Alex Garcia v. Chris Arreola.

Post by Rover »

Garcia was the Arreola of the early 90's (a Mexican-American heavyweight who was a top contender; I believe he reached #3). Anyway, he turned down a huge payday v. Foreman and got starched by Mike Dixon. Within a few months, he'd had a draw with James Warring and been stopped in 2 by Garing Lane.
He then lost wide decisions to Joe Hipp and Buster Mathis. He was done after that.
Anyway, for those that remember him, how would a fight with him and Arreola have gone?
I think Arreola would've KO'd him; better chin.
Garcia went life and death with Eric Curry just prior to the Dixon loss, so that was a warning sign.

Arreola by ko. Garcia had a glass jaw. Him passing on the Foreman fight has to rank as one of the all time greatest bone-head career decisions.

Arreola's shit. But Garcia was awful. I mean, awful. Had he been around today he's the calibre of fighter that Arreola would've feasted on.

Feasted on like all those lovely burritos.

Maybe not.
Imagine what would have happened to Garcia's head had that been Big George instead of Dixon.
:)
Seriously, I remember after the Dixon fight when there was a lot of concern about Garcia because he banged his head so hard, and they were fighting outside at the Riviera on the roof, so he smacked his head against cement.

Agree with the above; both bad but Garcia was worse.

Arreola seems much more durable. Score one for the current crop of HWs.
