Greatest Ring Entrances ever......
Greatest Ring Entrances ever......
and im including those that were ruined on TV by Jim Watt shouting over them
1) Carl Froch-Bute "No Easy Way Out".....only thing that could have supassed it is if next time they have a giant screen playing a video of Carl driving at night in a car with flashbacks in the background of him and his fights intersped with shots of him and Rachel Cordingley on a motorbike...
2) Klitchko-Haye....very classy in a respectful German way.
3) Tyson -Spinks...Tysons was basic and intimidating
4) Nigel Benn to Conroy Smiths "dangerous" before the Eubanks fight.
5) Oliver Mccall anytime he ran into the ring!!

Re: Greatest Ring Entrances ever......
Benn vs McClellan, so much simmering intensity from both men.
A personal favourite was Holyfield vs Tyson 1. I'd waited so long to see it and it was being viewed as a mismatch but Holyfield looked like he couldn't wait to grt it on, in great contrast to Tyson's last 2 opponents.
Hagler vs Leonard, Sugar Ray looking stylish and flashy in his satin jacket, Hagler looking menacing as ever as 'War' piped out of the speakers.
Hamed vs Robinson, thousands of angry Welshmen booing and gobbling on Naz as he lapped it up and danced his way to the ring.
Not one for gimmicks personally.
Incidentally, has anyone else noticed that that whenever someon runs to the ringthe tend to lose? McCall vs Bruno, Tyson vs Holyfield, Maccarinelli vs Haye...

Oops, that should say 'gobbing' on Naz, damn autocorrect! Now THAT would have been a ring entrance....
Re: Greatest Ring Entrances ever......
My personal favorites have been Jean Pascal for the Hopkins rematch, I know he lost the fight, but I like the entrance and the song picks were cool.
Roy Jones' entrance for the Clinton Woods fight was pretty memorable. More memorable than the one sided fight.

What about his ring entrance for the Kelly fight ("Y'all Musta Forgot")?gilgamesh wrote:My personal favorites have been Jean Pascal for the Hopkins rematch, I know he lost the fight, but I like the entrance and the song picks were cool.

I liked Hopkins's music better before the second Pascal fight (the refurbishment of that old classic).
Re: Greatest Ring Entrances ever......
Forget what fight it was but Hamed came in on a magic flying carpet that was cool. Roy Jones came in with Method Man n Redman n of them was hiding behind a curtain n suprised the crowd

Think that was Hamed-Bungu.scallum wrote:Forget what fight it was but Hamed came in on a magic flying carpet that was cool. Roy Jones came in with Method Man n Redman n of them was hiding behind a curtain n suprised the crowd
Re: Greatest Ring Entrances ever......

My favourite is the one where Eubank stood on the ring apron staring out at 15,000 hostile Germans, just nodding at them. it looks like a man is trying to psych out 15,000 people, brilliant.

Yeah, that was pretty good.
Like him or loathe him, the atmosphere at his fights was always pretty good and he always got the attention when it came to his entrance.
I seem to remember one where he came in on a harley.
Public attitude towards him changed once he lost, there were a lot more people cheering him on than jeering him.

Re: Greatest Ring Entrances ever......
i was in the minority cheering him on vs Benn, for reasons I can't recall now as I loved benn. probably just underdogging. then the slightly farcical WBO reign, with the Cat fights redeeming him in just about everybody's eyes.
Re: Greatest Ring Entrances ever......
Didn't Alex Rios come in on a horse v. Raul Marquez?
I know Arce rode a motorcycle into the ring v. Makepula.

Re: Greatest Ring Entrances ever......
I always like how The Fans of Hatton would all be singing that song in unison I bet that helped fire him up
Re: Greatest Ring Entrances ever......
And he then came into that stupid song v. Pac; never understood that. It was a derivation of "Walkin' in a Winter Wonderland."scallum wrote:I always like how The Fans of Hatton would all be singing that song in unison I bet that helped fire him up

@ Rover: it's a traditional football terrace-chant thing. The name of the wunderkind football player or manager gets substituted (hence "Hatton wonderland"). People have done it for years.

I just don't know why there was the deviation in the ring entrance for Pac from his usual "Blue Moon."Datsue wrote:@ Rover: it's a traditional football terrace-chant thing. Re: Greatest Ring Entrances ever......
Old school Jack Dempsey. Comin in there no frills. Guy looked like a fighter.
Modern times,Hagler. I liked the hooded robe, shadowboxing down the aisle. It looked like impending doom.

.....expug.....good shout out. for me it's joe louis walking down the aisle, purple robe, no finery. and that deadpan no-expression face, while the opponent waiting in the ring wishing he had listened to his mother and got an education.. ![[icon_e_sad.gif] :verysad:](./images/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif)

Yes, Joe with that deadpan expression was unnerving for a lot of his opponents Im sure.
Fighters get in the ring and look at the other guys face. Looking for a little fear, maybe some distraction, even overconfidence. If the other guy is expressionless it unsettles a bit.

great point, almost everyone 'shows' somehow in their body language, you can't get a read off a guy who doesn't.
Re: Greatest Ring Entrances ever......
It gives the impression that your opponent has done this a million times, its no big deal. He's confident that he can do the job and doesn't have to act any certain way. Its like a walk in the park. He isn't nervous at all.
Meanwhile, from the time you sign to fight a guy, your goin to bed every night thinking about fighting that guy. Your staring at the ceiling at 3 am. Then you get in the ring and he looks like he hasn't even thought about it. For him its when and where,Ill see you then.
When you get to that point, your a pro's pro.
