DANNY WILLIAMS LOSES AGAIN

Post by loaded_gloves »

We can add yet another degrading loss to the increasingly depressing record of Danny Williams. Last night he was outpointed over eight in Finland by something known as 'Janne Katajisto'. Danny has another fight scheduled next month.

It's scary to think what Danny will be like in 10 years time. His wife and kids and anyone who loves him need to stage an intervention.

If you aren't depressed enough yet, then take a look at This. This man is Katajisto. This is the kind of opponent Danny is losing to nowadays.

Really? How did you see the fight?

I have only read the report, no mention of any knockdowns but said Danny was 'wobbled' several times.

Dropping an opponent twice doesn't ensure victory in an 8 round bout.

Sorry should have been more clear. He dropped him twice to the body but they were ruled low blows (which they werent). That was the robbery part.

Hmmm, some weird and wildly varying accounts of what happened in this fight. I'll say this - Manuel Charr's 'stoppage' of Danny was the most crooked refereeing I've seen since the Robin Reid/Sven Ottke horrorshow.

Either way, the Danny who whacked Kali Meehan and Mike Tyson would have decapped this fat blob in one round.

Aint exactly been one to be lucky with referees in his career has he Danny. You have the famous Airich fight where the bell rung early once he had Airich in trouble, he managed to win that despite everything. I also thought the referee in Danny's fight with oleg Platov was attrocious. And above we have the Charr fight and this fight mentioned as having dodgy refereeing.

That fight was prob the biggest farce seen in a ring. The ref gave about 5 counts and deducted points for fun. Ahmet Ohner rung the bell a minute early if I'm not mistaken.

Enzo Maccarinelli vs Shane McPhilbin fight isn't far behind and that fight was in a British ring!

Gainer v Norwood is the only bout that rivals it for weirdness, a 20 count the referee having no idea of the rules...just...crazy stuff

Holy shit, we think refs are bad these days. That is unreal. Low blows, kidney punches, body slams, Jake the snake Roberts style DDT's and a 20 count to top it. The the ref actually held Norwood while Gainer punched him repeatedly in the sack then hit him with a 20 count. Insane.

To be fair though, Katajisto is the current Finnish and Baltic Boxing Union heavyweight champion  He's also Finland's pie eating king.

Both fights had an early ringing of the bell, however Danny Williams had about 3 counts despite not actually being knocked down once during the whole fight. He also had 2 points deducted for the second low blow he commited, and then the next low blow he hit the guy with he got 1 point taken off  I also remember thinking it was odd that the ref would count in Spanish (the ref was Spanish) when he was giving Williams an 8 count and yet counter in English when he gave Airich (who is German) an 8 count.

Last thing on the fight was the commentary by secondsout. I thought it was attrocious. In one of the rounds Williams had a point deducted but knocked Airich down and at the end of the round one of the commentators went 'I dunno how you would score that, Williams had a point deducted but knocked him down so it must be 10-9 to Williams' I was like wtf, it would be 10-8 Williams without the point deduction, so just take 1 point of Williams to make it 9-8 Williams you berk!!! Subtraction isn't exactly something that's held back in the education system until people are at University.

Most fights are ruled on a 10 point must system. 9-8 would become 10-9.

Danny is now a journeyman. Journeymen get robbed.

I swear to god I have seen judges scorecards scored 9-8 or 9-9. You know when there's a ridiculous scorecard and someone posts a picture of the actual scorecard and says 'look at this clowns scorecard how could he think xxxx won round 4 etc.'

But yeah with that being the case it still doesn't make it hard to score a round regardless of how much happens.

Commentators should know enough about the fight to be more convincing and explain why they would score it 10-9 Williams. HBO do sometimes mention it and I think Primetime have ( Jim Rosenthal rings a bell from a while back). But I'm not sure it's in effect in all fights, or maybe some judges are incompetent in this regard. Doesn't really affect anything though, so it's not a problem to score either way.

9-9-where a point has been deducted OR a fight WINS a round despite being knocked down...right?

Then you have 9-8-knock down by fight A (-deduction), etc

Most fights have the ten point must system (where at least one fighter must be giiven a score of ten). It's not a system I like and I much prefer to simply deduct from ten for each fighter per round as the round progresses. Yet another in the list of endless reasons why boxing needs one, unified, international body as the sole issuer of world titles - have a scoring system that is used in all international contests and enforce national bodies to follow suit. Make that one change (unified ICC, FIFA, IRU style body) and boxings reputation would change overnight. Not holding my breath though.................
