Great call. That was a complete and steady beating from the second round on with power-shot after power-shot bouncing off of Obelmejias' headRover wrote:Hagler-Obelmejias I also was very ugly.

That was brutal i remember Hamed refused to knock him out because Brendan Ingle told him to finish the fightMatt W wrote:Although I haven't seen it wasn't Ali - Patterson 1 a bad one? Ali - Terrell too; Ali deliberately punished them for calling him Clay.
Douglas -Tyson, not only one of the biggest upsets in history but also a pasting.
Hearns - Andries, the way Hearns bashed him around was pretty amazing given Hearns was a skinny welterweight.
Hamed - Badillo.
Michael Watson was dishing out a bad beating to Chris Eubank until 1 shot changed their lives.

This was so funny, I got soda up my nose when reading it. But that describes it perfectly.

Credit where credit's due, that was Glyn Leach (the editor of Boxing Monthly) who used the phrase in his fight report. But it's stayed with me, vividly so, down the years.BoxBuzz wrote:Datsue wrote:"Like watching a toddler walk into a threshing machine."Matt W wrote:How about Barrera vs Paul Lloyd? 12 rounds of punishment in 3 brutal minutes!

Great writing can do that. I can still quote the opening three or four lines of Lolita, off the top of my head, though I haven't read the book in years. Sound & The Fury, Slaughterhouse Five, too.
Oh, & Neuromancer, by William Gibson, too. But I shouldn't say that one out loud. If you love writing & love boxing, then the memorable ones stay with you forever.

I remember around the same time that Wenton got a bit of a doing from Marco. Saw that live, too.

I agree and in front of 132,347 Mexican to boot at the Azteca Stadium who wish to see their beloved Icon . JC Snr was really throwing those left hooks to the body with alot more venom than he normally did and when you watch it even 19 years ago the shots to the body make you wince.Rover wrote:Poor Haugen...learned what happened when JCC got angry. King sure put on some deep cards. Tito, Alli, and McClellan weren't even televised. Badillo and Vargas became good contenders, especially Vargas.

ha, nice call. normally posts on this thread would be onesided beatings, but of course, especially in the 3rd fight, these two just beat the daylights out of each other. evey time you see it, you marvel at it.IRLangmaid25 wrote:The Vazquez v Rafa Marquez series were utterly horrific as they were absorbing as well. Pryor-Arguello and Chavez-Taylor have been mentioned, and those fights weren't one-sided.
Re: Worst beatings in Boxing
Chiquita-Sorjaturong. Both of them looked like they'd lost a fight with a machine (Chiquita's cuts and Saman's swelling). Another classic put on by the little giants. Saman took a vicious beating, especially to the body, before coming back.

Re: Worst beatings in Boxing
Indeed there may be examples of two sided terrible beatings. I've oftend pondered a hypothetical fight between Holyfield and Frazier where neither comes out a winner even if someones hand was raised.
I'm sure there must be examples in boxing where you just wouldn't want to be either man at the final bell.

vic darchinyan-rodrigo guerrero - thank god rodrigo has a chin because he took some serious punishment against vic and kept coming..i mean vic teed off him and landing flush i was having flashbacks of his fight with burgos watching it...thank good guerrero left in one piece

Are you saying Vitali should've cared about Briggs? I understand the ref, the doctor, and Briggs's corner.
If that's not your argument, let me know.
I do not want compassionate fighters in the ring.
I want ruthless killers who will inflict as much damage as they can (within the rules of the sport; I'm opposed to rabbit punches, intentional butting, etc.).
I do not want fighters to show kindness to their opponents. The opponent is there to be destroyed within the rules of the sport.
Again, if this wasn't your argument (that Vitali should've eased up on Briggs), let me know; I don't want to refute an argument that wasn't made.

i thought vitali should have eased up on briggs like how pac did with margarito if the fight is no longer competitive..i like brutal fights not brutal and severe one sided beatdowns..my opinion thoughRover wrote:Just to clarify:patscorpio wrote:in recent times

Re: Worst beatings in Boxing
I thought that what Pac did v. Margachito and DLH was pathetic. It isn't a fighter's job to be nice to the opponent. It's the ref's job, the corner's, the doctor's, the commission's job to be worried about the opponent, not a fighter's. If the ref, the doctor, the commission, etc. hasn't stopped the fight, pound away, I say.

Re: Worst beatings in Boxing
there was nothing wrong about the dlh stoppage..oscar got his ass whooped and his corner stopped it while dlh was sitting on the stool deflated and badly beaten not saying a word..now if they didnt stop it pacquaio would have prolly ended it in the next 2 roundsRover wrote:I thought that what Pac did v. No, I'm saying it was pathetic that Pac eased up on Oscar in the last round. He was quoted as saying he felt pity for Oscar.patscorpio wrote:there was nothing wrong about the dlh stoppage..oscar got his ass whooped and his corner stopped it while dlh was sitting on the stool deflated and badly beaten not saying a word..now if they didnt stop it pacquaio would have prolly ended it in the next 2 roundsRover wrote:I thought that what Pac did v.
