Yes he is. He is undoubtedly a better opponent choice than Mack. Look at the interest Groves Degale caused, Haye Chisora, the public love a high profile all British fight, a fight with Clev would have been far better for Froch's career than a fight with Mack just for the publicity alone, not to mention fighting for a world title at a second weight. No-one is questioning Carl's record, and I don't think anyone has a problem with the Mack fight because of his previous exploits, but no-one can seriously claim he is a better choice of opponent than Clev.
Nope. Cleverly beat Mack? I ain't putting money on it unless its on an allegedly bill with an allegedly promotion.

Don't get duped

That ain't no world title either. Embarrassing. The biggest paper holder in the sport

Mack has fought people possessing a pulse, which carries a risk of defeat, which affects rankings.

Make Mack British, promoted by allegedly, give him the paper title and he carries as much weight as Clev.

Again, don't get duped. If he wasn't British or promoted by allegedly he would not even be discussed.

This only works in Warren's favour and he knows it.

He knew there was a huge chance Matchroom would say no, so the publicity helps. Secondly, it gets some boxing fans questioning why Froch should turn this match up against a fellow, British World  Champion (though that notion is laughable, to be honest). And thirdly, if they had said 'Yes', Warren has 2 choices, either he takes it and Nathan gets pummelled or he declines it and cites some other BS reason as to why it never happened. Either way he makes shed loads of money and gets more subscribers. It's all a bluff anyways, he is happy with Nathan making him money fighting cans in Wales and keeping Nathan on the end of that carrott regarding 'fighting the big names....'.

What ever happened to these big names he was going to announce for Nathan? Oh, let me guess, they wanted too much money, they didn't want to travel to Wales, so Nathan has to fight these 'keep busy' fights as 'no one' wants to know. This all sounds so familiar. The only difference is that Cleverly is not anywhere near JC's level.

The Dark Destroyer wrote:You keep saying 'don't get duped', duped by what? Do you think I don't know what you're saying? My argument is that Clev is a better opponent because he holds a title, and is a British fighter which would mean a higher profile fight for a fighter who almost completely lacks any public profile. What is there not to understand about that? Froch is on the last stretch of his career, maximising any earning potential should be a priority, especially when the opponent they're going to fight is Yusef effing Mack. If this was a Kessler fight, Bute rematch or any significant fighter at 168 no-one would be having this conversation, but it isn't, it's a fighter who has seen better days, has never really cut it at the top and is having to come down in weight. How can anyone tell me that's better than a fight against a young, up and coming British world title holder?
The title is pure paper. Undeserving, and means eff all. He was given ( bought ) it. Take away his nationality and nobody on th planet gives him and credibility regarding a possible fight against Carl.
Froch don't need the TOWIE crowd. He is very much respected is boxing circles, here and across the pond. He don't need the Hatton hangers on who ont know a left hook from a fish hook cheering him on.
Mack is as good as Cleverly.
Why should Carl have to gup in weight to fight a, and with all due respect, a complete nobody on the world stage? Take away the British angle and everyone would laugh such a suggestion off, intact most sensible people are laughing it off.

Cleverly is a more interesting fight from a British angle, but his title is about as usueful as the old WBF titles that Warren fighters used to all have.

what about mack coming down in weight to fight froch. Do you not have a comment on that.?
what about froch stating that he would be fighting someone in the top 10 in his division. Instead we get this pathetic match up.

It baffles me that you think this fight is more meaningful than a fight against Clevely.

Mack is IBF #5 at light heavyweight and nothing more than a stay-busy fight for Froch, until he faces Bute now they have decided to trigger the rematch clause.

Matchroom could have sh*t on all the other names they had offered the fight too, by way of a smokescreen for a less-than-expected opponent, but have a bit more class than that.

x2. Very good point about Matchroom. Hope they retain that level of integrity.

He is a three time world champion at 12 stone, and he has no problem making the weight at all plus he has got bigger fish to try down at Super Middleweight as I reckon 2013 he will fight at least 2 out of the following

Lucian Bute (which is the rematch)
Mikkel Kessler (a fight he wants)
Adonis Stephenson
Andre Ward
Kelly Pavlik

As for Nathan Cleverly, come on allegedly chuck him with someone like Beibut Shulmenov, Tavoris Cloud or Jean Pascal so we can see where Cleverly is at Light-Heavy.
He won't do that. Two of them would beat Nathan by a mile.
Yep, and IMO thats how you can tell FW didnt expect the Froch fight to be made... because if you asked about Cleverley vs Pascal he'd sh1t one.

You can warm up for a fight by sparring, rather than facing a punch bag in front of a few thousand people.

I think given Froch's age he hasn't got that many big fights left in him, so I personally see this as a waste of his time. When he could be facing a better opponent (Cleverly) and make more money in the process and give a fight that would interest not just his fans but boxing fans in this country in general.
Sorry, what has Clev done to prove he's a significantly better opponent than Mack? Being handed a belt for being in the right place at the right time while having supportive promotional connections doesn't make you a worthy champion. If Fwank wants Froch to fight Cleverly, make it so it's impossible to avoid. How do you do that? By making Cleverly a relevant and recognised champion. Nathan needs to beat one of the top guys at 175 before he can credibly start calling out the likes of Froch.
Good post.

I'm pretty confident that Allan Green would beat Nathan Cleverly. I would also put money on Mack beating him too.

what purpose would it serve froch to move up in weight and fight cleverly as opposed to staying where he is and fighting arguabley better fighters, rematch with bute, ward, dirrell and if kessler moves back down rematch with him, all these are leaps and bounds ahead of the line than cleverly, dawson moved down for ward would he be willing to do so again for froch?
