Calzaghe v Kellser - allegedly

Post by forcefraser »

I watched this again last night.

First time around watching it live I had Calzaghe a clear winner, but after watching it again it was much closer than I remember.

Kessler banged him with some great shots and a normal chin would have gone down from a few of them. Kessler just didn`t put in enough work in the last 6 rounds, which was of course due to Calzaghe`s skills and pressure.

I had it to Calzaghe by only 2 rounds after watching again (maybe I was looking more for Kessler`s work), whilst first time around I had him by 5.

I also re-watched a recorded version ofr Fury`s first fight with Big John McDermott and the margin the ref gave it to Fury by was an utter disgrace.

I find it hard to stay neutral when scoring rounds as a fan of a fighter especially. You are spot on with Calzaghe - Kessler, I had it by 3 rounds the next morning and probably about 6 or 7 on the night (tanked up obviously)!

I seem to remember believing Hatton won 4 of the first 7 rounds against Mayweather (again tanked up)! Never watched that back though, no need.

Fury vs McDermott 1 was a draw IMO.

The beer googles do distort things a bit for that`s for sure.

Still a great fight from Calzaghe, beating a prime unbeaten Kessler. Calzaghe`s chin was immense. Throughout his career he has been caught and dropped, but he always seems clear in his head and comes straight back at them. Top fighter.
