Lacy vs Pemberton signed

Fightnews are reporting the Lacy will fight WBC #1 Scott Pemberton on November 5th at a venue to be decided. It will be shown on Showtime.

Looks like Shaw wasn't lying when he said he had a decent opponent on standby should Calzaghe pull out.

He is as old as the hills but decent enough, there are certainly worse getting put in for a title shot.

I just feel at his age and being out for so long that Shaw may just have played a blinder once more.

Robin Reids name on Lacy`s CV looks decent but there was a lot of back ground that made a difference, Pemberton should really have had a warm-up first but being so dangerous as he can be he isn`t going to get any favours is he...over a year out and 6weeks more less to get ready..it does all favour Lacy.

Still after what calzaghe served up for us we can`t complain

So what happened to Kessler??? I never heard a peep from Lacy/Shaw. They were willing to sign a deal with Calzaghe only a week or so ago for Nov 5th, so why not with Kessler? As Lacy pointed out himself, he had already started light training for Calzaghe so there should not have been a problem.

Whats it they say about the pot & the kettle.......... if they talk the talk, they should walk the walk!

P.S i'm not a Calzaghe fan

Pemberton better than Calzaghe – you're 'avin a laugh mate!

Pemberton was the boss of Omar Sheikh who was given a right working over by JC, and that was when Sheikh had something to offer.

Lacy's overrated and once he fights a real live opponent, ie a prepared JC, he'll get exposed.

According to what I have read, Kessler wanted ridiculous money to fight Lacy. So open letters arent worth a toss if your demands are not realistic. You can hardly compare Lacy to Calzaghe that is very unfair, Lacy is looking to make hard fights it seems. Calzaghe talked about fighting Pemberton for the best part of a year but then got Ashira in for September!

With all the crap being hurled at Calzaghe at the moment, don't forget the the other side of the deal, with Lacy and Shaw fail to mention:

SN offered Lacy a Sep fight with Joe, asking them to skip the Reid warm up and go straight for a unification, which they declined.

Can you blame them for that? They had a fight lined up already with Reid, why deny him his shot. And Reid was the #1 contender for the IBF.

They obviously dont find it as easy to cancel fights and let people down as Calzaghe's camp!

I'm not blaming them Nick, it's a payday, just like Joe's warm up was.
Just pointing out it's not so cut and dried as Shaw makes out, when he says Joe is ducking his man.

It's the fans who lose with all these warmups that go pair shaped of course.

I think its commendable they didnt just toss Reid to the side to fight Calzaghe. Obviously thats something Calzaghe would have done without a second thought but what about the guy who was training for the original bout i.e. Reid? I'm pleased Lacy went through with it. Its never that clearcut but come on, Lacy's fight was 3 months before their due fight, Calzaghe known to be injury prone was 8 weeks before. There was only ever a slim possibility of November happening if he fought in September and they knew it all along but they still went through with it. They have to take the blame. And the September bout was completely pointless, Calzaghe could have got tougher sparring in preperation for Lacy in November, what sort of "tuneup" was Ashira?

Well, the converse to that is that you can't blame them for having a tune up with Calzaghe's history of pulling out through injury.

Lacy fought Reid a month before Calzaghe's tune up. Calzaghe's tune up was a bit too close for comfort. I mean even a minor injury which meant no sparring/training for a couple of weeks would have jepordised the fight. Lacy had 4-6 weeks extra to recover from any injuries in the Reid fight.

Lacy's timing for a "tune up" (it was a mandatory defence vs a worthy opponent) was okay, but Calzaghe's was too close. I mean a cut or a hand strain would have jepordised the fight.

I am glad Pemberton has got a chance at a world title finally, after beating Sheika twice and then watching him go on and get the opportunities must be hard for the guy to take and then when his match with Green fell through well...gutted.

Hmm, thinking about it, this could be an interesting fight. Pemberton should have significant advantages in height and reach, and has good long punches not to mention a good dig on him.

the calzaghe/lacy fight falling thru was all fornicating money again.

the ashira date was a nice little earner and itv in town to show it.

they should have scrapped it and prepared for november 5th. couldn't resist an extra payday could they.
