Membership body for the true fans.....

Post by TopGun »

Just a thought but it would be good if the board could offer some kind of membership for the true boxing fans. A chance to also have our say on certain rules and regulations. Also with the chance of getting discounted tickets to British title fights?

I'm sure the main promoters would be keen to link up, it could benefit all involved.

Costs could be as low as £10 a year. Off the top of my head, for that you could get:

- % off tickets to British title fights with selected promoters or access to better seats at fights.
- Chance to vote on an bi-annual poll of what new rules the board should discuss at their next AGM
- Interactive forum
- Discount on merchandise and training gear at selected stores

It may just be a pipe dream but it would be good to have a small impact in what I believe to be the best and the worst (boxing politics) sport in the world.

That, is quite a good idea indeed.

Membership could extend to access to press conferences and other perks.

By return, promoters could email there press releases in a weekly members email. Raffle tickets and stuff in member-only promotions.

Sounds good in theory but in reality I doubt it would work. You couldn't have fans voting on rules etc. This should be strictly down to licence holders who own the company. I'd also be interested to here what the promoters thought about discount ticket prices too. British title fights usually tend to sell themselves so I doubt the promoter would benefit from reducing the price of tickets they could probably sell for full price. I'm sure if they looked at it on a fight by fight basis (which means if sales were going bad for a particular fight) they could, if they wished amend prices to suit. The Board just administer the sport really and cannot stipulate prices or discounts for tickets. Press conferences are for........ well the press, not the public really so I don't see promoters letting any tom Dick or harry into those either. Sorry if it sounds negative. Perhaps joining a certain promotional outfits fan club would be a better idea?

Agree 100%, even the members have difficulty, having a say. It's not the true boxing fans the promoters are trying to attract, but the casual fan who only comes to fights for the big occasions or once in a blue moon.

This would require basic organisation skills and a willingness for people to work together. Therefore...

Throw in access to the round card girls' phone numbers and I'm in.
