only ever met 2 that were a bit arrogant...

one was lennox who can be as arrogant as he wants as far as i am concerned...the other one was audley.... he was just a complete ball sack.

Its the same old though, is'nt it? I was a child when i got Lennox's autograph at Hull City Hall and he was great. Seen him at the Klitschko-Haye weigh in and you would have needed to beat up about ten security to get to say hello. Its the same with Ricky. Is it the fighter, or the people around them?

on this occasion when i met lennox i was lucky enough to have performed the blag of the century with spud and we had credentials for the williams klitschko fight in vegas...as promoters!!

and still he was shirty and questioning why i wanted a glove signed, and he would only sign it personally to me...which suited me!!

guess he is fed up of seeing his handy work on ebay!!.. Rahman on the other hand was an absolute gent.

I met Steve Collins the other day, at the Klitschko film premiere. A friend gave me tickets so I went along to the drinks reception before hand and Steve was there at the bar. Had a beer and a friendly chat with him - told him I'd heard Eubank was coming and hoped there wouldn't be trouble, he was laughing and said he loved Chris, and that his wife referred to him as Chris Ourbank, as those pay days had put his kids through college. Nice guy & seemed pleased to be recognised.

Ive always found journo's writers to be really sound. I get on with Steve Lillis, bunce, Ian mcneilly (most of the time), terry 'sweet donator' Dooley, andy wake, glyn leach and tris Dixon really well. I even like Danny flexon. Shaun Browns a nice chap too.

Genuinely nice guys with great banter.

I have met many arsehole fans to be honest, the type who just walk up to people and shove a fag packet or other crappy piece of paper in boxers face saying "sign this mate" regardless of who or what the boxers are talking to or about.

Calzaghe is a nice guy but quiet and introverted, really not confident when he is in the spotlight out of the ring.
Piper has got a very over inflated view of his intelligence and boxing ability.

I read Joe Calzaghe's book a while ago. It seemed he'd had a terrible time growing up. He was bullied for years as a nipper. Going by the book he says the kids in the whole town turned against him. His best and only friend was his dad. Surely that can leave big psychological scares on a person. Remember, he's made his fame through fighting - not being on Blue Peter!

If your naturally introverted as a person, being in the lime light won't change that.

met a few in my time....good lads Matt Skelton let me iview him ringside at the York hall on his own time impromptu, Hatton was fine when I met him but it was a press conf, shook Big lenns hand as he was leaivng a bar in piccadilly, Marco barerra at hatton castillo stopped for two mins for a chat, Kev mitchell top lad. Met haye before he was real famous at equinox on a Joey pyle show. Small was boxing when he was part of the team, he was cool and calm and charming actually. Not quite sure whathappened.

The only two i have a gripe with are Calzaghe who seemed alloof and disinterested and Team Haye who wouldnt give me an iview pre Thompson but wanted one after the defeat.
I didnt oblige.

Though I dint think that was haye personally, I was privvy to an email sent to me in error bemoaning the fact Adam didnt want the iview to fo ahead....believe what you will no great shakes really though at the time i was a bit pissed off.

Spoke to Barry Mcuigan on the phone when I did work experience at Boxing News about 100 years ago, He was calling to speak to Harry Mullan! Was really nice and pleased to chat to a kid who was mad about boxing.

Jim McDonnell I met by virtue of training at St Pancras, straight up bloke really.

Have heard negative things about Hatton from people I know in Manchester but to be honest took with a pinch of salt based on my opinion of the people who told me.

Everyone I've met from boxing world is sound.

I was lucky enougth to meet Lennox at the Haye/Harrison weigh in as I worked at The Lowry at the time. I was able to get at the side of the stage when it all happened and was actually stood and talking to George Groves who is a good lad. When I heard Lennox was coming he was surrounded by 4 huge security guards. However It would be my only opportunity to meet him so I shouting his name he actually stopped smiled and he shook my hand. Seemed a top bloke and I couldn't believe how big he was. Even though Adam Booth was getting swamped by journalists I was shake his hand able to tell him how much I liked his shirt 'No you can't' for those who forgot a twist on Fraudleys 'YES I CAN'

Yeah Gomez is a bit mad but was approachable I met him at Moore V Piccirillo me and my mate asked him about fighting Khan and he said' He doesn't even hit hard just throws a lot of punches ' he kept complaining how cold it was as he was well in to training for fighting Ricky Burns. What was funny later on I was in a huge line for the toilets. Then he shouts 'F*ck this line lets p*ss in the sinks' then guys start using the sinks hahahaha.

Calzaghe, a pudendum? There's a surprise.

It's the general consensus round South Wales to be honest. I was in Smiths in Newport reading Boxing News and Joe came in to pick one up. Another guy was buying a boxing mag at the same time and asked Joe to sign in it. By Joe's reaction you'd think the guy had just asked to shag his wife.

I've met his ex-wife Mandy a couple of times. I worked at Carphone Warehouse at the time and she got her phones from there. She on the other hand is one of the nicest down to earth people you could ever meet. I get talking to her about Joe's career and fights and was happy to spend 20-30 mins chatting each time we met. And although she was his ex at the time, she didn't bad mouth him once. The only thing she did say that made me laugh was that although he's listed as 6" and likes to tell people that, he's actually 5"11!

I remember for the B-Hop fight presser Calzaghe's image was shown on a projector next to stats showing his weight and height (5'11"). Joe then angrily interrupted FW who then explained to the confused journos that 'he's 6 foot, apparently'.

Met Holyfield in Waterstones, heard he was a difficult character to communicate with because of accent and arrogance but that couldn't have been further from the reality. Great guy who made the effort with everybody and doesn't take himself as seriously as you'd expect.
