Dan, can you explain why Froch can or should have an easy night, I keep hearing people saying this but can't understand why. He is at the top of his game so should be fighting the best, should't he!!!!

Hate to say it but I can see matchroom putting on very weak shows for the next 2 years so again the fans are set to lose out.
Because as far as I'm concerned, he's earned the right to fight whoever he wants. I've got no problem with it. I'd happily pay for a ticket to see the best boxer this country has had in a long while fight.

Your closing 'hate to say it' quote is hilarious. I take it you're either the Gilf, or more likely some PR luvvie working in Hertfordshire.
I hate to disappoint but I'm neither, and who is the Gilf????

I still can't understand why people are saying he has earned an easy fight, yes is one of our best boxers but why should he fight lesser opps, he is world champ so should be fighting a top ten fighter, yes i know Mack is ranked 4th by the ibf but come on we all know this shouldn't be the case.

we are quick enough to have a go at the Franks, Hennessy and Hatton for making mismatch fights but it seems when Eddie does it its ok? why is that?. I really was hoping under Eddie this wouldn't happen but it looks like I was wrong.

I think the big difference in this case is that no-one at Matchroom is pretending this is much more than a marking-time fight for Froch between his fights with Bute. People have a go at the likes of Warren because they try to pretend that Tommy Karpency is a valid world title challenger and that beating him vastly improves Cleverlys resumè. Froch and matchroom can "get away" with a lesser opponent because they can legitimately point to a history of fighting the best. Cleverly, for instance, has gone backwards since his coming out party v Murat.

This is the first time, post Super Six, that Froch has held a belt and been able to choose his opponent and look what we get. He gets so much credit for the opposition he has faced but what choice did he have? He was never in a position to call the shots before hidden away on Primetime.

Froch and Matchroom? Sorry, where can Matchroom point to a recent history of fighting the best bar sending Barker out to the States on a suicide mission? The Bute fight was excellent work by Hearn but Froch, Bellew and Brooks opponents are all poor - especially given that we are now in a new era of "mega fights and stacked undercards" :o

Also is there any chance Boxrec News could start editing the Matchroom pressers that keep getting published in the news section. I think Matchroom can afford their own PR machine..........

Interesting. obliged is the American version of obliged. Maybe you can use obliged unfettered in the Current Scene

I don't think it pisses on Bellew or Murat.
OK fair enough they were decent fights but Murat was before he won the title and Bellew however I like him at the time was top domestic level (with the potential to be world class) imo

Some of the conspiracy theories are great :D

Fact is, Froch absolutely destroyed a fighter that was ranked #1 or #2 by many at 168lb a couple of months ago.

Because of this nobody fancies coming to Nottingham and have basically put in a 'f*ck off I'm not interested' quote for their services.

They broke the bank to bring Bute, and won't break it again for someone who wasn't on Bute's reputation level coming in.

It is what it is: Froch stays active, his fans get a nottingham show, his profile is maintained on the tv.

It's a treading water fight and not a new trend. Give him a break.

All that needs to be said on the matter really.

It does.

BOXREC NEWS

Matchroom Sport has announced a two-year deal which makes it the principal boxing promoter on Sky Sports. Matchroom will stage 20 shows per season, with the first event of the new deal on September 8 at the Alexandra Palace. Tony Bellew’s clash with Edison Miranda tops the ‘London Calling’ bill, which features five title fights.

Five shows are already lined up before December. Carl Frampton defends his Commonwealth and IBF Inter-Continental titles against two-time World champion Steve Molitor on September 22 in Belfast with support from Paul McCloskey taking on WBA Manuel Perez, Martin Lindsay challenging Lee Selby for the British and Commonwealth featherweight titles and Eamonn O’Kane taking on Craig Windsor Jr. for the Celtic super middleweight title.

Arguably the best ever Prizefighter series line-up sees Anthony Crolla, Derry Mathews and Gary Sykes face-off for the Lightweights II trophy in Liverpool on October 6, where Rocky Fielding boxes for his first pro title in Betfair’s ‘Rocky and the Prizefighters’.

On October 20 Kell Brook faces Hector Saldivia at the Motorpoint Arena Sheffield in a final eliminator to take mandatory position for the IBF welterweight title. Jamie McDonnell is also in an IBF  eliminator against South African bantamweight Vusi Malinga. Then on November 17 in Betfair’s ‘True Brit’, Carl Froch defends his IBF super middleweight title against Yusaf Mack at the Capital FM Arena.

“I am delighted that Matchroom has reached this ground-breaking agreement with Sky Sports,” said Hearn. “The future of boxing for fight fans and TV viewers is deeper bills with more title fights and more competitive fights in packed out arenas.

“We have a great stable of talent at Matchroom Sport and they will benefit from regular boxing at high-profile, atmospheric events, as our leading lights Carl Froch, Kell Brook, Darren Barker, Gavin Rees and Carl Frampton fight in huge title fights in the coming seasons.

“Sky Sports and Matchroom Sport want to deliver across the board for fight fans. We are looking to develop close relationships with fighters, promoters and international broadcasters to ensure an exciting future for the sport of boxing on Sky Sports.”

PRESS RELEASE

Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Sport are delighted to announce that they have signed a two-year deal to be the principal boxing promoter on Sky Sports, with the World’s leading online betting exchange Betfair teaming up with the promoters as official partner.

Matchroom Boxing will stage 20 shows in both seasons with the first event of the new deal taking place on September 8 at the Alexandra Palace in north London as Tony Bellew’s clash with Edison Miranda in Betfair’s ‘London Calling’ tops a huge bill with five title fights.

Hearn says that the big night of action at Ally Pally is just the first in a series of shows that will have viewers on the edge of their seats over the next two years, with five stellar shows already lined up before December.

Carl Frampton defends his Commonwealth and IBF Inter-Continental titles against two-time World champion Steve Molitor on September 22 in Belfast in Betfair’s ‘Judgement Day’, with support from Paul McCloskey taking on WBA no. nine Manuel Perez, Martin Lindsay challenging Lee Selby for the British and Commonwealth featherweight titles and Eamonn O’Kane taking on Craig Windsor Jr. for the Celtic super middleweight title.

The best ever Prizefighter series line-up sees Anthony Crolla, Derry Mathews and Gary Sykes face-off for the Lightweights II trophy in Liverpool on October 6 where Rocky Fielding boxes for his first pro title in Betfair’s ‘Rocky and the Prizefighters’.

Kell Brook takes the final step towards a World title on October 20 as he faces Hector Saldivia in a final eliminator for the mandatory position for the IBF welterweight title at the Motorpoint Arena Sheffield in Betfair’s ‘This Is It’, where Jamie McDonnell is also in an IBF World title final eliminator against South African bantamweight Vusi Malinga.

Carl Froch boxes for the first time as a three-time World champion on November 17 in Betfair’s ‘True Brit’, defending his IBF super middleweight title against Yusaf Mack at the Capital FM Arena where he produced a stunning KO win over Lucian Bute.

“Sky Sports and Matchroom Sport want to deliver across the board for fight fans – broadcast quality shows, use Ringside Sky Sports News and skysports.com to build our boxers, and help create new heroes. We are looking to develop close relationships with fighters, promoters and international broadcasters to ensure an exciting future for the sport of boxing on Sky Sports.”

Betfair are already heavily involved in professional boxing as the title sponsor of the Betfair Prizefighter series, and have shown they are committed to grassroots boxing with their backing of the British Amateur Boxing Association. The deal will see Betfair play a role as title sponsor at all of Matchroom Boxing’s upcoming fight nights.

And that is how I saw it when I first read it as well. It is a good keep busy fight that keeps active and in front of his fans in home city and his name and profile on television and the print and electronic media. And he has earnt such a fight after his run.

I expect Froch to dominate him and win conclusively.

If I'm honest I am a disappointed with Mack as an opponent for Froch. I know Carl is entitled to take his foot off the gas a little, but I can't help but feel let down and bit.

Especially considering the tastier options that were mentioned a few months back - a rematch against Kessler & a fight against Pavlik.

We don't know that those guys were offered fights but turned them down based on it being in Nottingham tho. It's all well and good Pavlik saying he would take the fight to a camera, you can bet he wouldn't answer that quickly when actually faced with the paperwork. I'll bet Pavlik's next fight is against someone most of us won't have heard of too.

I certainly don't blame Froch himself for this, he has been a road warrior and deserves a few home fights. I must say I am disappointed though in the opponent, I'll still go to the fight if I can get tickets cheap enough, but not gona be that bothered if I don't.

4 KO defeats on the Mack slate, it's not great stuff.
