It's more about technical ability and scoring shots Josh Taylor done the cleaner work caught the Brazilian flush a lot of times and only got caught a couple. I've not seen the Evans so can't comment but Taylor definitely deserved the win
Yes I know how the contests are scored, thanks. I thought Taylor lost though maybe not as clearly as big Josh did.

A little favoritism for sure but that's understandable. The crowd influence boxing fights often and it often leads to poor judgement.

Joshua was pretty much handily beaten tonight though. Probably the worst decision of the tournament. Felt bad for the Cuban. I had him quite clearly winning by at least 5. He scored the far more cleaner shots and picked Joshua off at times.

Can see us getting a few gold medals for sure. The judges are behind GB so its going to be tough to defeat GB fighters. Joshua will probably have to be starched if you want to beat him.

Definately agree about Joshua. He got a gift and the Cuban, Savon, has to be gutted. I had the Cuban up by at least 6 and he should have been declared the winner, for sure. Joshua was pretty easily picked off and outboxed and I do agree that there is a bit of bias here. Not really different to whoever hosts the Olympics, to be fair.

So I expect a few Golds, for sure, and I think Joshua is being marked down as one. So anyone needing to beat him, like you Cas, I believe, has to knock him out.

Alan Green is incredibly biased, as is Woodhall although he actually made a comment that Big Josh was lucky to be ahead after 2 rounds and then was very quiet after the decision, which says it all.

Has any of the GB boys lost a round yet ? I don't think they have, the judges are terrible, not only do they seem to be helping the our boys, but also seem to be giving higher ranked fighters decisions to keep them in the competition against underdogs, the referee who kicked out the Iranian in only the second round, taking points off him 3 times in just the second round after he was in front after round 1, some of the australians have been hard done by, last night Joshuar was very lucky to get the win against the brilliant Cuban, it spoils the fights because everytime you think you know the result after every round, you are totally wrong nearly everytime, they had a young 17 year old who looked like he had won every round, but lost the decision, this is what I hate about the amateurs, so many fighters benefit from dodgy decisions along the way to win medals.

If you look up "robbed in boxing" in the dictionary it says "Roy Jones Seoul 1988"
That's incomparable to the last 24 years, it was so bad they even gave him the Val barker award which has never been given to any silver medalist before !

Jones was the silver medalist to get it, but two bronze medalists have gotten it also.

Antony Joshua lost that fight clearly last night. He was comprehensively out boxed. I hope the lad goes on to do well but that was a joke.

Awful decision last night, arguably the worst of the tournament.

Watched the fight three times and there's no way you can score that fight to Anthony Joshua. Savon was relaxed from the outset and set some wonderful traps which Joshua couldnt resist falling into.

Have fighters and coaches done their homework on our super-heavy because he was largely an unknown quantity when travelling to the World's last year. He'll definitely medal but he'll need to tighten his defence up if he's to collect gold.

In answer to the thread title, Yes, it appears so. Joshua clearly lost that fight last night. There is an argument he may have done the cleaner work but he got hit more times than his opponent, its as simple as that. Savon is very unlucky to have lost that one. Even Richie Woodhall struggled to play the result down. If he says it could go either way you can take it that the away fighter has won handily :)

I think the judges are just crap, more than anything - or the scoring system is just too complicated.

You've got a second to press your button after the scoring punch lands, and your colleagues have to do the same.... so if one of them is concentrating more on the action rather than their buttons it's inevitable that mistakes occur.

Hence why combinations rarely receive multiple marks etc.

The Aussie who 'lost' to the Azerbaijani put his shots together nicely, doubling the jab and mixing in the back hand too....

The Japanese lad won his fight easily too.... and the DQ was a shambles.

I think it's just incompetence, magnified by a frankly unworkable scoring system.

Like most, I thought the judges got it wrong in the Joshua fight last night. Although having only watched it the once my feeling at the time was that it was fairly close and not as wide as some have suggested above me.

Hopefully he's learnt from that, I gather he fights the Chinese bloke next? From what I saw the Chinese seems pretty static, so hopefully Joshua will use plenty of movement and his jab to win comfortably. The Chinese bloke did look to have a bit of pop though so certainly won't be easy.

I don't think last nights fight was as bad a decision as everyone is making out, although I agree I think he lost, only by two or three points IMO, mainly due to the last forty seconds.

As for the Japanese fella, thought that was harsh, how did the Azerbijan fella score ten points in the last round? He was on the deck for half of the round.

Joshua wasn't a robbery as some are saying, but Savon deserved to win.

thought Savon outboxed and outfought our lad, although did land some nice shots of his own.

Joshua got his work out against the Chinese guy i reckon, thought he looked think business taking out the Aussie - strong as an ox, really composed and put his punches together nicely.

Big strong lumbering types are ideal for Joshua who can move a bit himself for a big lad. Savon was the worst type of fighter he could have faced. Still think he allowed the Cuban too much room to work. I wanted him to jump all over him fom the off and not let him settle.
Savon isn't the sturdiest.

How old is Savon? Great footwork on the fella; very light-footed.

Feel pretty sorry for Savon. He took rounds 2 and 3 fairly comfortably by my viewing. I don't think the judges are just biased towards GB though, judging by a couple of fights earlier in the night.

Roy Jones jr has got to be the worst result ever, he gave a one sided beating to the Korean for the whole fight, got to be the most one sided final ever, even the Korean fighter was shocked when he was announced has the winner, I remember watching it and admiring his quality throughout.

Savon won the last round very big and also won the others, Joshua face said it all after the final bell. Joshua has real potential, he has fast hands for a big guy, but he just walks up to his opponent in straight lines, a good boxer should out box him, it most likely won't happen on the score cards, I think we are looking at a record medal haul here and some bad feeling among'st the rest of the world towards us afterwards, then watch our fighters get robbed in the future abroad.

Didnt see the fight heard it was close. Is this right im not too hot on amatuer stuff, two standing counts is the same as two scoring left jabs in the scoring system?

Or do you geta bit extra for a count because it seems odd that a fast accurate jab is scored the same as a well placed big right that makes you wobble and get a count
