Great fight between two tough as nails middleweights with similar aggressive styles. I could see this going either way, but forced to pick I go with Walker who I think had a few more tricks up his sleeve.

What a fascinating match. I can remember watching grainy B&W footage of Tiger beating Gene Fullmer in 1963 for the middleweight title. I thought at the time that the American style of fighting (toe-to-toe, heavily body-punching oriented) suited Tiger better than the British (stand-off, jab-and-move) method. In terms of sheer physical endurance, I'd pick Tiger. Walker was a welterweight who moved up to middleweight, whereas Tiger was a genuine middleweight who later moved up to light-heavyweight. (OT: I think a closer match, would've been Walker vs. Terry Downes. Only thing that let Downes down (ouch!) was that he was prone to cuts: the swarming Walker could have capitalised on that if they'd ever met.)
Cheers,

Walker not only also moved up to light HW (where he beat light HWs superior to those beaten by Tiger in Rosenbloom, Berlenbach, and McTigue), but HW and beat several top fighters there. Tiger's physicality would not be an issue for him in the slightest.CliSwe wrote: Walker was a welterweight who moved up to middleweight, whereas Tiger was a genuine middleweight who later moved up to light-heavyweight. Re: Middleweights: Dick Tiger vs Mickey Walker
Mickey Walker developed into strong sturdy MW who twice beat the Neanderthal man Ace Hudkins, dropped the tough southpaw Tiger Flowers twice, beat a man STRONGER than Dick Tiger LH champion Paul Berlenback, then beat HWts King Levinsky, johnny Risko, the powerful Basque Paolino Uzcudun, Bearcat Wright who outweighed Mickey by 50 pounds, drew with the absolute prime Jack Sharkey, took everything a prime Max Schmeling dished out and still on his feet after 8 rds, and you pick Dick Tiger over the Toy bulldog, because of endurance ? Tiger was a very good fighter who never accomplished what Walker did tackling the BIG BOYS time and again...Look what Bob Foster did to Tiger??? No one was any tougher or sturdier than Mickey Walker sober or plastered...CliSwe wrote:What a fascinating match. I am picking walker he simply had a better resume and fought in a tougher era.
