Barker, who has not fought since his world title defeat against Sergio Martinez last October due to hip surgery, has been told to rest for a month after damaging tendons in his arm.
Will Barker be able to fight before the end of the year?

Purdy's new opponent is only ranked 100th by BoxRec. This bill is looking fairly weak.

The bill is average Saturday night fare, no better no worse. The problem is that Matchroom/Sky's new boxing model seemed to be, unless I've go the wrong end of the stick here, less domestc cards but ones of a much deeper/better quality. This is simply not the case for this bill, both before and after Barker's injury. Internationally boxing has been as good as give the bullet.

Matchroom need to, and I believe will make new signings. The have a good stable, but it's far to shallow for what they and Sky are trying to do.

On another note I hope the recent article on Boxrec news on this card has been a lazy reprint of a Matchroom presser. If not it is a little to over the top in singing this bills praises for my liking. It's not a junk bill but it's pretty average stuff.

Looking forward to seeing the Eagle though. Of all the fighters on the bill I reckon in ten years time he'll be viewed as having been the best. Head above parapet now..................

With Barker fight the bill was good, without it the bill now looks pretty weak

The Barker fight hardly filled me with excitement, the replacement could be more bombs away, tv-friendly stuff. Purdy is a bit rough around the edges but likes a scrap..

Only one fight in 2010, two in 2011 and none in 2012.
Very worrying.

Me neither but it would have been nice to see him in action again. As 26 has said, his inactivity is a little.worrying.

The reality has been painted over since way back on this hasn't it. Isn't Barker knackered? And has been for a while, I remember hearing he had surgery which rectified it....but he's not fought since. Do I have that right?

Going to this bill. Never thought the Barker fight would be a cracker by any stretch of the imagination but was looking forward to seeing him back in a ring and also with a decent 'home' support I thought it actually made the trek to Ally Pally worthwhile.

Bit gutted now as the bill is obviously not as good but also the atmosphere will be nowehere near as good pressumably and I am still having to go all the way to Ally Pally which is a right ballache for me to get to! :D

I'm concerned for Darren. Lovely kid, very genuine, hope he breaks the injury curse but becoming skeptical that he will.

If he comes back then he should go straight into a meaningful fight, and not waste a training camp and a potential injury just to fight someone like Rotolo.

He should fight Murray or Macklin as soon as possible.

I agree. If he's going to be injured all the time then they might as well dispense with the fluff fights and chuck him in with Murray or Macklin while he's still able to function. He fought a tough European-level operator in Spada after a long lay off so he's more than capable.
