He was 5'8" and fought as a heavyweight on the unlicensed bills, which is impressive I guess. His best wins were a young McClean (who wasn't a great boxer) and Ron Stander, who was shot to bits and was taking fights anywhere and not training. Even Shaw admits he would've lost if Stander wasn't injured.

He was a horrible man who bullied his way through life. If you want to applaud somebody who had nothing to offer the world except rage and violence then fill your boots. He would've got got killed by any c- heavyweight of the time, same as McClean.

They benefited by many over matched opponents and anybody who makes some idiot claim that either was the hardest man in Britain is probably basing their opinion on their self serving glossy biographies. Don't believe all you read.

I hate random people I meet who tell you they've been to jail. So what? Shaw spent years and years behind the door, and shouldn't be applauded for it.

Fireman, nurses etc are the real heroes. eff these guys.
Probably my favourite ever BoxRec post.

From what i heard of Roy shaw he was never a bully. He never went round bashing up people who didn't warrant it.

I've no respect for the so called 'hard man' hero worshipping, but credit where it's due, my pal who knew him was a real gent, and not a hard case at all, and he said he never witnessed Shaw bullying anyone or even intimidating people in his company.

Roy got his house burgled a couple of years ago by a guy called PAUL MEEKING. He is the best friend of Billyboy Martindale ,son of LEW YATES.

Why is this relevant on a boxing forum? Well Billyboy Martindale is also a wannabe boxer. www.billyboymartindale.co.uk and his dad can be found here www.lewwildthingyates.co.uk

clearly there is little honour surrounding such scum.

I worked in a hospital for over 7 years (A&E), and they wouldn't even look at visitors in the eye when being asked how long they've got to wait. They'll act like they're invisible. All this "nurses are the true heroes" is absolute shite. It's a cliche expression to sound good. There're very good ones of course, but I'm afraid I think 60% have no empathy at all. Could the reason be they're overworked and under-cut ...I don't know. They might have started out with the right intention (to help people), but have been worn down 'N' hardened because of the work-load ect; either that or they're all on the blob 24/7. I could go into a four page rant of stories of bad experiences of bad attitudes with staff in a hospital, but I wouldn't know were to begin. That being said, there was plenty of pricks that used to go there and abuse the staff too. :(

Maybe there are some coldest, meanest spirited people working as nurses .. but I think the majority are not.
I would put a nurses job right up there with the most difficult and demanding of jobs.
Wiping the shitty arse of somebody with hiv/aids/etc who is trying to attack you at the same time .. how much would you want to get paid for doing the same?
I would guess it would be more than double what the front line nurses are getting.
And sure they know the job they are getting into .. but that don`t make it easier does it?
I agree with your comments in relation to firemen/police etc .. 95% of the time the jobs sat on their arse .. the HS kinda covers their arse the other 5%.

Well like I said, I worked in a hospital for donkeys. Not all nurses "wipe bums" only the ADs (the lowest level nurse). There's 4 diffrent levels. Don't get me wrong, I was friends with all the staff there, so I'm not being bitter or having a pop, but as much as I got on with 'em it didn't stop the fact that I witnessed with my own eyes them being rude on many occasions to patients or visitors. I should know -cause I was the one called when it all f*cking 'kicked off'. Many times the argument could've been easily avoided by a nurse just being a bit human (a bit of eye contact; letting ya know what's going on ect). It ain't hard! There were good nurses of course. I'm just being honest. Wasn't a nice place to work IMO. Most of the time they'd call super Eddy (security) waaay to quick instead of talking to the person and seeing why they were angry rather then making it worse, with us being called, because the person was complaining (not shouting) about waiting. Thank f*uck I left that place. Security should be called because it's the last resort. It's easy to have the big wooden spoons in motion when you ain't the one who's got to roll around on the floor with 'em. We were the entertainment for the girls there I'm sure. The shit c*nts lol

In that hospital it was the first thing they did (bad habit) we were called for the silliest things e.g. a girl charging her iphone using the wall socket lol. "could we tell her not too" When we asked the sparrow, she couldn't understand why we were called and neither could we. She was good as gold. So the nurses you see have then cause a bad atmosphere for no reason. Didn't help that her boyfriend when he turned up was a lump.

But I'm 'ard so it don't matter lol :box:

As for "the long fella" seen him in a gym a few times. Was always nice to speak to. Loves his boxing & West Ham. You should see him on a punch bag.
Is the long fellas reputation and notoriety in real life comparable to that in the book?

Not talking about Psychiatric hospitals. I'm talking about normal hospitals. It goes -ADs, Nurses, Sisters, Matrons. AD's wipes the bums and cleans 'em. As for blood, if it's on the floor, only the sister of that ward (not the cleaner) has to clean the fluids (piss, sick, blood, brown stuff ect ect) again ...if it's on the floor. If it's on the patients, the nurses deal with it.

The 'nurses' in a psych hospital, ARE security. Usually a lump in white with a syringe no?

As for Roy Shaw, I think we know he weren't a person you'd want to fool around with, or muck about with his ex-girlfriends; hence the reputation and book. No one said he was a vicar. What I was saying is that out of the 3 fellas we mentioned in the thread, he wasn't a bully. Just someone you'd wouldn't want to upset ...And who's girlfriend you just didn't date. That didn't make him a bully. Wasn't the right way to go about it, but in his eyes that was his bird. Mother of his kids. You don't have to be a mad person to feel angry if that happened to you. A bully is someone that clumps people for no reason or intimidates weaker folks.

He was convicted bank robber and ex-Broadmoor patient come bare-knuckle boxer for christ sake. What'd think he'd do when he found out his miss's was playing away! lol

Sorry mate - you worked in a very different hospital to the one I know.

NA-nurses help the nurses do the turns and cleans ... and the ward sister will get her hands dirty too ... and when things get busy .. so will the ward manager.
And things are always busy ..

And if there are any fluids on the floor .. the cleaners get asked first .. then NA`s ... then whatever band nurse is not busy.

How on earth could Meeking crawl through a dog flap? He's massive! I doubt he'd get through a door without a struggle.
