's 'homecoming' I think I recall.

Re: Maloney and Hearn. What he knows about boxing
i read all your post and take on what some say and other i have to laugh at, You all seem to forget the bad shows matchroom were putting forward, we are all guilty of doing a few bad shows in a year but one can only work with in a budget
you have which is TV money, Tickets sales. Sponsorship, is not only the putting on of the shows that you have to cost is the everyday running of your office and staff you have. i am not against matchroom getting there sky deal what i do not want is
one team running boxing as that will be bad for the sport, Let see how long they can keep up these great so call shows if they do not bring fighters alone the right way. I love the way some of you mention my bad nights at the office but forget the good ones we brought you but thats life. Here to a new chapter in my life and let see who brings you the best from now on. One thing for sure the winners should be you boxing fan's. or will you be conned by smiles and twitter ????
