I don't know whether you consider the Book of Records produced by Boxing (forerunner of Boxing News for those who don't know) to be verified information but just to let you know the following entries are fairly specific for Billy Marchant of Salford. His height is given as 5ft 5in. I found a specific date of birth for him from the public records of 26 December 1890 and a date of death of February 1953. Anyway, in addition to the fights on his record here for the years between 1914 and 1920, the Boxing record has:
7.18.14 Jimmy Carter w ko 7 St Helens
8.15.14 Bill Cowley w rsf 5 Wallsend
6.12.19 Billy Driver w ko 2 Hull
6.23.19 Billy Jones w pts 8 Newcastle
7.26.19 Seaman Matheson w ko 5 West Hartlepool
8.18.19 Harry Hulin w pts 20 New Brighton
8.23.19 Seaman Cox w rtd 13 Bishop Auckland
10.23.19 Ben Stephenson w pts 15 Manchester
10.24.19 Joe Swift w rtd 14 Barrow
1.11.19 Paddy Clayton w ko 4 Stockport
21.11.19 Charlie Stone w ko 9 Manchester
29.11.19 Danny Morgan w pts 15 Mountain Ash, Wales
13.12.19 Danny Shea nd 8 Preston
1.17.20 Tom Ward w rtd 4 Bury
2.28.20 George Ruddick w pts 15 Openshaw
4.16.20 Joe Swift w rtd 4 Warrington
4.24.20 Mick McAdam l rtd 6 Glasgow
6.5.20 Ned Williams w rtd 4 Openshaw
7.31.20 Kid Lees l pts 15 Sunderland
In 1911 Marchant was the eldest of 9 children living at his parents' home at 10 Grafton Street, Pendleton. He worked as an iron presser. No mention of boxing.
Hope that's of some help.
Billy Marchant
Re: Billy Marchant
Thanks for this Bob. Record updated. Born, rather appropriately, on Boxing Day I see. Much obliged.
