Kevin Kelley v. Tom Johnson.

Post by Rover »

Two American featherweights (rare) who were champs at the same time who never unified. How would it have gone?
I think Johnson would've squeaked out a close decision.

I think Kelley, focussed and listening to that guy I really like in his corner, the insane guy, Italian, you know?

well if he listens to his corner, moves and stays behind the jab, I think he is flexible and skilled enough to outpoint a fighter in Boom Boom who seemed a little heavyfooted and plodding, his kind of deliberate style (albeit backed by considerable strength) should be meat and drink to someone with Kelley's skillset IMO.

of course, Kelley would actually probably lose concentration, get knocked down heavily in the fourth, and engage in 4 or 5 rounds of thrilling war before succumbing.

and the Italian guy in the corner would be going mental the whole time.

Borgia, who not only rocked a cool 'tache (& seemed to love & understand his fighter) but also was named after a family of Mediaeval poisoners! & spent a lot of his time when you'd expect him to be calm being hysterical & just when you expected him to go ballistic he'd be eerily calm. Top bloke.

I also concur that KK would be far too sharp & skilled for the rather plodding Johnson. He'd definitely have to pick himself up off the floor a shitload of times, though. I'd have loved to have seen it. I loves me some Kevin Kelley. Under-rated warlord he was.

& I'm going to post a Kevin Kelley vs Kennedy McKinney (too many Ks) thread at some point, just watch... But it'll have to wait until I've got a good hour spare to write a big fvck-off essay on why I loved them both so much.

& to rhapsodise about both men's facial hair. Natch.

I guarantee Johnson would throw about a thousand lead right hands to the body, getting either countered or beaten to the punch at least 75% of them
