Froch vs Mack confirmed on Skysports
Re: Froch vs Mack confirmed on Skysports
I see no problem at all with Froch having a relative night off, especially with Bute on the horizon.
I have a feeling they'll be some good fights on the undercard too.

One minute you are a warrior, the next minute you're apollo Creed!
Re: Froch vs Mack confirmed on Skysports
Mack is an enigma. Has plenty of skill and speed but is seriously lacking something. He was toying with Librado Andrade a few years back, popping in combinations like he was Joan Guzman or something, but then just dramatically folded. Fair play to Froch and his opponent level if this is a night off as is being perceived!

Re: Froch vs Mack confirmed on Skysports
I hope Froch can get up for a fight against Mack at SMW, apart from fighting in his hometown, he's not going to have the risk/reward and motivation that he had for Bute.
I've only seen Mack against Cloud though and he was decent but vulnerable when caught.
I just think how many fights has Froch got left? Danger seems to bring out the best in Carl, Abraham, Bute, Kessler, Pascal.
Carl looked disinterested at times against Johnson, was eating some obvious shots I think he went into that fight knowing it was points do just enough to win the rounds but it didn't fire him up.
They should have gone for Pavlik or Bika, w? then Kessler w? then Ward rematch W? retire L Groves/DeGale

Re: Froch vs Mack confirmed on Skysports
This the makings of an interesting fight I think and one where Froch could easily slip up, Mack looks to be a relatively easy opponent for Froch on paper but if Carl has one of his trademark slow starts (Bute fight excluded!!) and lets Mack dictate the fight he may gain confidence pick up the early rounds and be ahead on the cards. However the truth about Mack is he's a front runner and I can imagine once Froch starts turning up the heat in the middle to late rounds roared on by his home support Mack will crumble.

Re: Froch vs Mack confirmed on Skysports
Find me self completeley agreeing with you here , i also remember how froch used to struggle to get motivated for fights when he was at domestic level , sometimes looked really sluggish for the first half of a fight as he couldnt really be arsed against lesser opponents .Final round wrote:I hope Froch can get up for a fight against Mack at SMW, apart from fighting in his hometown, he's not going to have the risk/reward and motivation that he had for Bute.

However it does mean its a potential banana skin for carl , he could switch off too much and end up getting beat , not that i expect to see that happen but it could , would really see this as low reward vs medium risk , i think Bika would have been a fight Froch could have had at home , a bit easier than elite but by no means a push over .
Froch deserves an easier night yes , but it still needed to be a fight to get the public interested which i believe Bika would have done , i dont believe Mack is the man people want to see share a ring with the cobra , and unless we get an undercard thats much improved upon the bute undercard then i may not actually go , its usually unthinkable that i wouldnt attend any boxing happening in nottingham but im not feeling this fight whatsover

You can always rely on Matchroom and the Hearns to lower the bar.
Don't begrudge Froch an easier nights work, but I certainly begrudge the worms at Matchroom from cashing in.

Re: Froch vs Mack confirmed on Skysports
Dan, can you explain why Froch can or should have an easy night, I keep hearing people saying this but can't understand why. He is at the top of his game so should be fighting the best, should't he!!!! We the fans want to see him fight the best not some LHW who loses everytime he steps up. If he wants to fight lesser opponents we shouldn’t be expected to pay up to £300 for a ringside seat.Dan Dares wrote:I see no problem at all with Froch having a relative night off, especially with Bute on the horizon.

I have nothing against Eddie but it seems he is mugging off us fans by telling us he is going to give the fans what they want. Taken from matchrooms site he said “The future of boxing for fight fans and TV viewers is deeper bills with more title fights and more competitive fights in packed out arenas and that the big night of action at Ally Pally is just the first in a series of shows that will have viewers on the edge of their seats over the next two years . Well the Froch vs Mack is hardly a competitive and edge of your seat fight, is it.
Hate to say it but I can see matchroom putting on very weak shows for the next 2 years so again the fans are set to lose out.
Re: Froch vs Mack confirmed on Skysports
Comparing this fight to the Karpency fight is just wrong. The Mack fight is not a great fight by any means but the guy was competative against Cloud before he got stopped. This fight can`t be compared to Karpancy,Laryea or cook, they were diabolical fights.Black Sam Bellamy wrote:Tommy Karpency II
If he was fighting that Poulard guy i would be first to complain, but as he is going to Montreal to fight Bute next then hopefully fight Kessler then this fight is okay,my one complaint is the ticket price are at the same level as the Bute fight in most places which is wrong unless the undercard is exceptional. The booking fee is a joke aswell.

Froch could slip up here.
Struggle to get motivated, no danger, slow starter etc.
Certainly not the best but it still pisses on any of Cleverly's opponents.

I don't think it pisses on Bellew or Murat.saturday_kid wrote:Certainly not the best but it still pisses on any of Cleverly's opponents.

Because as far as I'm concerned, he's earned the right to fight whoever he wants. I've got no problem with it. I'd happily pay for a ticket to see the best boxer this country has had in a long while fight.BoxingDaz wrote:Dan, can you explain why Froch can or should have an easy night, I keep hearing people saying this but can't understand why. Your closing 'hate to say it' quote is hilarious. I take it you're either the Gilf, or more likely some PR luvvie working in Hertfordshire.

Yes, we can.The Dark Destroyer wrote:This is what it is, a stay busy fight before the Bute rematch. It isn't like this fight wasn't offered about to more interesting challengers. You can't criticise Froch for who didn't take the offer to fight him.
Re: Froch vs Mack confirmed on Skysports
How much was offered to the good fighters in the division? The Dark Destroyer wrote:I was talking about reasonable people, not reactionary horses.
Fighters have to take a large portion of the blame for their level of opposition and although Froch's opposition over the last 4 years has been exemplary, this fight against Mack is a crap fight.
Is anyone excited about Froch vs Mack? No, they think it sucks. However, they are willing to forgive Froch because he has fought better opposition than just about any other fighter on earth in recent years.
It is still a massive stinker of a fight though and everyone should admit it.
Re: Froch vs Mack confirmed on Skysports
Froch is largely to blame for who he is fighting though isn't he?The Dark Destroyer wrote:Everyone freely admits it, I guarantee no-one here wanted to see Froch Mack. It doesn't change the fact that it's a keep busy fight for a future date, and that they can only fight those who are willing to fight them. I don't know how much was offered, maybe it wasn't the right kind of money, but I doubt it.
Do you think that Froch strongly insisted to Hearn that he must fight a better opponent than Mack?
Re: Froch vs Mack confirmed on Skysports
Froch can insist that he fight an opponent that isn't a joke like Mack is.The Dark Destroyer wrote:I don't think Froch is largely to blame. Again, the fight was offered to more appropriate opponents but they didn't take it. What is Froch supposed to do?
If Hearn offered a decent amount of money to other fighters, then we should hear about the reasonable offers that the respectable opponents from the super middleweight division were offered.
How much was Pavlik offered? How much was Kessler offered? How much was Dirrell, Abraham, Oosthuizen, Stevenson or various others offered?
Re: Froch vs Mack confirmed on Skysports
I think that there is a good chace that Hearn was offering a poor wage to Froch's opponents for this date. The Dark Destroyer wrote:Froch can do that, but again, he can only fight the people who are willing to take the fight/offer that is out there.
I said earlier that I have no idea what kind of money was being talked about, but some of those fighters were offered this world title fight as far as I'm aware, and they refused to take it. I take it you think it's Hearn to blame and a low offer?
If he was offering good money to the top opponents, then he should announce how Froch's biggest rivals in the divison turned down the big money on offer to them to face Froch. I have a feeling that these sort of details won't be revealed.
I think he can.The Dark Destroyer wrote:I don't think Abraham can be considered a viable option for this date either.
Re: Froch vs Mack confirmed on Skysports
The title isn't enough when they have to fight away from home and they might get better opportunities soon. These are quality fighters and they deserve to be offered a fair wage for coming the Britain to fight. The Dark Destroyer wrote:I don't think we'll find out the details of the offers/deals that have been offered about, but that's nothing new. It was a world title fight though, for fighters like Pavlik, Stevenson and Oosthuizen I think the title should have been incentive enough. I find it hard to believe the offer was so poor that they turned it down based on financial reasons, but that's just an opinion.
Abraham for the WBO title vs either Kessler or Pavlik is probably a better risk/reward fight than Froch is.
Abraham is a viable option because he is the WBO champion and is better than Mack. The Dark Destroyer wrote:Why do you consider Abraham a viable option, given he only fought at the weekend? Add to that the dominance Froch showed when he beat Abraham previously.
Re: Froch vs Mack confirmed on Skysports
I think most people can guess that there wasn't much money on offer. The Dark Destroyer wrote:But Horse, you're just speculating on the offer that was made. It's almost pointless to argue with you on this because neither of us have any idea what the offer was and why certain fighters turned it down.
If there was a lot of money on offer, then why can't Hearn confirm that huge money was offered to various potential Froch opponents? Is that against some promoter's code of ethics?
I think he is a better opponent than Mack. What was he offered? The Dark Destroyer wrote:Abraham is not a viable option to fight Froch in mid November.
Re: Froch vs Mack confirmed on Skysports
It is a world title shot away from home with a forced fight against Bute to follow. The Dark Destroyer wrote:He is a far far better opponent than Mack. Not even in the same ball park, but his fight at the weekend surely ruled him out from taking offers, and the negotiation process must have been quite far down the road by last Saturday for Froch's next fight.
We simply don't know what Hearn was offering, but I doubt it was as bad as you're implying. I think those fighters should have taken it because it's a world title shot.
I don't know how much they would make from the Bute fight if they beat Froch, but it is a complication that is likely to put off the top fighters from fighting Froch, if they aren't offered a good wage for the initial fight.
Re: Froch vs Mack confirmed on Skysports
I thought that was the case, due to the Bute's rematch clause. The Dark Destroyer wrote:Would a fighter who beat Froch be obliged to fight Bute in his next fight? Can Bute tie up a title like that?
Re: Froch vs Mack confirmed on Skysports
Bizarre, what is the purpose of that? The Dark Destroyer wrote:Why is O-BLIGATED changed to OBLIGED in my last post? How odd.
I had write o-bligated because it gets changed to obliged? :??
Re: Froch vs Mack confirmed on Skysports
I thought Froch was forced to add a clause in the contract that anyone who beat him was forced to fight Bute in their first defence. The Dark Destroyer wrote:I thought the rematch clause was for Froch, can it be for the title if Froch was to lose it? I genuinely don't know.
