Re: Froch turned down 1 million pounds! to fight Cleverley
The fact he is outlining that Froch ahs never been paid that kind of purse before and STILL turned-down the fight shows that Froch is not in it for the money and Cleverley is not a formidable oppoant for him.
The reason Froch is fighting Mack is a warm-up for Bute, which is fair enough. He has never had an easy/warm-up fight and it gives him a chance to really box, use his skills and keep him oiled up for what may be a tough rematch!
Froch doesn't care about the pay-out of a Cleverley fight. Ward, Kessler, Abraham, Pavlik Stevenson and even Dawson and Dirrell are all more desirable/better opponant are Froch right now... Cleverely has never fought anyone of those guys levels or is even near until he stops fighting fringe guys.
As B-Hop stated, would Rabbit stop using real champions' names to try to promote their bum title holder Nate Cleverley!

All boxers are in it for the money, why do you think Froch was chasing Calzaghe for the best part of his career. He new he wouldn't beat him?
You can warm up for a fight by sparring, rather than facing a punch bag in front of a few thousand people.
I think given Froch's age he hasn't got that many big fights left in him, so I personally see this as a waste of his time. When he could be facing a better opponent (Cleverly) and make more money in the process and give a fight that would interest not just his fans but boxing fans in this country in general.

Re: Froch turned down 1 million pounds! to fight Cleverley
Sorry, what has Clev done to prove he's a significantly better opponent than Mack? Being handed a belt for being in the right place at the right time while having supportive promotional connections doesn't make you a worthy champion. If Fwank wants Froch to fight Cleverly, make it so it's impossible to avoid. How do you do that? By making Cleverly a relevant and recognised champion. Nathan needs to beat one of the top guys at 175 before he can credibly start calling out the likes of Froch.wadey wrote:All boxers are in it for the money, why do you think Froch was chasing Calzaghe for the best part of his career. Re: Froch turned down 1 million pounds! to fight Cleverley
People keep saying that Froch hasn't earned great money and that the million pound purse would have been a massive pay day. I was surprised that Froch had not been earning that much before. Does anyone know what his purse against Ward was?

Re: Froch turned down 1 million pounds! to fight Cleverley
Cleverly has not proved he is better than Mack, it wold also mean Carl moving up in weight when he already walks around at the super mid limit no problem.
Froch chased Joe because it was his way of getting to the top quick. Did he think he could beat him? No doubt. The mans mental strength is one of his assets. He didn't deserve to fight Joe until he beat Pascal but by then Joe didn't seem interested in the game anymore.
Clev doesn't deserve to fight Carl. Mack is lucky to be getting his shot but it's who Froch and his team have selected as a keep busy bout before Bute away and then hopefully Kessler at home.
If Clev wants the fight so bad then maybe he should move down in weight in order to get it? Even then Carl probably wouldn't entertain it given he has much bigger and better fish to fry.

Firstly, of course their in it for money but Froch would rather fight a great opponant for less money the million quid from Warren is not a factorwadey wrote:All boxers are in it for the money, why do you think Froch was chasing Calzaghe for the best part of his career. He new he wouldn't beat him?

Secondly, Froch couldv'e faced noone before Bute, there's not a great deal of time between the two fights. Everyone fights a punchbag every now and then. Froch can never be accused of that so fair play to him
Froch potentially has three or more years left (if he wants). He has the body of a 27 year old! If Cleverley fights and beats Hopkins, then there is more reason to fight him... right now there is none
Re: Froch turned down 1 million pounds! to fight Cleverley
I didn't realise that Mack had made it impossible for Froch to avoid him any longer.earsjohn wrote:Sorry, what has Clev done to prove he's a significantly better opponent than Mack? Come on we all know that Cleverly would give Froch a much sterner test than what Mac would do at any stage of his career.
Re: Froch turned down 1 million pounds! to fight Cleverley
Well if there is no reason at the moment for Froch to fight Cleverly, other than its a fight that will make him a huge sum of money, and it is a fight that would please his fans.danconnollyeire wrote:Firstly, of course their in it for money but Froch would rather fight a great opponant for less money the million quid from Warren is not a factorwadey wrote:All boxers are in it for the money, why do you think Froch was chasing Calzaghe for the best part of his career. Then surely there is a less than zero reason for him to fight Mack?

Re: Froch turned down 1 million pounds! to fight Cleverley
How do we know Cleverly gives him a tougher test than Mack? Nathan has not shown he would be a tougher opponent.
The reason Carl is firing Mack is to stay busy before Bute, it's at his natural weight and well, because he wants to! Simple really.

And following your argument through the reason for Cleverly fighting Kuziemski, Karpency and Uzelkov is what?wadey wrote:Well if there is no reason at the moment for Froch to fight Cleverly, other than its a fight that will make him a huge sum of money, and it is a fight that would please his fans.danconnollyeire wrote:Firstly, of course their in it for money but Froch would rather fight a great opponant for less money the million quid from Warren is not a factorwadey wrote:All boxers are in it for the money, why do you think Froch was chasing Calzaghe for the best part of his career. Froch never wanted to fight Mack, there were lots of fighters that turned this fight down. Pavlik included.....yiddo14 wrote:How do we know Cleverly gives him a tougher test than Mack? Nathan has not shown he would be a tougher opponent.

Maybe he wasn't first choice but he was on the list and an opponent Carl seems willing to fight.wadey wrote:Froch never wanted to fight Mack, there were lots of fighters that turned this fight down. Not the greatest opponent ever but neither would Cleverly have been and Mack is fighting at super mid too which is Carl's weight.
Forget Carl and Bellew, why aren't they making big offers to Pascal, Cloud, Hopkins etc? I guess it's because these fights would end the same way as a Clev-Carl fight yet the interest wouldn't be as hi nor as much money to be made.
Re: Froch turned down 1 million pounds! to fight Cleverley
Yiddo - You can look at any boxers career and frown upon some of their opponents. But looking at the now, it would appear that Froch's camp turned down the chance to accept a huge fight that the fans would like to see, and thats a shame?

Given the rumours about Frank W's financial position, maybe Froch decided he'd take a fight where he knew he was guaranteed to get paid at the end of it!

In addition, why would Froch want to fight on allegedly ?
There is also a further question to be asked - options.
Was this a straight £1m no conditions ?
Bet your bottom dollar the answer is no.

Huge fight? Nothing like it. About as important in the grand scheme of things as Froch v Mack.wadey wrote:Yiddo - You can look at any boxers career and frown upon some of their opponents. It's a battle of Britain, which always captures a certain amount of imagination with the public but in reality it would be Froch moving up a weight to fight a top 15 light heavy for a paper title.
I like both fighters but I'm not particularly interested in seeing Froch batter Nathan and ruin his career before it even gets started ( look what happened to Enzo when he thought he was ready for someone like Haye, he never recovered and Enzo was more proven than Nathan currently is )
Re: Froch turned down 1 million pounds! to fight Cleverley
Not a huge fight?? I think 99% of uk boxing fans would much prefer to see Froch v Cleverly as opposed to Mack....

How to you know it's nothing? Have you ever been Carl Froch or walked around in his body. If someone walks about at that weight all of their adult life... 7lbs can be a huge difference. Some people feel bloated or slugish. If his body adapts quickly to 7lbs can may feel drained losing it
You clearly have no idea
Re: Froch turned down 1 million pounds! to fight Cleverley
12 stone isnt Froch's normal weight and i'll think you'll find, he doesn't get down to that weight until probably a week before the fight.
May be i don't have any idea, like wise what makes you think you do?

Re: Froch turned down 1 million pounds! to fight Cleverley
Not saying it's a walk-in-the-park... Clev needs to fight credable opponant before calling out someone like FrochCasio wrote:By my reckoning the offer to Hearn/Froch was made after he destroyed Bute hence why it was such a large offer, therefore why couldn't this fight have taken place instead of Mack and therefore prior to the Bute rematch?
Froch has previously stated he would go up to LHW to face Pascal. It seems like the 'I aint going up a weight' is used when it suits.
I undertand the offer being turned down if Froch wants to stay at SMW but it has been stated it was an offer with no add ons apparently so that blows that argument out of the water. And also more importantly it wasn't for Froch SMW title obviously so win or lose he could still have fought back at SMW against Bute defending his belt.
Everyone seems to think it would be a walk in the park for Froch, would you take it for 1 mill (if it really was that simple and straight forward)?
Re: Froch turned down 1 million pounds! to fight Cleverley
I think your clutching a little bit pal. One minute you are saying its because of the weight issue, and then because Clev hasn't fought a credible opponent..danconnollyeire wrote:Not saying it's a walk-in-the-park...
