Most shocking moments you've experienced while watching a fi

Post by Rover »

The ones that made you say "Jesus Christ!" or something like that.
Mine:
1. When James Miller landed his parachute at Caesar's during the seventh round of Holyfield/Bowe II.
2. When James "The Harlem Hammer" Butler sucker punched Richard Grant on Friday Night Fights in front of a shitload of New York City cops on a card where the proceeds were going to benefit 9/11 victims.
3. The Bowe/Golota I riot.
4. Tyson's ear-biting.
5. When Big George KO'd Moorer; never thought that could happen.
6. During Juan Coggi v. Eder Gonzalez I; I was thinking, "This ref's out of his damned mind."
7. The ending of Chavez/Taylor I.
8. When I heard "and new champion...Timothy 'Desert Storm' Bradley" after the Pacquiao fight.
9. When Margarito was discovered with loaded gloves and then absolutely smashed by Mosley.
10. The 22-second Powell-Bundrage I fight, with a double "knockdown" followed by a Powell bomb that had K9 out.

Haye being announced the winner over Valuev. I've just lost a bet not too long before that in the Dirrell/Froch fight and my hopes weren't too high especially because I felt Haye didn't do anything in the fight to warrant him winning. When he was announced I was more shocked than happy.

Mosley knocking out Margarito.

How easily Ward handled Dawson.

I think I stopped being "shocked" by a decision more than 30 years ago.
I was shocked when Weaver ko's Tate when it looked hopeless for him.

Jorge Castro v John David Jackson. 50 seconds left in the 9th round. The announcers saying the ref is about to stop it with the battered Castro apparently hurt and against the ropes. He lands a big left hook and down goes John David Jackson. Still, IMO, the best comeback KO I've ever seen.

Also, Tyson biting off part of Holyfield's ear and Margarito punching off part of Sebastian Lujan's ear, making him look like a Vulcan.

When Evander came back from the dead to drop Bowe in their third fight while Lampley and Foreman were fearing for his life and begging for the fight to be stopped.

When Bradley got the decision over Pacquiao I was definitely shocked. Not because I haven't seen bad decisions before, but normally the beneficiary of the bad decision is the Marquee fighter. I couldn't imagine that the Cash cow of Top Rank would get robbed like that. Really shocking stuff.

For a moment I was irate when Molina was DQ'ed against James Kirkland, I know a lot of people on this forum were all over Kirkland's nuts and thought the DQ was justifiable, but it absolutely wasn't and Molina was straight up robbed of victory on a BS technicality.

Live, possibly Khan getting bombed out by BP. I sort of had a suspicion it may happen but the arena was just stunned.

On TV, I think Holyfield beating down Tyson in the first fight, you knew he was in for a hard fight when the first bomb Tyson landed just budged him sideways a little. The 2nd fight was also - wtf am I seeing here on TV...just mayhem. I think the funniest bit was watching Horne (?) jump up and down calling Holyfield a little bitch..

Agree re: both Tyson-Holyfield fights. I vividly recall the 6th round when the crowd started chanting for him and getting the sense that he really was going to win, and almost immediately afterwards he decked him. Unforgettable.

Mainly happens when a bull shit decision is announced

Holyfield/Valuev
Bradley/Pacquiao
The Pacquiao/Marquez trilogy
Obscure Rankings (i.e., McNeely being ranked #7 after kayoing an 0-77 guy)
A deadly end to a fight (Page/Crowe, McClellan, etc)
Extreme Mismatches
Biased Referees (This years Olympics was outrageous at best)

The only shocking things about the Pac/JMM trilogy were Marquez's having survived Round 1 in Fight 1 and the incompetence of Clements, who somehow developed the incorrect view that the NSAC didn't want 10-6 rounds scored.

Weaver's 15th round come from behind KO of John Tate still stands out as perhaps the most shocking, "slack jawed" moment of the sport for me, followed closely by Foreman's magnificent KO10 over Moorer.

i was watching that fight with my friends and was so disappointed by how easily pacquiao won (big bradley fan) and by the 11th or 12th round i went outside to have a conversation with my girlfriend (we were actually in a very bad argument) and out of no where come my three friends running outside going "DUDE TIM BRADLEY WON!" and i look at them and go "yeah . . sure he did" (i was assuming they just wanted me to come back inside to do something) and they reply "no dude! seriously! he won! you gotta check it out!" and my girlfriend was not pleased at all (and actually left due to how bad of an argument we were in) but i had to go back and check it out and i go back in to see timothy bradley getting interviewed as the champion and i go "you've got to be effing kidding me". definitely one of the most shocking moments i've experienced in boxing

Same here, I was doing something else by round 10 because it was so one sided
I saw the result on skysports the next morning and thought ........ WTF ... seriously WTF

PS I still think .. WTF!!

I was too suprised by the Bradley decision but I thought the Oscar / Trinidad one was much Worse. Oscar was really putting it on Felix for 9 rounds.
