Steve Kim (maxboxing) attacks Darren Barker

Post by whiskey »

copied off livefight - thought it was a bit obnoxious for him to jump on barker like that.

Steve Kim ‏@stevemaxboxing @DannyFlexen - is he as boring as Darren Barker? If so, pass

Darren barker ‏@DarrenBarker82
@stevemaxboxing luckily for me Im not in this TOUGH sport to impress you but to provide for my family and I'm succeeding in doing that!

Steve Kim ‏@stevemaxboxing @DarrenBarker82 - imagine what you could've done that night if you wouldve taken some chances and tried to actually win?

Darren barker ‏@DarrenBarker82
@stevemaxboxing it's a lot more difficult actually getting in the ring then it is writing about it so whatever you say hot shot!

Steve Kim ‏@stevemaxboxing
@DarrenBarker82 - as long as your never going to be back in American airwaves.... good.

Darren barker ‏@DarrenBarker82
@stevemaxboxing well that's not what I'm hearing so again luckily for me you won't have to watching or report on the fight!

Steve Kim ‏@stevemaxboxing
@DarrenBarker82 - no lucky me, I don't have to watch you, actually...

Steve Kim ‏@stevemaxboxing
@DarrenBarker82 - don't disagree, but still, I'm glad I never have to see you again in the States. Now ,Macklin....

Darren barker ‏@DarrenBarker82
@stevemaxboxing well when me and macklin finally get it on I will find you and laugh in your face when I beat him which is a certainty!

Steve Kim ‏@stevemaxboxing
@DarrenBarker82 - which is fine, but he's back fighting in the States on a big show because of his effort vs Martinez, I applaud him

Darren barker ‏@DarrenBarker82
@stevemaxboxing and hbo want me back out but I had an hip opoeration which has kept me out! Plus macklins with dibella (a US promoter!)

Steve Kim ‏@stevemaxboxing
@DarrenBarker82 - HBO wants you back? Really? Says who? You and Martinez did a low rating- that's a fact

Darren barker ‏@DarrenBarker82
@stevemaxboxing it's fact iv sat down with them! I was an unknown quantity before that fight but not anymore!

Steve Kim ‏@stevemaxboxing
@DarrenBarker82 - lets hope on behalf of US audiences that's not true

Darren barker ‏@DarrenBarker82
@stevemaxboxing shame cos DAZZLING DARREN "BAKER" is going to pollute your airways again! And I'm so happy that angers you! #TeamBarker

Darren barker ‏@DarrenBarker82
@GatecrasherUA @stevemaxboxing keep typing "keyboard warrior" I'm just going to check my bank balance to cheer myself up!

Steve Kim ‏@stevemaxboxing
@DarrenBarker82 @GatecrasherUA - again, good luck with that, I'm sure you will. I just hope its not on HBO's dime in our country

Steve Kim sounds a bit unpleasant to me.His job is to report on fights and uncover thigns not to goad and try and undermine fighters on twitter.

Bit daft from both. Fair enough for Mr Kim to have an opinion and express it, of course, though there are ways and means...Darren should just swerve him though, IMO. Or do a Smigga and properly go into one.

Steve Kim is entitled to air his opinions i suppose.

Credit to Darren for remaining fairly reserved on the matter.

Maxboxing is odd, they have 'everlast' sponsors and paid-writers... but nobody i know goes on it.

I know nothing about Mr Kim or his credentials and as far as I know have never met him, but perhaps he might remember what the old heavyweight Tex Cobb said about boxing writers. "You're probably the only individuals in our universe who actually have less constructive jobs than I do. I don't do nothing but hit people. And you mothers don't do nothing but talk about what I do."

Darren seems too be too intelligent to let someone wind him up; the bloke is after some controversy or a mad reaction so he feels important. Barker is a good boxer, making good money - that Steve Kim has too much time on his hands.

A fantastic mantra for all budding boxing writers to remember, from one of the best out there.

I thought Darren handled it well, and there was no resorting to abuse or threats of violence.
Kim was blatantly shit stirring."imagine what you could've done that night if you wouldve taken some chances and tried to actually win"
Barker was given zero chance against Sergio and I was worried he was going to get mullered early on but Darren boxed well bust Martinez's nose and was winning rounds against the MW 1 # until he got overwhelmed later on.
Talking of Barker and bravery lets not forget he stepped into an unfair fight and got knocked out cold and had his teeth kicked out and still got back in the ring against Martinez

This war of words has some history.

Kim was extra-critical of Barker in the build-up to Martinez battle and didn't alter his stance afterwards.

As far as I'm concerned, Barker did well but came unstuck as the rounds went on. Martinez seems to be able to up his game when ever he likes. Like he did in the macklin fight. Holding your own against a p4p'er like Martinez is something to be proud of. Wonder if Kim has ever laced em up?

You can bet Steve Kim loves watching Andre Ward, Bernard Hopkins and Tim Bradley. All of whom are good cures to insomnia but happen to be American, so it's all acceptable.

Like everyone else on here I have got to give Darren Barker credit for not raising to the bait that Kim was putting out out just so he write about it for his blog that Barker was abusive on the good old Twitter, although Kim will probably try and spin it someway though. and I feel that Barker who has done the bulk of his career at European and British level did not disgrace himself at all for those 11 rounds against Maravilla, and I look forward to seeing him again on the forthcoming Alexandra Palace bill.

To be fair, he gives them a lot of grief for being boring.

This whole fracas is at least partly my fault. Kim completely wrote Barker off before the Martinez fight, attacking his credentials and so on. I thought it went a little beyond objectivity and said so, eventually blogging on our debate. Kim was then forced into various Twitter conflicts with numerous Barker fans, leaving a sour taste (Barker himself was pretty good-natured on Twitter, insisting he'd prove Steve wrong etc). Recently Steve and I discussed the GB amateur performance compared to the US – just banter – and the previous Barker debate came back up. So I apologise. But if you enjoyed it I'm on @DannyFlexen :)

I think this Steve Kim guy comes across as massively unprofessional. I'd be embarrassed to get involved with bollocks like that.

I know this might be close to, or even over the line- but Steve Kim strikes me as someone who has cock envy. What I mean by that is, his race are known to pack slightly less in the trouser department- and he really strikes me as someone who has a tiny cock and is secretly angry about it and takes it out on his more well hung rivals.

He always wears excrutiatingly tight beige pants, white socks and brown shoes. I feel that this is further evidence of his tiny cock and would explain a lot about him. He seems the type to adopt the legs crossed at the crutch sitting position if you get me...

No way should a writer speak to a fighter like that but if you really have to, at least do it to his face. Unprofessional attitude IMO, another 'journalistic' ego gone wild.

He should not be goading fighters like that on twitter, especially as Barker was a massive underdog going in and handled himself surprisingly well in the fight.

If this guy was on my books he'd be getting a stern warning for this sort of behavoir.

I follow Steve Kim and I often find him pretty biased against Brits. He's been moaning more than anyone that our Olympic fighters have been "chaperoned" through the rounds, and he refused to give Barker any credit at all for his performance vs Martinez (which I, like many, thought was pretty decent for a few rounds)

He's one of those who think that the boxing world revolves around the USA, and if you've never been there then you're crap.
