Great show i Birmingham last night

Post by safeerah »

Some good fights and good performance's from the local lads, Nasser Al Harbi stopped his opponent in the 3rd round after closing his eye with some big left hooks after hurting him with body shots, Max Maxwell produced a controlled boxing performance in preparation for his big fight in Denmark against former "Contender" Ahmed Kadour. all the fights where well contested and D'animal knocked his opponent out after a very attacking performance, Well done to all the local lads who all did the business in style. The show the first at the old Digbeth Civic Hall ( once the top boxing venue in the country, many years ago ) was a hugh success, packed to the rafters and with a great atmosphere.

Good win for your boy saf, Jenman is one hard bloke and has decent skills. Did you get a chance to see the Langford fight?

Thanks Smoggy, Yes Jenman is a tough strong ,hard hitting fighter with good skills, he had over a hundred Amateur fights and won a siver medal at the junior Olympics as a teen, not quite achieved as much in the pros yet, but only 25, so still got time, he trained hard for nas and was in good shape, we also gave 5 Ibs away. Tommy Langford's fight was just before our fight, did not see it, was doing the pads for Nasser, heard he won well , all the local lads did great, Jon Pegg matched them all well, based on styles , so the fights were competitive.

I thought it was a decent night's boxing, with decent matchmaking. the men in the away corner- and I always say it's the away fighter who makes the fight in small hall shows- mostly did enough to push the home fighters and provide proper tests. the home fighters didn't have too many fights under their belts, and it showed at times, but the atmosphere was excellent, venue great for boxing, and the last 2 home fighters on the card showcased some serious skills.

Tommy Langford has a jab that is a thing of beauty. I could literally watch him do nothing but throw jabs, for round after round after round.

a shame you missed him naj I'll give you the lowdown next time i see you  :TU:

i agree the matchmaking was good. i think there was only one fight I had as 40-36, the away fighter nicked at least a round on all the other completed fights. nice to see the crowd give applause to the away fighters, too, I brought a mate to the boxing for the first time and he commented how the atmosphere was a lot friendlier than he expected, it's good for new people to come to the sport and not think boxing fans are all snarling at the away fighter and yelling insults etc.

Yes every time I got time to watch the action the away fighters were giving it back, pushing the home lads to higher levels, not just covering up and taking punishment, but looking to bring it, would not be suprised if Jon Pegg had offered them a cash incentive for an upset lol.
