Top Rank Card (Martinez vs Chavez)
Re: Top Rank Card
Did the HBO commentary think that the scores were too wide? Some people are already complaining about the scoring...
Re: Top Rank Card
I don't think so. Lederman almost had it a shutout. And why are they complaining? The scoring seems legit to me.crusader wrote:Did the HBO commentary think that the scores were too wide? Some people are already complaining about the scoring...

I don't want to see a rematch based on one good round from Chavez.rmz wrote:A dramatic ending, but it's important to remember that Chavez got outboxed BADLY for 11 rounds. I don't think that a rematch is really necessary. On a side note, I thought Roy did a good job tonight...he really needs to stop boxing and continue commentating. He's a lot better than when he first started.

You can blame Martinez for a rematch. Had he fought smart in the 12th no one would be asking about a rematch. For a second I almost thought Martinez was trying to throw his fight?crusader wrote:I don't want to see a rematch based on one good round from Chavez.rmz wrote:A dramatic ending, but it's important to remember that Chavez got outboxed BADLY for 11 rounds. Re: Top Rank Card
Sounds like we almost had Chavez/Taylor redux.
Re: Top Rank Card
I haven't seen the fight, but I was referring generally to being way behind and needing a last round KO. Chavez hurt Taylor in the last minute and finished him; sounds like that almost happened. The Dark Destroyer wrote:I can see why people would look to that, but Chavez jr was outworked and barely landing, Chavez was landing quite consistently in the second half the fight against Taylor.Rover wrote:Sounds like we almost had Chavez/Taylor redux.
That was my point.

Maidana-Karass was without a doubt the fight of the night.

Re: Top Rank Card
Sort of except Chavez jr not to level of Meldrick Taylor, and Chavez sr. and in the 1990 fight Chavez sr did lots of body work through out the fight building up to the victory Chavez jr had some rounds were he barely punched, Chavez jr has heart and is better than I thought , but the big thing with him is his huge size for Middleweight, how he achieves it is a mystery to me.Rover wrote:I haven't seen the fight, but I was referring generally to being way behind and needing a last round KO. (Though I didn't see the TR card.)
I was so disappointed by Ponce/Gonzalez; I was lusting for that fight.

True with Martinez Chavez the cherry on top.crusader wrote:I agree; every round was exciting.Baby Face Finster wrote:Maidana-Karass was without a doubt the fight of the night.

I didn't think every round of Martinez-Chavez was exciting, although the final round was amazing. Those cheering for Martinez were probably shitting themselves.
