Apart from Frankie Gavin, Tony Bellew, Kevin Mitchell and David Haye, Ricky Burns is probably joint 5th with Kell Brook and Carl Froch on my favorite present British boxers, so it's fair to say I like him alot ! And when the Scottish sing "flower of Scotland" I love the atmosphere (even on tv), and what with my great great grandad and everyone before him on my dads side of the family coming from there I think it's fair to say I love Scotland too !
BUT when a guy from dagenham (where I'm born and bred) knocks out a jock in his own back yard, Its the best sporting feeling ever !

Burns is a very improved fighter who has just got better and better so you have to bet he will retain his title on points. Home advantage is another thing, he will have thousands of Jocks willing him on. I dont want to dicount Mitchell though. I dont think Mitchell can win over 12 rounds on points but I do think he can win with a KO. Everyone has a bad day at the office and Katsidis was Mitchells bad day. His training and his mind at the time were not what they usually are so he was beaten, but this was just a hiccup in Kevins previously spotless career as a pro. He will be 100% ready for this fight and I think he may well take Burns out midway. He certainly has the punchpower and he needs it IMO to win.

Jessi, why you making this a national thing? I'm a boxing fan and like good match ups. Couldn't care less what nationality they are. Why the rivalry? Would you'd think different and want Burns to win if you was Scottish? Thats shallow if so.

There's always national rivaly what's wrong with that. Nothing racist about it. The Scots will 99 times out of 100 support their guy if he is fighting an Englishman and vice versa, regardless of who they think is the better fighter, nothing wrong with it at all.

I didn't say it was racist. Just saying it's shallow. Am I right to believe then that all the Scottish and English here are saying Burns or Mitchill will win may not truely believe that? Just having that view because they are being 'patriotic'? Why? Say it how it is. I'm English but believe Burns will win if on form. Saying it how it is. I don't though believe Burns will win if he changes trainers at this late stage or isn't having a good camp. I believe Mitchell will win if this is the case going on his form v Murray if his prep has been the same.

I to like good match ups regardless ! But I'm supporting someone from where I'm from and because it's against a scot it's even more exciting for me !
England v Scotland is always good rivalry, and I do actually think Mitchell wins, I supported Hatton against an American and a philipino thinking he would loose but supported him because I wanted him to win and he is English, there's nothing wrong with being patriotic in sport ! Can't see what's shallow tbh

Absolutely I think you should give your honest opinion but that doesn't mean you can't support the fighter who you think might lose based on Nationality. If Carl Froch rematched Andre Ward I think Ward would win, but I would want Froch to win that fight on the basis that he is the British fighter.

Billy, a bit of advice. Don't show your worried or bothered by it. It's the least of your worries...remember ;;-)

I dont care if you don't believe me. And to be honest, I personally couldn't care less if true or not. Just had an opinion that if it was true it wouldn't be a wise move to change this near a fight. The more the fight gets nearer of course the less likely this 'rumour' is true. So Billy, as each day passes you can chill alittle bit more :TU: .....Only if it does concern you that is
If you don't care less why post it you fool

Because he is British? What, so it doesn't matter if that someone is an arsehole or not, as long as they are British you will support them? No matter if 'they' are right are wrong you will support them because they are British. If 'someone' is good, or right but not British you won't support them over 'someone' who is is bad or wrong...But British? Shallow.

Like I said before I think Mitchell WILL win as well as want him to, and as I also said before I thought hatton would NOT win but he got my support anyway !
However there is exceptions, when Roy jones jnr fought calzage I wanted Roy because his one of my favorites (I know Joe is welsh but even if he was English I still would of wanted Roy)
It all depends on just how much you like someone, but all in all most people want someone from there country to win !

Even though you supported hatton vs pacman and mayweather did you really think he'd win? Really? He had very little chance and as much as we wanted him to win he didn't have much of a chance. I like Kevin Mitchell always have but my nationalistic feelings aside I think burns bests him.

What trainers have you got in mind from the 23rd of september then Ricky ?
I've heard Jimmy Tibbs is good, along way down the road though !
Kevin Mitchell is the pride of Essex and East London ! Come on kev, show the jocks how to really fight ! :box:
Same way he fought against Katsidis hopefully :KO:
Mitchell will slowly show everyone that the katsidis fight was nothing but a bad day at the office, burns will be knocked out in spectacular fashion to silence 10,000 jocks all at once !

I find it strange that some are passing off the Katsidis fight as a bad day at the office, saying Mitchell's head wasn't right, thats why he lost etc etc. Straight after the fight Kevin correctly said 'better man won, fair play to him' etc, which is what happened in the ring. The tune changed a few days later.
Kev simply might not be up to it in the whiskers department in order to hang with guys at a higher level. That and he is too easy to tag. An old Johansson had him in plenty of trouble in their tear up.

The only way Mitchell can prove that night was a blip is to do a number on a number of world class fighters. Katsidis was never elite level, he always fell short.

He was saying The better man won 'on the night' and yes Katsidis was better...'On that given night'. Are you talking about the same 'Johansson' who dropped Ricky Burns three times and went on to clearly outscore him? Burns being knocked down by the same heavy punches Johannson hit Mitchell with? The same punches Mitchell shock off and KO'd Johannson? My point is 'yiddo14' you cannot go by past fights with the same fighter. Just because man A lost to man B, man A beat man C doesn't mean man B will beat man C. Johannson didn't get anywhere near World level but dropped and beat Burns so you contradict yourself when you say "The only way Mitchell can prove that night was a blip is to do a number on a number of world class fighters. Katsidis was never elite level, he always fell short"....So did Johannson who beat Burns
