Frankie Gavin vs Junior Witter
Frankie is mandatory for the British title and wants to win it outright before challenging for the EBU belt. They're his targets, but does anyone think Witter will take this fight, or try to get another world title shot with time running out?
I'd love to see them get it on, but does it make sense for either of them at this moment in time? I'm not sure it does. Could be risky for Frankie, and there are bigger pay days out there for Witter aren't there?
Thoughts?

Anything with Witter these days just bores me to tears.
Re: Frankie Gavin vs Junior Witter
Witter isn't ranked in the top 15 by any of the world sanctioning bodies and he is only ranked 8th by the EBU. I don't really think he is in a great position to get big fights.
I think he is probably best off fighting Gavin.

Re: Frankie Gavin vs Junior Witter
If allegedly does not win the purse bids can't see it happening, if it does happen can't see Witter winning it, unless he lands a big punch or his awkward style causes Gavin problems, the problem is Witter does not have the stamina, reflexes and punch resistance he had before, he also had trouble with the hands down approach of El Machi, who throws punches from angles, Gavin should win by late stoppage or points, better skills, stamina and punch stats, Gavin though needs to watch out for Witter's wild swings and head clashes, Witter still has his punch power, you never lose that, hope Gavin wins and he makes Naser Al Harbi his voluntary, then you will see a proper fight and not one that could get very untidy with the clash of styles.
Re: Frankie Gavin vs Junior Witter
I still appreciate Witter, albeit he isn't as good as he used to be I feel a little sorry for him.
It could be Gavin's biggest pay day to date and Witter isn't that active so probably could do with a bit of cash!
I'd definitely tune in to watch that one. It's the sort of fight that Gavin could accelerate his career with if he makes a statement.

Re: Frankie Gavin vs Junior Witter
Somehow not sure if it will be either boxer's biggest purse, I think only Warren and Hennessey will bid for it, though with Frank Maloney's links with allegedly he might put a cheeky bid in, not sure on the ticket front, if it will work, would have thought it would have to be in Birmingham to make sense, but who knows ? I think you are right about Witter, coming down back to British level must be for money, on the verge of retiring after a great career, needs a few good pay days, don't forget he is up in weight as well, so his chances of getting another world title shot, in the hottest division are slim or none.TopGun wrote:I still appreciate Witter, albeit he isn't as good as he used to be I feel a little sorry for him.

Witter = Snoozefest.
Gavin = Snoozefest.
No thanks. Retire please, both of you.

I know it won't be witters biggest purse, that's not what I said. "It could be Gavin's biggest pay day to date ". What of Gavin's previous fights would earn him more than if he was to fight Witter next? Its not going to be the biggest dust up ever I know but lets be honest it would be a good fight esepcially if it goes on channel 5.

I see your point but history tells us otherwise:safeerah wrote:If allegedly does not win the purse bids can't see it happening,
Fury vs Chisora
Clev vs McIntosh
Both won by Hennessy.
Re: Frankie Gavin vs Junior Witter
Good point but Chisora and Clev were not his best fighters then, Gavin is one of his main boys and Warren has invested a lot in him, also Hennessey won the bid for the british title eliminator between Witter and Gavin before and it did not happen.G0mez wrote:I see your point but history tells us otherwise:safeerah wrote:If allegedly does not win the purse bids can't see it happening,

i think FW may reach a sink or swim moment with Gavin though, Naj.
if he has invested a lot in Gavin- and I don't know how much has been invested- he hasn't had anything back out of it yet.
tough businessmen know when the time is right to cut their losses, and FW is certainly that. given that Gavin isn't a HUGE ticketseller (i believe he is a decent seller but not brilliant) i could see him being moved quickly in the near future.

what sort of money has frankie been getting for his fight's ??

Re: Frankie Gavin vs Junior Witter
Could be. I think Gavin does between 500 and 750, which maybe not enough to top a bill on a big show, like Bellew or Kel Brock can do now, plus allegedly seem more interested in putting other promoters shows on, they should have done what Matchroom did with Kel and put him on in his home city more to build his fan base, we will find out a lot more after the purse bids are decided, the thing is can Witter sell many tickets ? If not it looks like a smaller show in birmingham, unless Hennessey wins it and puts it on a big show with Fury, Kid Galahad and Eubank jr. It remains a mystery why the unbeaten Gavin has not fought for a major title before now, bearing in mind he is with one of the biggest promoters, even if some of it has been his own doing, something is wrong ?Counter-puncher wrote:i think FW may reach a sink or swim moment with Gavin though, Naj.

Re: Frankie Gavin vs Junior Witter
Gavin (as all fighters) will sell more tickets as the fights and titles get bigger. It's often the way. Not even Hatton started out with the following he finished with.
As for this fight, really hope it happens. Sink or swim decision for FW...? Hopefully. Frankie needs a chance to prove himself if he is to prove he is worthy of further investment. Which he is. Witter won't like Gavin's whipped body shots, not one bit.

i was at the Bradley fight and it didn't seem like more than 100 people were there specifically cheering Witter. most of them were connected to the Ingle camp, too, in fact if about 7 Ingle lads hadn't been on that night I got the impression he may not have had anyone there for him at all.safeerah wrote: the thing is can Witter sell many tickets ?

Re: Frankie Gavin vs Junior Witter
interesting. i wonder if those are linked, that 500-750 isn't enough tickets to persuade FW to put Gavin to the front of the queue. speaking of mysteries I've spoken with other Birmingham-based fans and we've always wondered why Gavin hasn't had the chance to headline in Birmingham.safeerah wrote:Could be. my guess is that the 'something wrong' is about more than the tickets he sells, what they call in football off-the-field problems, Gavin maybe not seen as reliable enough to take a risk on. FW took a risk with Mitchell, another alleged off-field worry, at Upton Park for Katsidis, and look what happened. once bitten twice shy and all that. maybe Gavin's best shot is to somehow make himself a mandatory and go away from home to win a belt, like Enzo Mac going to Russia or whatever.
Re: Frankie Gavin vs Junior Witter
Im not buyin this fight I wouldn't like to watch it one and know everyone who has mentioned to to me have said wont happen I think it will on some under card
Re: Frankie Gavin vs Junior Witter
Yes true, I don't think Warren likes his fighters refusing to fight or letting him down in any way, Gavin pulled out of the Horta fight and did not want to fight on the Haye/Chisora for fear of blowing any british title shot, since Gavin has not fought, he was promised a show in Birmingham for September, what happened to that ? Now Gavin is talking about maybe fight in october, what happens if that does not take place ? Maybe Warren has invested too much on allegedly, so maybe there is not much in the kitty.Counter-puncher wrote:interesting. i wonder if those are linked, that 500-750 isn't enough tickets to persuade FW to put Gavin to the front of the queue. speaking of mysteries I've spoken with other Birmingham-based fans and we've always wondered why Gavin hasn't had the chance to headline in Birmingham.safeerah wrote:Could be. I took the heffron fight on july bill an when they withdrew, I got offered mcdonagh who I already beat comfortably so said no an I am fighting first week oct an late nov brit title vs witter an my voluntary providing I win will not be against nas as the fight never happened last. An he don't bring nothing to the table which he never last time but we were both undefeated then.
Re: Frankie Gavin vs Junior Witter
Nasser fought world no 6 Emanuele Della Rosa in Italy in which he was robbed, as all the people who watched it on live stream, Boxing news and the Italian press confirmed, Della Rosa had only lost by a split decision for a world title to Zbik in Germany, The WBC the biggest Sanctioning body were very impressed by Nasser's performance so gave him a world ranking, since he has improved greatly, he took the fight at 3 weeks notice for 12 rounder against a world level fighter, having only done 7 rounds maximum before, his confidence has gone up higher now, he wobbled Della Rosa twice in the fight opening up two cuts on him and also hurt him to the body, after in his interview Della Rosa said he found Nasser very fast and accurate with his punches, he also claimed that Nasser punches a lot harder then record suggests, I guess he can crack more then an egg.Frankie Gavin wrote:I took the heffron fight on july bill an when they withdrew, I got offered mcdonagh who I already beat comfortably so said no an I am fighting first week oct an late nov brit title vs witter an my voluntary providing I win will not be against nas as the fight never happened last. Ability wise Nasser brings plenty to the table, plenty.

Junior Witter fought his way to the top by winning the WBC world title. After being written off by many "experts" regained the British title at the age of 38.
