Jonjo Finnegan - Urgent Fundraising - Please donate

Post by The Law »

Ladies/Gents,

I am sure that you are aware that Jonjo Finnegan sustained a significant injury during his contest against Ryan Clark at Burton on Friday 27th July 2012 and that he remains in hospital having undergone surgery. He is still being cared for at the Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham in the High Depensity Unit having recently been transferred from the Intensive Care Unit. Whilst his condition is still extremely serious he is making some small progress, however, it is clearly going to be a long and difficult path towards recovery.

The financial and emotional strains on this young family is considerable, the bills are still arriving and there is no money coming into the household. Jonjo is the main bread winner. He is married and has two small daughters aged just 7 and 4 years. The Board and Area Council have already made a contribution to try and offset the immediate problems but any other contribution would be gratefully received. In addition, the family are trying to organise a number of fund raising events a number of which are detailed below. If anyone can support these events it would be of tremendous help to the family.

Newhall United Football Club 1:00pm Sunday 19th August 2012 - Football match featuring 8 teams of 11 a side 20 minutes each way, (Quarter finals, semi finals then final). £5 per player, £2 spectator.

Shobnall Sports & Social Club 7:30pm Friday 24th August 2012 - Disco & Charity Raffle.

Burton Amateur Boxing Club 2pm - 4pm Sunday 26th August 2012 - Amateur Exhibition event. £5.00 entry.

Newhall Social Club 12:00midday -5:00pm Saturday 15th September 2012. Various Events including children's activities.

Chester Marathon 9am Sunday 7th October 2012 - Suzanne Potts Sponsored Marathon.

Professional Boxing Dinner Event (Errol Johnson) Burton Albion FC. Date to be decided late October.

Eaton Hotel, Birmingham 6pm Saturday 1st December 2012 - Midlands Area Awards/Xmas Dinner. £40.00 ticket.

Jonjo's mother Gillian Finnegan is currently overseeing the fund raising and is in the process of opening an account specifically to assist the family. In the interim period any contributions in the form of cheque(s) should be made payable to 'G. Finnegan' and posted to Les Potts, British Boxing Board of Control Ltd, Moathouse, Haughton, Staffs, ST18 9HR or alternatively paid direct into any Lloyds TSB Branch or via bank transfer to:-

Account name: G. Finnegan

i will send a contribution and also hope to attend at least one of the functions.

the BBB of C needs to implement some sort of a policy that all UK boxers will have to pay a small percentage (? 2%) of every purse they earn which will become a kind of injury policy for injuries sustained in the ring. there will be fixed levels of pay out to be decided by the board. 2% does not sound a lot but it will soon add up and the big earners will pay significant amounts.

I am looking into whether my charity, Heroes Children Fund could possibly help the charity in anyway.

Leave it with me.

His brother Frank on Bunces hour. Jonjo is breathing on his own, speaking, eating, recognising family. Its not all good news, he will have learn to walk again. Frank sounds positive he will eventually make a full recovery.

The Board does have an insurance policy that works on a sliding sclae IIRC. I think your covered upto £100,000 if the worst happens or your permenantly incapacitated. Might have changed though.

Anyhoo

I'll be donating and attending at least one of the functions.
