Good opponent for carl in a homecoming / gimmie fight. He deserves it and seems the type to train hard for any fight. I hope he gets a nice payday then moves along for the rematch of bute in Canada.

Can I just clarify, when I say good opponent im talking in context of a "homecoming" fight.

Doesn't set the pulse racing but I certainly don't begrudge Carl an 'easier' night's work.
I just hope this isn't a banana skin waiting to happen.

I don't know too much about this guy, so really can't comment. If it is a bit of a gimmie, I can't grumble has Froch has shown a willingness to test himself against the best throughout his career. Presumably it is Kessler or Bute after this one?

Agreed that he does deserve an easier opponent after the last few years. Mack was stopped by a 40 year old Glen Johnson so it would be very unlikely anything other than a stoppage by froch is on the cards.

Too easy for Froch, i'd see him fighting with DeGeale or Groves...

Agree that this doesn't set the pulse racing but as others have said if anyone deserves an easy defence it's Froch. Not sure I'll head up to Nottingham for this though even though I had planned to. Will look at ticket prices and decide.

Mack is a very fragile fighter. He just seemed to be overwhelmed by Johnson on every level in what was supposed to be a big tv fight for him on ESPN FNF doing over the old man. It turned out to be the opposite.

I thought Mack was a light heavy? Is this for Froch's title?

i agree that the opponent isnt of the highest quality but think it is a good "tune up" fight for Froch.

one thing i will say is that i dont think the mack is an opponent who wets the appetite enough to fork out big money for a ticket!!

A non-title fight? How are they going to sell this stinker without a title on the line?

They better pack the undercard because this is a weak main event.

It is for the IBF Super middleweight title.

Mack is indeed fragile, but his skills aren't to bad. Could be a hard nights work if Froch starts slow. He's the type of opponant who could also fall apart like Bute if Froch jumps on him.

I think this is an opponent Froch needs to jump on, much like he did against Pascal at the start of that fight. While he is a step down from the opponents Froch has faced since Pascal he still has some skills as he wasn't getting shut out by Tavoris Cloud by any means, so the prospect of Froch being behind at the half way stage if he starts slow isn't that far out the question.

Prices look a bit steep considering the opponent, think I will wait and see what the undercard is like.

Mack has been stopped every time he has stepped up. I would have thought that Froch would stop him late on.

Bit of a shame that this puts a stop to Froch`s run of top class fights, but who would begrude him a slightly easier nights work?

Yusaf Mack would be seen as a decent test for Clev or Bellew, but given Carl's run since Jean Pascal in Dec 2008... it's easy to dismiss Mack's chances in this one - and because of this, it lacks the unknown / posible upset Xfactor. You know Mack be valiant but utlimately get knocked out.

Normally a boxer fights five or six Mack-types then fights a live body, then repeats the process. With Carl it's been the other way round so can understand people being less than ecstatic.

I did give it a clue it was a Philly Light heavy a couple of weeks ago, and knew people would assume Hopkins :OhYes:

All said and done, it's a gimme and hopefully will have a solid undercard to make the show good value for everyone.

Knocked out 4 times already, it's safe to see what to expect here.

Hearn is happily cashing in on the fact that no one is going to begrudge Carl an easy fight, but in the meantime, Eddie is steadily feeding Sky a bunch of no hope palookas for his boys.

Mack hasn't made 168lbs for five years.... My guess is he'll be a dead man walking at super middle. But as others have said you can't begrudge Carl an easy night.

This sums up everything. But Froch is getting no younger and has a style that doesn't lend itself to longevity. If not big names wanted a fight with him then fair enough. But this is a bit soft for someone looking to capitalise on his next 2-4 fights.

But whatever, he's earnt a homecoming gimme if he can pack thr fans in for it. If I was in the UK, I wouldn't attend, but this is his first opponent I could say that about in a long time.

poor opponent but perhaps the best matchroom could manage as no one wanted to fight froch at this time.

i feel froch could put him away very early, but equally, in front of the home crowd, froch might carry him for 5...... all depends what round his family and friends have got money on!! .... :TU:

I've always quite liked watching Mack's fight. As Gomez says he's really the sort of guy Cleverly should be beating if he's serious about getting to the top level.

Haway man, MW. I take it you aren't counting Bute in this, or Molitor for Frampton, Corley for McCloskey?
