Only reason I asked is because I haven't seen that in quite a while, and the KD against Howard was described as the first of SRL's career.
Of course, the first KD v. Tyson was described as the first of Spinks's career, which it wasn't.

It was legit, unlike Roldan for Hagler, but Ray wasn't hurt. A lot of times you'll hear descriptions like that, many people forget that Banks dropped Clay and Isaac dropped Holmes.

LOL, just watched it again. It was bullshit, never mind. Ruled official doesn't make it so.

That "KD" really made Marv mad. Poor Roldan. He could beat a bear but not Hagler.
Re: Best Chins in boxing History
Speaking of middleweights, Briscoe deserves a mention. Only ever stopped by huge puncher Valdez, though I think Rafael Gutierrez KD'd him late in his career.

Although he is 6ft 8. I would chuck Vitali K in the mix as well when you watch the Lennox Lewis fight and I remember seeing him get rocked a couple of times by Corrie Sanders as well. I also thrown in Arturo Gatti in as well because of the trilogy with Micky Ward and you might as well say the best gut as well because Ward sliced him in half and the beatings at the hands of De La Hoya and Mayweather.

Tex Cobb.

Jose Luis Castillo.
Never down until a Hatton body shot 60 or so fights into his career. Took gargantuan shots flush from Corrales.

Three more bantamish fighters:
Orlando Canizales (was he ever down?)
Tapia (never KD'd until at FW, and that was a flash against hard puncher Soto)
Gerry Penalosa (if you want to see his chin, watch the Juanma fight and the insane punishment he took)

Re: Best Chins in boxing History
I haven't seen The Body Snatcher on here yet, but he deserves to be. Never down until he wass a past-prime light heavyweight v. Tiozo.

Re: Best Chins in boxing History
How about Limon? Never down despite bombs from Arguello. Took many from Choi (huge puncher), Edwards and Chacon (over four fights) but never KO'd by any of them. And the Navarrete fight was a clinic on absorbing punishment and wearing down the opponent in the later rounds.
Re: Best Chins in boxing History
As much of an idiot as he was, Camacho had a terrific chin.
Fighters who couldn't KD him include Limon, Ramirez, Rosario, Chavez, and Tito. Oscar finally did it in 97, but even then Camacho still went the distance. Never KO'd to this day. And it wasn't just because of his movement. Rosario, Chavez, and Tito hit him plenty of flush shots.

How about Tua? He faced many big punchers and didn't go down until finally against Barrett a few fights ago.
Lewis...Rahman...Maskaev...Ike...deserves a mention.

Re: Best Chins in boxing History
Was Qawi ever down at light heavy? He wasn't in the fights I've seen, including against huge punchers Spinks and Saad (past-prime though he was). Also was the only man to take Holyfield the distance in a cruiser title fight.
Re: Best Chins in boxing History
Carbajal deserves a mention. To my knowledge, only down twice in his career v. huge puncher Gonzalez in a fight he came back to win. Only stopped once, and that was on cuts by Matlala. Even in his last fight, he took a beating from the very hard-punching Arce (and he still is!) before coming back to score the KO.
Cobb Castro also deserves props here. He went the distance with Carbajal and Chiquita twice without ever having gone down, and he fought competitively each time. Finally, Arce got him in their rematch. (The first fight was a TD.)
But that took approximately 80 fights and was against a huge puncher.
We can't forget the little giants.

Starling should be mentioned. Never down against Curry twice, Brown, Honeygan, Nunn, Breland twice, etc.
And the Molinares "KO" was correctly changed. Being knocked out after the bell doesn't count.

Re: Best Chins in boxing History
Forgot Glen Johnson. Never down despite the top comp he faced.
Re: Best Chins in boxing History
Does Hopkins belong on here? He faced some very big punchers, but he was down twice in his prime v. Mercado plus the Pascal KDs, and he had that defense that prevented many shots from landing.
Thoughts?

Re: Best Chins in boxing History
Marcos Villasana. He showed it v. Azumah.
Re: Best Chins in boxing History
Was Laciar ever down? I don't recall his ever having hit the canvas, but there are plenty here more informed than I.
He was never KO'd. Given the comp he fought and a 100-fight career, he certainly would merit a mention.

At cruiser, how about Jeff Lampkin. Don't think he was ever down at that weight.

He came to mind for me as well. A limited fighter with endless heart, grit and determination, it was amazing to watch the amount of punishment that he could absorb.Rover wrote:How about Limon?
