In the second round if i do not make a mistake, the scores were 4 judges gave for Dalakliev and 1 gave even. It was the best round for Balla. He is very tough oponent for Dalakliev, both met three montsh ago in Begrade and the score was even and Detelin won by more landed punches.

Bulgaria is 4 wins from 4 matches until now.

If there is someone from the forum in London, lets say hey, I am there during Bulgarian matches.

That rest didn't last long, as Shimizu was robbed today.

Good to hear from you ogii, congrats on the success so far for Bulgaria. Wish I was there :( Tervel Pulev looked in good form.

What is your overall impression of the tournament so far?

Shimizu was battering Abdulhamidov in the 3rd, and the Azeri fell down over and over, but Shimizu only won the round 12-10 and lost by 5. Even if the IOC doesn't want to encourage knockdowns, you'd think adding a 2-point score for a knockdown would at least prevent this falling/stalling tactic. Shmizu, who supposedly got a bit lucky against Dogboe, now gets really unlucky.
the ref DID give him a warning for the falling down tactic. Shimizu being up only 12-10 in that round is atrocious.

Yeah, I hadn't realized he had been warned. Abdulhamidov should have been DQ'd then - it was certainly more egregious than what Mazaheri was DQ'd for.

I watched the third round of the Shimizu-Abdulhamidov fight again, and I didn't think the scoring was quite as bad it first seemed. Shimizu landed almost nothing in the first two minutes of the round and could have been down 3 or 4 points. He definitely landed some sharp shots in the final minute, but he also missed a lot, and Abdulhamidov did exchange on a few occasions. Abdulhamidov's problem seemed to be almost entirely conditioning, rather than getting punched out.

However, the ref should have DQ'd him. He also tried to get a second break to 'fix' his headgear, which was denied, but he clearly wanted out and the ref should have obliged him.

Maybe I'll watch it one more time and try to get an actual score. I'd be interested in seeing other's scores if they have a chance.

It's been overturned on appeal - the Japanese fighter goes through "by stoppage". :o :D

I just watched it and Abdulhamidov won the 1st and 2nd rd and the 1st 2 minutes of the 3rd and then he fell all apart. The ref did give him a warning but he kept leaning in to hold and Shimizu would step back and Abdulhamidov would fall and then he wouldn't wipe his gloves looking to rest. That would have been time to stop the bout and call it RSC. As far as the points go, I don't think Shimizu landed enough in the last minute to win on points so if it was overturned, that was a good decision.

I guess the Azeri gold-medal plot can go back to bed for now. I'm gratified they overturned the Shimizu result. It is really necessary to not allow fighters to stall like that, and so I'm happy they have a process to handle it. The official ruling was that Abdulhamidov should have received three standing eight counts.

I scored the first round of the Joshua-Savon fight and I had Joshua up by 1 point. The next two rounds certainly looked more favorable to Savon, but I was having some issues with my stream. It really changes your perspective on the fights when you try to score them - you remove all the impressionistic backfilling you can do with the 10 point-must.

In that vein JMac, how do you think the officiating has been so far? Did you see the Mazaheri disqualification?

Joshua got his ears boxed off that 2nd and 3rd round. Should have lost by at least 3, more realistically 4 or 5. I feel bad for Savon.

Besides that it was the right thing to overturn the decision with Abdulhamidov-Shimizu bout, there may have been extra incentive on the part of AIBA to show that they were not being bribed by the Azeri's.
As for the officiating, I thought it was looking good from what I saw up to yesterday. I did watch the bout with the Cuban and Iranian that ended up with DQ. It was quick DQ by the German ref. He also gave a warning to the Cuban early in the 1st rd and the Iranian was holding like crazy so I guess he just followed the rules. Usually for non harm fouls, you give a few extra cautions and give the boxer the look that says "no more or I give warning". I hate when boxers do like the Iranian did and just start holding instead of boxing. He would have kept doing it for as long as he could have gotten away with it so at the end of the day, the ref did the right thing and hopefully sent a message to the other boxers to not do that crap. As for the bout with Joshua and the Cuban, I thought the Cuban did enough to win but I have seen so many times where the host nation gets the favoritism.

The cuban Savon got robbet against the british guy. He lost the first round by 1 point. Round two was even, but in the last round Savon outscored the brit by 4 points. ROBBERY!

I don't have the chance to watch all the boxing, cos i must cover other sports with Bulgarian participation. But from what i saw the judging is better then the previous two Olympics. I expect that they would give to home favorite Luke Campbell some edge in the even fight against Italian guy, but Luke must fight all the way to secure the win. It's good for boxing. However there were some cases that aren't correct. For example second round of Beterbiev - Hunter match was given even, but the Russian scored so many clear shots.

I didn't see any of the fights this morning but I went back and scored the Khytrov-Ogogo fight.

I had it 5-5 in the first, 9-6 Khytrov in the 2nd, and 6-4 Khytrov in the third, for a 20-15 advantage for the Ukrainian. Of course, the judges ultimately just got to choose the winner pro-style, and they picked Ogogo, so complaints about the scoring system aren't too convincing in this case. It was a fairly close fight, if not watching it as a pro fight, but I certainly think Ogogo was much more likely to get credit for his punches.

Apparently Khytrov and Michael Hunter were victims of addition errors, and should've won on countback.

If anyone can show all 5 judges scorecards then we can now. But they only show 3. Or where can we see 5?

The problem I have with Ogogo winning is okay they are level on points and level on countback but when you go to the judges to pick the winner, how can they pick Ogogo when he had two standing counts. If its level shouldnt you go for the harder cleaner puncher.
I had Savon winning as well but not Hunter-both fights were close but we are not sitting at ringside.

A bad decision tonight. The scoring in the Gausha vs Vijender bout was horrible. Gausha clearly won the 1st round by 2 or 3 points and won the 2nd and 3rd by at least 4 each and yet the judges gave the 1st to Vijender by 1 point and called the 2nd and 3rd rounds even. India received a big gift just because Vijender is a superstar in India. Complete BS!!!

The Russian boxing federation report that Beterbiyev was suffering from mental exhaustion before his fight with Hunter. They are very upset with the Vodopyanov decision as well.
For the most part the refereeing and scoring is good-it just seems to go awry in some close decisions. The BBC commentators felt very strongly that Atoyev lost and also couldnt understand the first round scoring in the Gausha fight but that seems to be the pattern in the contentious fights the first round scoring is awry. There also has to be a better way to decide contests that finish on level points.

Team USA needs to have Warren and Spence win tomorrow. I do think both will win their bouts tomorrow. Then both need to win one more to win medals.

I am still hopeful that Team USA can win a bunch of medals.

I just watch the replay and Gausha definitely won the 1st rd but the judges had him losing 4-3. I thought the 2nd was close and he won the 3rd by 1-2 pts. Bad decision.
