Olympic Schedule and Draw
Re: Olympic Schedule and Draw
I got tickets for lasrt night of boxing!
Re: Olympic Schedule and Draw
Artofwar it's not just a fact, I understand there might be better number 2's and 3's from some countries, but you still have to qualify, if not there would be 11 boxers from Thailand.
Any single boxer who qualifies for the Olympics is a top class amateur. Fact
If you disagree list the ones who are not ?

Re: Olympic Schedule and Draw
Yes you have to qualify, but not from a pool of every amateur in the world. Sure the fighters who qualify from the major amateur tournaments are normally very good, but the guy's who qualify from regional events in their part of the world often times are not up to par. They've qualified by beating opponants who are also not up to much. The guy Darren O'Neill beat yesterday is one such example.jessi wrote:Artofwar it's not just a fact, I understand there might be better number 2's and 3's from some countries, but you still have to qualify, if not there would be 11 boxers from Thailand.

It's not about listing names either, just watch the tournament. Watching Olympic boxing it is plain to see that a lot of boxers aren't really all that great, especially in the early rounds.

Freddie Evans on in a bit (4.15) with Josh Taylor tonight (8.30).
Re: Olympic Schedule and Draw
I've watched probably every final since Seoul 88, and about 50% of first round bouts in the last 6 olympics, there's not that many stoppages overall, I know where your coming from but think the standard all over the world gets better each olympics !ArtOfWar wrote:Yes you have to qualify, but not from a pool of every amateur in the world. How did Evans look?
Re: Olympic Schedule and Draw
Ok, didn't mean to state the obvious earlier, yesterday it was one of the main options but today I had to search for it, also try BBC I player, apparently every single moment from the Olympics is in there somewhere. Try to figure something out before 8:30pm, Josh Taylor is boxing the Brazilian guy who is mustard !Old bones Ian wrote:Cheers, i've been trying that, got freesat and it just comes up with no-signal and the bbc logo thing telling me to press the red button. Re: Olympic Schedule and Draw
Luke Campbell got a bye, I know it's not the same but that's still 3 from 3 weight divisions so far.saturday_kid wrote:Agogo and Evans? Who's the 3rd?jessi wrote:Evans wins 18-10, 3 out of 3 through to last 16 from GB

Evans looked good, great corkscrew upper cuts, he took a few himself though, the Algerian was quite impressive for a 19 year old !

thanks, i've googled the problem, and apparently its a problem for quite a few with Freesat, so i'm retuning my box for the other satellite settings, and hopefully this will give me all the BBC channels, just means mucking around with channel settings. Can't really complain as usually we get 30 mins of boxing at the end of a program, instead of this full coverage. I'll get sorted by 8.30

Re: Olympic Schedule and Draw
Irish boy through although I am not sure how the judges gave him the last round.
Re: Olympic Schedule and Draw
Nevermind 4 through. All 7 lads are through to the last 16. 4 got bye's and 3 have won there last 32 bouts.
Re: Olympic Schedule and Draw
Amazing progress since 2004 when a lonely single boxer went to athens. The set up looked superb on ringside the other night. Thumbs up to all involved.broomy7s wrote:Nevermind 4 through. All 7 lads are through to the last 16. 4 got bye's and 3 have won there last 32 bouts.
Re: Olympic Schedule and Draw
I was wondering if it was his name and fathers influence that got him there is he that good, best cuba has? Wouldnt be a huge surprise if there was some poor sod that was better but overlooked.yiddo14 wrote:I have only seen Savon in the worlds last year and it seemed like he could be thrown off his gameplan if the opponent comes in aggressive. If big Joshua can let it all hang out I think the Cuban will fold.jessi wrote:Hope your right, think his on Wednesday !yiddo14 wrote:Joshua can make an early statement with his match up. Re: Olympic Schedule and Draw
At the mo Savon is probably the best super heavy Cuba have, they have more talent at heavy
Re: Olympic Schedule and Draw
I'm going tonight, unfortunately no British boxers. Anyone who knows a bit more about the amateur scene than me know any in particular to keep an eye out for?
