Tommy Oosthuizen is out the running. His team turned down an offer apparently.

I reckon Mikkel Kessler. He has stated he wants a rematch with him over here in Nottingham and there has been talks between Hearn and the Sauerlands.

Presumably someone in the IBF's top 15. My money would be on Pavlik.

Pavlik, Kessler or Oosthuizen are the realistic good opponents. I'v no idea who it is gonna be to be honest. Obviously it was reported that Oosthuizen turned the fight down but you never know they might have got offered something slightly better since then.

Kessler would be epic.

Revenge in his hometown followed by ending the journey in Canada by stopping Bute again for a nice payday. Legacy well and truly secure, nothing left to prove etc etc. :TU:

Apart from beating Ward? I dont think it will be Kessler, either. I think he will take an easy (for him) one.

If he won both those fights I think he would have more fights. I think he will now keep fighting until he loses, unless he somehow went 5 fights from now unbeaten.

Yiddo,
He has to rematch and beat Ward as you put it to secure his legacy.
As good as Froch has been, I don't think he can beat Ward.

Ward has his number, I agree. No doubt Froch would fit him but Ward probably doesn't see the point. Froch can be involved in far more exciting fights against others.

Kessler would be the revenge fight and Bute the signing off in style in another defence. Three time belt holder, super six runner up, fought all over the place, beat world class opponents and had a run of opposition unmatched in the modern game in terms of quality. Fine legacy :TU:

Nicholson Poulard is apparently in the frame, he is a 19-3 (9) light-heavyweight, he is stating on Fightnews that he has been offered the fight and would like to avenge
his brothers defeat (Pascal).

He is not sure he can do the weight but says he would like to try!!

Presumably they have been left in the lurch by Oosthuizen turning it down for whatever reason, perhaps this is just to promote Froch/Bute 2 by having Froch knock over another
Canadian and they can whip the country into anti-Froch fever.

Perhaps its to get Oosthuizen back to the negotiating table by saying we have someone else in the frame.

Either way I hope its not this guy but Carl has had some really tough fights so I would not overly complain although I am sure many would.

Why though? A crap fight is a crap fight, whoever he has boxed in the past.

Hopkins does not do "epic" fights. They are very, very boring nowadays.

B-Hop would be all wrong for Carl, he is basically the old man version of Andre Ward. That fight won't happen.

Am hoping it's a big-ish name and not a ticking over fight. The timing would be all wrong for Carl to start having 'lesser' fights now, he needs to keep the big fights flowing whilst he's still 'got it', cos at his age who knows when old father time might start catching up with him.

I don't think he is anywhere near as good now as he was against Calzaghe and I think Froch's work rate would get him the win, even if his speed is way below that of Calzaghe's.

Well you know the Bute fight is scheduled for March so wouldn't it make sense to fight someone with a similar style to Bute? Well that would be my thinking?

I know one thing, Carl has a resume that demands respect.. This country really needs to get behind him and support him IMHO.. He could be filling Forest's ground soon enough.. :TU:

Depends where he sees his career going, for me it would make sense for him to take one fight at light heavy weight before going back to defending his title at SMW as it would set him up after he's fought Kesslar and Bute (assuming wins) to fight at another weight rather than have to fight Ward against whom he'll struggle.

He's about the only fighter I'd forgive for taking a tomato can because he's given so much to the sport in his time.
