2012 OLYMPIC GAMES LONDON - Schedule and Results [R]
Re: 2012 OLYMPIC GAMES LONDON - Schedule and Results [R]
Marlen has an easy draw and only needs 1 win to get bronze so it is imperative for Team USA that she gets at least the bronze.
Warren needs to medal. USAB and USOC will have an easier time convincing boxers to stick around for a 2nd or 3rd Olympics if Warren actually wins a medal in his 3rd Olympics.
Claressa will win a medal in my opinion. The question is whether she can defeat Marshall in London to get to the gold medal bout. Favoritism, bias, being affected by the crowd or whatever you want to call it does play a role and Marshall will definitely have the home ring advantage.
Errol Spence has a great shot at bronze and then if he can improve against the Kazakh boxer versus the bout in the 2011 Worlds, he has a shot at gold.
Queen Underwood has a tough draw. Now is the time for her to prove all the critics wrong and to show that she was the best USA boxer and belongs in the Olympics. She needs to medal to do so.
You can see there are a lot of ifs above so getting 5 medals is extremely unlikely at this point, but still possible. A minimum of 3 is crucial. With the addition of women's boxing I feel that 2 medals would be the equivalent of 2008's outcome so to do better, USA needs 3 or more.

Wow, Rau'shee Warren lost something like 19-18. He won the 1st round I think by 3 or 4 points but stopped punching in the 2nd and wasn't much better in the 3rd. Unbelievable.
Re: 2012 OLYMPIC GAMES LONDON - Schedule and Results [R]
Not to put too much pressure on Errol Spence but he is the only hope left for USA men's boxing. If he doesn't medal, it will be the worse showing ever by team USA.
Re: 2012 OLYMPIC GAMES LONDON - Schedule and Results [R]
Heartbreaking for Warren, I can barely stand it. I hope he goes on to have a great pro career.
Re: 2012 OLYMPIC GAMES LONDON - Schedule and Results [R]
Maybe this is the proverbial "straw that broke the camel's back" that will finally shake up USA Boxing and have the changes made that need to be done, let alone stop the revolving door with its leadership. How much longer is this kind of performace and lack of preparation going to be acceptable? The changes in the scoring system by 2016 may help the sport, but that is only part of the problem.
Re: 2012 OLYMPIC GAMES LONDON - Schedule and Results [R]
Spence just got royally screwed by the judges. He won every round and clearly won the 3rd when Krishan Vikas was constantly holding and should have received a warning. Spence landed a lot of clean shots in the 3rd and yet somehow the judges had Vikas winning the round 4-3. Complete BS!!!

I think under pro scoring, Spence wins easy. Under the amateur scoring, it was close. The India boxer had good defense and I didn't think a lot of clean punches landed on him but mostly on the arms or body which does not get counted that easily. Spence definitely threw more punches but I just didn't see them land and snap he head back. I thought the other guy was able to land some blows that were easier for the judges to see. Either way, it sucks for USAB. Hopefully we can only go up from here. I thought we had reached the lowest point in Beijing but it just got lower.Dennis wrote:Spence just got royally screwed by the judges. Spence won that, and he certainly won round 3.
Re: 2012 OLYMPIC GAMES LONDON - Schedule and Results [R]
spence did get robbed. kid is strong and will fight to the end. teddy atlas comments of raushee was unfair. atlas tried to glorify one boxer while he was gettin his butt roughed up. for this team to come home with zer0000000 medals tells you alot of whats going on. someone gonna tell it.

Glad Spence got some justice, although he could easily get screwed again (and they did it because of the ref not issuing warnings or some BS technicalities)......and the USA boxers aren't the only boxers gettin screwed...
But its still been a horrible Olympics for the USA Men's Boxing...
I thought Terrell Gausha could have got the W the other day but it was close...Diaz and Ramirez just lost to better boxers, Browne folded in the last round of his bout where was his drive and hunger? Hunter gased, Breazale was outclassed, its just real disappointing..
And some wonder why USABoxing puts fighters through the Trials and other competition just to make the team...USABoxing looks pretty bad right now
I really hope the ladies do some butt-kicking...

good job by the aiba gettin spence back in. well deserved. gausha did good l thought. browne, like against naim terbunga, has nervous breakdowns when things get ruff. its been said many times when the officials and the politics cant save fighters and they on their own and cant be helped and cheated for themselves........all in all, lm rootin for spence. we all are.
Re: 2012 OLYMPIC GAMES LONDON - Schedule and Results [R]
I'm glad that Spence now has the win, he definitely won the bout and deserved the victory. Krishan Vikas was holding so much in the 3rd round it was ridiculous.
Gausha's bout should get overturned too as he definitely deserved the victory in his bout.
Did AIBA investigate the incorrect countback scoring in the Hunter-Beterbiev bout? They have one more day to fix it.

I was told by somebody there that the article about the wrong score was wrong and that they did not yet remove the low and high score and that the final score was correct.Dennis wrote:

I was told that they dont remove the low and the high scores anymore. Just the two scores that deviate from the average the most.JMac wrote:I was told by somebody there that the article about the wrong score was wrong and that they did not yet remove the low and high score and that the final score was correct.Dennis wrote:

When the final score is tied, they remove high and low and count the rest. You are talking about how they score each round.T Duquette wrote:I was told that they dont remove the low and the high scores anymore. The countback scoring shown on the http://www.London2012.com website does not show the 2 judges scores that weren't used each round. It only shows the scores of the 3 judges for each boxer that were counted. Adding those scores Hunter won by 1 point on the countback tiebreaker.

Oh, I see. The whole "removing scores" thing is retarded. If you win on 3 of the 5 judges cards and win on total points how could you lose a fight? I like the adjustment to the ESS but the removal of scores ruins it.

Russo-Larduet was a farce; I can't recall witnessing more egregious holding in a round.
Russ Anber called both Russo and the referee 'cowards.'

Errol Spence just lost a tough one...I thought the Russian should have lost a point for all that damn holding but I think the right man won...
And 16-11? Thought it was even closer than that...
Either way a tough end to the worst Olympic showing ever for the USA...guess changes will be made...

Re: 2012 OLYMPIC GAMES LONDON - Schedule and Results [R]
I give Spence credit. He knew he was down going into the 3rd so he went for it. He changed and started to try to land something big. It cost him in the 3rd though as he opened up and got hit. He knew that he wasn't going to win by doing what he had been doing so he went for broke. He is a tough fighter and will make a very good pro.
