Per the Jan. 17, 1926 Spokane Spokesman-Review newspaper, during 1925 there had been 9,500 bouts held in the United States. In the first 11 months, California sponsored 1,076. New York state had 2,000; Ohio 1000-plus; Pennsylvania 1,800; Wisconsin 600; and 2,000 were held in the various remaining states.

Very depressing...I saw a stat a while back, but forgot what it said, but it was something like...maybe 200, or 300 shows in the U.S., I may be wrong, but I'm certain that it isn't near 1000...or at least I don't think so. Thanks for that stat though Ric and thanks for Stribling and son photo that you sent me.
Although the stat said "bouts," I wonder if they meant "shows." Also, I wonder if this stat includes only legally-comissioned sanctions bouts. At this time, for example, boxing was illegal in Washington state, but there must have been hundreds and hundreds of bouts fought throughout the state in 1925.
