Barrera bests Peden
Typical type of fight between two former sparring partners - mundane all the way through then they let it go in the last round to keep the crowd happy. Oh well.
Barrera didn't look to get out first gear and took away Peden's speed really nicely. The Aussie didn't look to have much of a defence so the legendary Mexican could score when he felt like it without taking much risk. Class C fight, IMO.
As for the main support, I actually agreed with Glenn McCrory. Moseley can hang with the biggest fish and make it at least semi-competitive, but he's definitely regressed since he first moved to welter and may well get beat himself. He can still make some money in a PPV match though (not that I think he deserves it, or even will win).
Cruz could've hurt Moseley if he'd set up his punches with more imagination - it was just 'walk straight forward with the hands up and telegraph the right', or 'walk straight forward with the hands up and simply walk into a clinch'. It was like he had his finger on the trigger but instead of closing it the finger kept slipping off, and he didn't know how to stop it. A WBO shot against Margarito is what he should go for next.

Mosley-Margarito should happen next, i wouldn't put Mosley in with Judah though i think Zab's handpeed would be too much for Mosley as he is now, Shane only fights in spurts and can't maintain the blinding attacks of old. I think he is a defeat waiting to happen and will never be the same fighter he was a few years ago.
As for the main event it was a dull affair, Barrera always in control and Peden unable to find the openings it just digressed into a sparring session, even the fake "bad blood" Peden tried to insert mid rounds after the bell didn't convince much. Overall it turned out how most expected it too, Barrera-Pacquiao II must surely be around the corner.

I love watching Barrera take a top contender to school. His defense and countering are truly a wonder to see.steve689 wrote:Mosley-Margarito should happen next, i wouldn't put Mosley in with Judah though i think Zab's handpeed would be too much for Mosley as he is now, Shane only fights in spurts and can't maintain the blinding attacks of old. Unfortunately Pacquiao-Barrera won't happen anytime soon, Pac-Morales is still on for January. I'd love to see Pac-Barrera2 to see how Barrera can apadt to his stiffist stylistic challenge - a super fast, pressure fighting in and out southpaw.

As small as Mosley looked at light-middle that's where he should have stayed. He fought hard and consistantly in his second losing effort to Winky Wright. Now back at welter he just can't keep up any pressure, although at least he wasn't gasping this time down the stretch I suppose.
Barrera really needs to get revenge over Pacquiao. Lets face it the guy battered him. Failing that a Chavez fight would be a lovely match on paper.

I've heard it said that MAB wants no part of a Manny rematch.
I don't want to believe that as he truly is one of the best boxers currently active. You'd think he'd be confident of working Pacquiao out as Marquez did.
This weekends fight was totally onesided so lacked any drama but i'll never tire of watching masterclasses as sweet as that

I don't know about improved Nick, he could almost certainly do better in a rematch although I'm still not sure Barrera relishes any kind of war anymore.
It's highly possible that the thoroughly unreasonable Pac-Man could take Barrera's heart again. It would be a massive fight.
Pacquiao v Morales II doesn't really need to happen. Pacquiao v Barrera II definitely does.

Barrera really showed what a cold hearted bastard he can be ( in the best possible way, of course
) - he apparently considers Peden a friend, I hear, and yet with the fight in the bag, he moves in and tries to take Robbie's head off and knock him cold in the last round.
Wouldn't want to piss him off would you...
That story Darke related made me laugh out loud, about the brave/deluded Richie Wenton requesting punchers gloves when he came over to fight Barrera - to which Richie's trainer interrupted: "no it's alright, we don't want the punchers gloves thanks!"

Late at night I walked into a hotel bar in south Wales last year, and noticed a intense looking guy sitting at the bar by himself.
Recognised him, but couldn't place him - and he didn't look like the type to engage in some light hearted chit chat. He eventualy left, and after awhile I decided he must be a boxer I'd seen on TV.
I asked the landlord, and he said he was an ex-boxer as far as he knew - his name was Paul Lloyd, and he'd been staying at the hotel for a few weeks, working on some railway line construction.
Hell of a long way from the Albert Hall.

How many people have gone from fighting Marco Antonio Barrera to facing Peter Buckley next match?
Tough for Wenton, I can't begin to fathom what it's like to carry on boxing after having brought about a man's death in the ring.
I get really pissed off with American crowds booing, especially when it's someone like Barrera. He's given them blood and guts over the years, and to assume that he's going to give it a show like that every time is daft. They don't appreciate the artistry. Granted, Peden wasn't doing much but booing just seems to point to ignorance of the sport and a goldfish-like attention span.

When I was at Hatton Vs Tszyu we had this yank Mr Bean lookalike sitting next to me in his Gatti-Ward T-shirt and at the end of every round of the Barnes Vs Okine clash (decent fight) he was standing up and booing for all he was worth, if it wasn't for the following main event I would have sparked him there and then (and if I wasn't a pacifist).
As you say Coconut its ignorant, why can't the Americans appreciate the artistry and skill of it all.
Any ideas why Cricket has never caught on in America??

Barrera struggles with speed, no doubt about it. Schooled twice by Junior Jones, and I think it was the handspeed of Pacquaio which shocked him.Kilburn wrote:I liked the bit about "Barrera's weaknesses: Lacks a sense of humour".
I reckon Barrera can improve on the performance, but he did try and blaze back at Pacquaio but just couldn't cope with the handspeed.
Maybe he would try and counter more cautiously in a rematch, but he hasn't got the ability Marquez has in that regard.
Morales won because he was able to hurt him from range with his long punches.
First of all, Barrera v Peden was great to watch. I felt Peden would give him trouble but Marco boxed beautifully. Much better than, say, watching Winky-Tito jab clinic: Barrera has a full repertoire.
I think Barrera looked like hell in the introductions for Pacquiao. Not surprisingly he looked dire in the fight even tho Pac was sharp.
but Pacquiao's going back some and top drawer fighters Marquez and Morales know what to expect. The extra weight doesn't help MP either. Maybe Barrera can adjust. if marco can take that straight left away, counter, take the sting out of him and then get those combinations going...
however, i see Manny losing to Morales again. if that happens he won't have had a big fight win since late '03 & this will really affect him. could end up out of the picture relatively speaking
i want to see Barrera in with Jesus Chavez and Zahir Raheem
