You can't blame anyone here it's just a tragic inevitability when you've two guys hitting each other in the head. It's pure luck.
Regarding weights, I think Johnson weighed in at 10st5lb when they did the day-of-the fight weigh-in. So that's a good 10lb he put on in a day! Tall guy too so I'd imagine he did struggle to make the weight, but then again, he's been a career lightweight so has made the 9st9lb limit for years.
His legs weren't really there either and he took a lot of clean shots and I was thinking all the way through 'put your bloody hands up and move your head a bit'. It wasn't a savage beating he took but a steady pounding nonetheless and although I didn't think 'he's going to get a subdural hematoma' you don't like to see someone take a systematic beating like that. Very sad and fingers crossed he not only survives, but makes a recovery where he can lead a decent life.

I'm not getting into a slanging match with you fool. You don't give a damn about Johnson, you're just on here trying to score points with your pathetic knowledge. Grow up prat.Southpaw Stylist wrote:I know far more than you son. Sekkle your jaw...silkov wrote:Southpaw Stylist wrote: No it ain't. Gumshield in, brains out.
Where are your brains mate?... you're a prat who doesn't know what he's talking about.
Yeah, the same people that are saying that its partly Johnsons fault for fighting 'the wrong fight' would be calling him a pussy if he'd ran away instead or if he'd quit on his stool.csmith wrote:the irony of people on this boxing forum calling boxers for being "too brave"-i suppose if they quit they"d be cowards![]()

Sometimes fighters just can't seem to win in the fans eyes no matter what they do eg. Tszyu 'quitting' on his stool. I remember many people saying of Tszyu "Champions never quit, they should be carried out on their sheilds" etc etc.silkov wrote:Yeah, the same people that are saying that its partly Johnsons fault for fighting 'the wrong fight' would be calling him a pussy if he'd ran away instead or if he'd quit on his stool.csmith wrote:the irony of people on this boxing forum calling boxers for being "too brave"-i suppose if they quit they"d be cowards![]()

Yes exactly. As it is Johnson did try and box Chavez from the start of many of the rounds but he wasn't able to hold him off or use his legs to keep him away. I'm sure he would have loved to be able to box and move and try and beat Chavez that way if he could have.KOJOE90 wrote:Sometimes fighters just can't seem to win in the fans eyes no matter what they do eg. You're talking shit, I very much doubt anyone on here would call him a coward for quitting. I'd rather see a fighter quit than get his brains bashed in all night long.csmith wrote:the irony of people on this boxing forum calling boxers for being "too brave"-i suppose if they quit they"d be cowards![]()

Silkov, you are an idiot. Do a search and read the thread asking if Kostya Tsyzu had lost respect for 'quiting' on his stool. You haven't the slightest clue what you're babbling about.silkov wrote:Yeah, the same people that are saying that its partly Johnsons fault for fighting 'the wrong fight' would be calling him a pussy if he'd ran away instead or if he'd quit on his stool.csmith wrote:the irony of people on this boxing forum calling boxers for being "too brave"-i suppose if they quit they"d be cowards![]()

Your bleeding heart far-left liberal attitude is ohso typical of people watching on telly with no insight about Johnson's situation in the ring. The likes of you are the antithesis (and like so many opposites, you share many traits) to the Larry Merchant type of fan - a sniveling little toad who lives his masculine fantasies through the fighters, yet who has the complete arrogant bombastity to regard them as if they're expendable figurines in some bourgoise amusement. Unfortunately (as many reading this will know) there is a large market for this demographic, so I can well see HBO's point in using him.
Just because some of us don't agree with your weeping, feminine reaction, doesn't mean we deserve to be grouped with the likes of Merchant.
The point is this: Johnson is his own man; a thirty five year old man who makes his own decisions. Is this wrong? Okay... given the particulars of his career, which he should know better than anyone, it was complete madness doing what he did - standing in front of Chavez. Fair enough, as MW says, try and overpower him - because Chavez sure as hell didn't look 'natural' at the weight in there - but when it gets to round 5 or 6 and you haven't even made the slightest dent in the guy and he keeps coming in, doing the same attack over and over... why keep sticking your chin up in the air, meeting him head on and verbally goading him into a war after the bell? Especially when you're recieving three/four head-snapping flush shots every time??!!!
I swear this isn't some retrospect rant - this is actually what I was saying DURING THE FIGHT.
Complete suicide tactics. Utter lunacy.

You don't even know me mate. I've been to plenty of boxing matches and have a lot of experience of boxing and all I'm saying is that if Johnson could have boxed Chavez then he would have and if you opened your eyes and studied the fight you will see that at times he did try and box Chavez but couldn't.Manos de Oro wrote:Silkov, you are an idiot. Plenty of people criticised Tysu for quitting on his stool and I was pointing that out too.
As for my masculine fantasies I suspect that you're talking more from personal experience... but just because you may have got your head beat in a few times doesn't make you an expert mate. You're talking total shit.

Silkov, you have been exposed many times on this board as a vindictive little hypocrite. In American terms, you are a hater. You constantly slagged off Hatton pre-Tsyzu and then disappeared to the BOTP forum to continue over-rating your 80's heroes after he'd won. Then you reappear on this forum, surprise surprise, to berate Hatton in his first defence of his title. That shows a lot of class, bud.silkov wrote:You don't even know me mate. Also, I think people reading will look at your petty-insult-ridden, tetris-style posts, and then my logic, and make their own mind up who appears punchy.

I don't know what your problem is but you're the one whose got the hate here. Do you think it makes you a big man to criticise a fighter and try and blame him for getting injured?. Am I vindictive because I try and point out that they guy fought the best way he could.
As for Hatton thats a totally different matter and I'm entitled to my views.
Just because Hatton beat Tysu doesn't mean I can't question his fight with Maussa.
What is this BOTP Forum I'm supposed to have disapeared to????.
I'm touched that you've been keeping tabs on me but I didn't run away anywhere after the Hatton fight I was abroad! something that I mentioned at the time fool.
I think you should shut up because you're just showing how stupid you really are.
If anyone is the hypocritical hater here its you. You're just sad.

This is what always happens with you, you get exposed as the simpleton you are then ruin a thread by playing connect 4 with crappy insults. For example, you'll reply to this with another tired insult, then I'll reply, then you'll reply with another predictable naff insult, etc, etc. You've ruined/brought off-topic so many threads in the past doing this I'm surprised the mods haven't warned you about it.silkov wrote:What are you on man?.

Personally, I can see why some people would blame Johnson, a boxer, for fighting with Chavez. However I honestly don't believe trying to box and move would have served him that well. Chavez is more than just a brawler, he was very good at cutting the ring off and avoided many shots cleverly. Johnson still looked strong after the torrid opening couple of rounds and probably felt he could take over as the bigger man. He obviously never reasoned that Chavez would produce a career-best demonstration of world class conditioning. The guy just never let up.

You sad Jerkoff, your an expert in being a prick and that's about it.
You come on here spouting about how everyone here isn't entitled to their opinion, who made you the fornicating arbiter of all things boxing, who do you think you are Hugh fornicating McIlvanney?
I don't need to justify myself to you, I know more than enough about boxing to have an opinion whether you like it or not.
I don't get it, I say I'd rather see a fighter quit than get his brains punched out his ear, and that makes ME a clown?
Opinions are like arseholes, we all have one, and in my considered opinion, you ARE an arsehole.

You're the one that started with the insults just because I questioned you blaming a fighter for getting injured. Now you're crying for the mods... you really are pathetic.Manos de Oro wrote:This is what always happens with you, you get exposed as the simpleton you are then ruin a thread by playing connect 4 with crappy insults. Are you one of those hillbilly inbreds with a picture of your momma around your neck and 'DAD' tattooed on your arm so as you don't forget his name!??.
