Upcoming fight points issue

Post by Crease »

Just to highlight a potentially controversial point:

SOCKDOLAGER VS DEADENDGENERATION
JOE LOUIS VS BENNY LEONARD
This week these two Super Champions face each other. By the points system they will be receieving:

If Louis wins he will recieve 13 points (4 pts each for defending the WBA & WBO titles, plus 5 for winning the IBF)

If Leonard wins he will recieve 14 points (4 pts for defending the IBF, plus 5 points for winning the WBA & IBF titles)

As a question to the Managers... In the past these big unification fights have been criticised for awarding too many points, what would you suggest?

How much should the victor recieve?
Whatabout capping it to no more than 10 pts...

Just a suggestion, have your say.

That's a bit unfair on Benny.

Haha but seriously, something should be done. A cap is a good idea, but with a scale that does allow for more points, if there are more belts on offer. So for example this fight is for 3 belts, it shouldn't get the same number of points as if it was for 4 or all 5 of the big titles. A complete unification might be worth more than 10 points as it's going to be pretty hard for anyone to do. I think some kind of sliding scale, perhaps halving the number of points for all but 1 belt per fighter in unifications or something.

The number of belts on offer doesn't dictate the fights quality. It's fair enough giving a bonus for unifying, but the champion shouldn't be getting extra points on every defence.

Yeah, I get you. Points should be based on the quality of opposition. Leonard's defences were against the top rated fighter available to him excepting the JCC defence which he only drew anyway.

Either way, this unification fight will be between the top two fighters in the sim thus far.

That fact is an irrelevance as was pointed out to me (by Detroit, JDC and Sock) when I proposed the Leonard vs Marciano for the Lonsdale Belt.

Has anyone got any suggestions as to how many points the new triple unified Champions should receive?

50???

How about 9? All title fights have 5 and 2 for each belt thereafter. Just a suggestion.

It's definitely a suggestion with good reasoning to it... And by that train of thought:

5 pts - winning world title
7 pts - winning 2 world titles
9 pts - winning 3 world titles
11 pts - winning all 4 world titles

4 pts- defending a world title
5 pts - defending 2 world titles
6 pts- defending 3 world titles
7 pts - defending all 4 world titles
