Are the Olympic judges biased towards GB fighters?

What do you think?

Personally, I think the lad is right. I thought Taylor was very fortunate to come out with that score and Evans' match was closer than the cards too.

If so, is this inevitable anyway? (it does seem to happen in every big amateur tournament I've seen...not that it's right).

The judges, the crowd and the commontators are all biased, it is the London games, it happens all the time, remember the decision against Roy Jones against the Korean, revenge for some bad decesions the Koreans got in the USA against Americans beforehand, the crowd will help the home fiighters to fight better, but also the crowds reaction will have a bearing on the judges decisions to some extent, judging in the Ams is inconsistant at the best of times and sometimes when watching fights you can't believe the scoring, even with 2 foriegn fighters are boxing each other.

It's the same at every single major amateur boxing championships. It's not because it's in England. It was the same in Beijing, Athens, Sydney, Atlanta, Barcelona, Seoul etc etc....although I will say some of the decisions in games gone by have been outrageously biased.

I personally thought Taylor won - but I would probably have had it closer than it was given.

Didn't see the Evans fight so can't comment.

I think the fans do help as obviously every punch by a British boxer is cheered but there is no noise when they ship one - similar to pro boxing in that respect.

I am getting rather pissed off with Woodhall's commentary. It isn't his fault, he is part of the camp. But it does sound like he is ferociously masturbating under the table over any work the GB lad does, but blatantly ignores what's coming back.

As for judging, I won't mind the benefit of the doubt going to the GB lad, but if it get's to the level of stupidity, then I will find any victory very hollow

Conceicao definitely won in my opinion and I thought that even with the British commentary, which can definitely influenece you if your not paying proper attention. The third round especially was a big one for the Brazilian. He scored a lot of points in that round and had Taylor on the back foot.

I noticed the US has been awarded a couple of gift decisions, and one was being helped by a referee.

The UK however hasn't been favored, at least not yet. Taylor dealt with the crude aggression of the Brazilian and deserved to win the decision.

To be honest I hope they are biased. towards the British. Every Olympics it favors the home fighters so why not ours.

With these big gloves and standing eight counts it's easier said than done to leave no doubt. Has there even been a stoppage in any match yet?

I heard one lad on the train coming back from London on Saturday night say, "I've seen 12 bouts and not one stoppage...not even a bloody nose!"

I remember just one. It was the American middleweight against an Armenian, the Armenian may well have been just ahead and was dropped with 30 to go, got up then the Yank went over and dropped him again with 0 on the clock. Ref sent them both to their corners and it was announced as a stoppage for the American

I thought all three British lads deserved the decisions. I was at the Evans fight, no way did he lose that against a very decent opponent.

Anyone hoping to see blood and guts is barking up the wrong tree. The IOC is never going to allow Olympic boxing to be like that - even as technical as it is, one serious injury or death could spell the end of boxing. Not to mention, cuts could really mess up a short tournament, which is why I don't believe the headgear is going to go away either.

There will be knockdowns tomorrow with the big fellas though, I can promise that.

As yiddo says there's a history of this. The Irish lad who got Silver was jobbed by the Chinese boxer in the final (in my opinion) and we obviously know about Roy Jones Jr in Seoul. I just hope none of our guys get any horrors like those guys did, a close one going to one of our guys because the crowd are going nuts when he gets close to landing and being silent when the opponent lands flush is ok, but I'd hate to see a boxer win by a mile and lose to one of the GB guys.

:D

I'm with you...if one of our British fighters gets hammered, yet the judges give him the Gold, I will find the whole thing distasteful. Let's just see a fair Olympics where everybody gets what they deserve, and our Gold medal winners are truly deserving

Our amateurs get robbed on a regular basis

Even up until the lead up of these games our boxers were robbed left right and center

This was a regular occurance...

Gaucha, the USA fighter absolutely drilled the Armenian and smashed him over twice for the stoppage.

Great fight if you if missed it.

The scoring is completely different in Amateur to Pro.. If your watching a pro fight then both the GB fighter may have lost on points but it's not scored that way. It's more about technical ability and scoring shots Josh Taylor done the cleaner work caught the Brazilian flush a lot of times and only got caught a couple. I've not seen the Evans so can't comment but Taylor definitely deserved the win
