Veeraphol Sahaprom v. Tim Austin.

Post by Rover »

The two best bantams of the late 90s and early 2000s. This fight actually looked like it was going to happen when Holyfield-Ruiz was set to happen in China. Of course, that didn't happen.
I think Sahaprom would've knocked Austin out. Tim was badly hurt by the mediocre Aguilar, and he struggled to beat Vargas, a fighter Sahaprom dominated. Austin always could catch Sahaprom like Konadu did, though I think Nana was a harder puncher than Tim.
If it went to the cards, I'd also favor Sahaprom. To put into perspective how good Sahaprom was, he's the only guy to have beaten Nishioka in about 15 years.

Agree with you here - Most likely Sahaprom stops Tim or beats him by clear cut decision. Tim's best shot would be to catch Sahaprom early......

When I visited Veeraphol at his gym in 2001, I asked him if there was anyone he wanted to fight, and he said Tim Austin, preferably in Las Vegas. He was confident he would beat Tim.

Deathmask would've done him, by KO.

Austin was, I thought, ridiculously over-rated at the time.

Deathmask was Veeraphol's nickname, at least according to the Thais I spoke to when I went there a decade ago.
