Andre Ward's Future: In The Past?

Much talk about Ward – so here goes.

First, there is not much history to work with as the SMW division only goes back to the mid-to-late 1980s.

Hence, this example may appear choppy and vague at best (but hopefully folks will cut me some slack as I only have a couple of decades to work with).

(9/8/2012): Olympic gold medalist, top pound-for-pound boxer and Ring Magazine's “Fighter of the Year” Andre Ward and reigning WBC LHW titlist Chad Dawson meet at a 168 lb. catchweight bout for the WBA/WBC SMW titles; Ward becomes the first to stop (TKO 10) Dawson in a lower weight (for Dawson) world title bout.

(6/12/1989): In a rematch, Leonard is then pitted against the recently crowned WBO SMW champion Thomas Hearns; Hearns seemingly dominates the bout but it is controversially scored a ‘draw’ (D 12).

For this to follow a similar path (not that it has to – but just play along):

In a rematch, Ward is then pitted against the recently crowned WBO SMW champion Arthur Abraham; Abraham seemingly dominates the bout but it is controversially scored a ‘draw’ (D 12).

Perhaps, an entirely different scenario will occur – since Abraham loses a lopsided decision (in the first bout with Ward) and Ward has already defeated the IBF SMW title holder Carl Froch.

Maybe, a match with whomever wins (if there is a winner) the Martinez-Chavez Jr. bout; possibly, Martinez (at a catchweight?) may get the match that McCallum could never get (inside joke for “those who know”)…..

P.S.

The million dollar question that many are currently asking: Who (if anyone) will end Ward’s epic long unbeaten streak (that goes back to his amateur days)?

The simple answer: Possibly, his next opponent (although, it may not be official)…..
