Even a victory against some "tomato can" who is effectively paid to lose will reduce the sports credibility even further.

A 35 year old piss pot taking up the sport and winning a pro fight - is this what people in the sport really want to see ?

I am disappointed in Barry McGuigan for being involved, although not entirely surprised - he previously championed the professional boxers association. I guess the potential to earn a few quid overrides his principles once again (just ask "thank you very very much, Mr Eastwood").

It's Barry McGuigan. He'll turn up to anything vaguely boxing related if he's paid.

I do understand the skeptics and I agree Freddie isn't going to go far, but at the risk of being vaguely positive....

The forum is generally negative about boxings ability to crossover to the public, here is a chance to win some new fans. Have a tasty undercard, you'll hook a few in longer term. Many neutrals became more interested in the wider sport having been nurtured in with the likes of contender and prizefighter. The forum stronghold didn't/don't like those either.

It is what it is, I'm aware of the negatives, but we shouldn't exclusively focus on those. I don't have particular interest or any hope in Freddie, but if we get some more fans, even some more posters, I don't think thats such a bad thing.

Sadly, I don't see it. Anybody who would be interested in promoting a cricketer in a main event fight doesn't care about promoting boxing's future as much as making a quick buck out of the sport. The majority who turn in to see this aren't going to care about the undercard, and I doubt the promoters will either.

Boxing being the way it is these days, undercards are rarely outstanding anyway.

if it was that easy everyone would be a boxer mate ?
he might pick it up quickly but we'll see how good he realy is when he takes one on the nose, i hate things like this as it will make non boxing fans think it's a easy sport, i'd love to even sparr with him and just let go to see what he's got, i hope he gets chinned lol

No some people pick it up quicker than others esp natural athletes

Plus he can afford to train twice a day every day of the week.... I had my first am fight within 2 months of walking through a gym door.... Only training 2 hours a week
